CITY OF DANVILLE SOLID WASTE DIVISION RULES AND REGULATIONS All household waste must be contained in a plastic bag, which when placed out for collection, must be placed in the City of Danville Mobile Refuse Cart (Toter) or a manufacturer approved cart for fullyautomated collection. Refuse cannot be contained in any other type of container (Ordinance 52.05). Items must be set out for collection no later than 7am on your collection day and no earlier than 4pm the night prior to your collection (Ordinance 52.08). Carts must be placed in a location that has at least a two (2) foot clearance, on all sides, from any obstacle or structure including other Toters (Ordinance 52.08). Standard household waste, such as kitchen waste and paper waste that is bagged and contained in the approved Toter, will be collected on your normal weekly service day. NOTE: Standard household waste will only be picked up in an approved Toter. Excess bagged household waste that will not allow the toter to be closed properly must be placed in an additional toter. Additional toters can be purchased by calling 431-2288 or 431-2200 and will be delivered. THE COLLECTIONS BELOW MUST BE SCHEDULED IN ADVANCE BY CALLING 431-2288 NO LESS THAN 2 WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR COLLECTION DAY..Large Item Collections: Large items are items that are larger than the toter and constructed of materials that cannot be broken down and placed in the toter (Ordinance 52.02). A Large Item Collection is a collection of up to three (3) large items. More than three (3) large items are classified as a Minor or Major Cleanup Collection, Depending on the size of the collection. Large Item Collections can be scheduled three (3) times in a calendar year per customer account. Examples are: Small appliances: Dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven Large and small furniture, mattress and box spring and carpeting (1 room or less cut and rolled in lengths less than 4ft. and weigh less than 50 lbs.). NOTE: Once 3 Large Item collections have been scheduled, a $15 fee, per large item, must be paid in advance for any additional collections in that calendar year.
Cleanup Collections: Minor Cleanup Collections are more than three (3) large items and/or multiple bags of items not containing household waste (Ordinance 52.02). The size of the Minor Cleanup Collection shall not exceed dimensions of 5ft wide by 10ft long by 3ft high or other dimensions totaling less than 150 cubic feet. Minor Cleanup Collections can be scheduled one (1) time in a calendar year per customer account. Note: Once 1 Minor Cleanup Collection has been scheduled, a $20 fee must be paid in advance for any additional Minor Cleanup Collections in that calendar year. Major Cleanup Collections are more than three (3) large items and/or multiple bags of items not containing household waste (Ordinance 52.02). The size of the Major Cleanup Collections are those that exceed dimensions of 5ft wide by 10ft long by 3ft high or other dimensions totaling more than 150 cubic feet. Note: Collection of any and all Major Cleanup Collections shall occur only upon the owner or occupant contacting the Public Works Department and paying, no less than two working days in advance, the following fees: 1 st and 2 nd Major Cleanup Collections in the calendar year $ 75.00 each Any subsequent Major Cleanup Collections in the calendar year $200.00 each Special Collections The following items can be scheduled for collection at no additional charge: Washer, Stove, Dryer, Water Heater, Dishwasher, Cast Iron Bathtub, Metal Items (i.e. exercise equipment, shelving). Items with Refrigerant: The items below must be scheduled for collections and require an additional charge of $10.00 per item: Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, Freezers, Dehumidifiers Note: These items are not counted towards the 3 Large Item and 1 Minor Cleanup Collections. The following items will not be taken by the City of Danville: - Vehicle Tires - Railroad ties/landscape timbers - Automobile Parts - Automotive Batteries - Ashes/burnings of any kind - Electronics - Building/Roofing Material (i.e. lumber, drywall, siding, shingles) Please Note: Small amounts of lumber and drywall may be taken only if broken down or cut up and placed in the toter. YARD WASTE COLLECTIONS The Yard Waste collection program begins in spring, lasts until December and has three (3) specific time periods: Spring Cleanup (weekly pickup) April 2, 2018 April 28, 2018 (bags and toters) April 30, 2018 June 1, 2018 (toters only) Toter Only Collection (bi-weekly pickup) June 4, 2018 September 28, 2018 Fall Cleanup (weekly pickup) October 1, 2018 December 7, 2018 During the Toter Only Collection period, yard waste is collected the same day as your regular household pickup. Each day is divided into 2 zones, A and B, which are collected on alternate weeks. Yard Waste should be set out following the same guidelines as household waste. Maps showing your zone are available at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, the Public Works Facility, or our website (www.danvillepublicworks.org). From April 30th until September 28th all yard waste will only be picked up in City approved toters with a current yard waste sticker attached. Toters may also be used during the spring and Fall Collection periods. During the Toter Only Collection period from June 4th to September 28th yard waste will be collected as follows: ZONE A will be picked up beginning the week of June 4th and ZONE B the week of June 11th. ZONE A and B will then alternate weeks until the end of the Toter Only Collection period on September 28th. Bags may only be used during the spring and Fall Collection periods, which fall outside of the Toter Only Collection period. The Spring Collection will be approximately 4 weeks starting in April and the fall will be approximately 10 weeks starting in October. Toters may be used during all three collection periods. Yard waste stickers are $40 each and are sold at the Danville Public Works Facility, 1155 E. Voorhees St. and at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building, 17 W. Main St. during normal business hours. Stickers are good for one calendar year. All yard waste must be contained in one of the following ways: City approved toter (up to 100 gallon capacity), with current yard waste sticker and no more than 200lbs. of yard waste material. During the spring and Fall Collection periods, residents may use any approved paper yard waste bags. Yard Waste bags are available at various retail outlets, pricing set by stores. NO tape or adhesive permitted on Yard waste bags, just fold and /or roll down the top of the bags. Please note: bags are not allowed between April 30th and September 28th.
Yard waste contained in plastic bags or boxes WILL NOT be collected. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE CONSIDERED YARD WASTE: Grass, Leaves, Shrubbery Trimmings, Garden Waste (no food products), Brush. All items (including brush) must be placed in the toter between April 30th and September 28th. Brush placed by the toter during the spring and Fall Cleanup periods should be bundled, tied with cotton twine or string, no larger than 3 inches in diameter and less than 4 feet long. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED WITH YARD WASTE: Stumps, Landscape Timbers, Railroad Ties, Dirt, Gravel, Rock, Straw, Hay Bales, Pumpkins, and Christmas Trees that are contaminated with flocking, tinsel, etc. (Straw, Hay, Pumpkins, and Contaminated Christmas Trees may be placed with household waste). YARD WASTE PRODUCTS: The City sells (for pick up or delivery) the following products processed at our Yard Waste Recycling Facility (prices subject to change). Compost - $25 per yard - (up to 5 yards delivered) Mulch - $25 per yard - (up to 5 yards delivered) The City charges $30.00 for delivery inside City limits and up to a 5 mile radius of the City. The City Yard Waste Facility is located one mile east of Bowman Ave. and E. Liberty Ln. at the intersection of County Rd. 2100N and 1900E. Yard Waste Site Hours: Monday thru Thursday: Closed to the Public: 7:30AM-Noon, 1:00PM-3:30PM Friday - Sunday Customers with a current 2018 Yard Waste Sticker may drop off yard waste at the Yard Waste Facility at no additional charge. Yard Waste Sticker customers must stop at 1155 E. Voorhees, Danville, IL to obtain a ticket for dropping off at the yard waste site.
