HYDRAULIC TUNNEL THRUSTER Hydrostatic transmission provides proportional propeller speed control in both directions, thereby eliminating the need for controllable pitch propellers.

LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES For over 30 years, Thrustmaster of Texas has been designing, manufacturing and supporting marine propulsion systems for a global network of customers and continues to be the largest manufacturer of marine thrusters in the U.S. Thrustmaster s propulsion units are manufactured in Houston, TX with a variety of configurations including self-contained and portable deck-mounted propulsion units, thru-hull azimuthing thrusters, Z-drives, water jets, retractable thrusters and tunnel thrusters in power ranges from 35 to 10,740 hp ( 22 kw to 8 MW ). Special expertise has been developed in designing and manufacturing equipment for maneuvering, navigating and dynamic positioning of slow-speed marine craft and barges. Thrustmaster pioneered the development of a hydraulic tunnel thruster and we made sure to perfect one major advantage - their flexibility.

HYDRAULIC TUNNEL THRUSTER Each hydraulic tunnel thruster is available in steel for steel hulls or in aluminum for aluminum hulls and comes as a complete package, with a short tunnel assembly and a four-blade, high-thrust propeller on a large diameter shaft. The shaft is directly driven by Thrustmaster s exclusive hydraulic propulsion motor. The motor is housed inside the dry pod of the thruster. The steel thruster uses a steel tunnel and bearing housing, an Aquamet propeller shaft, 316 stainless steel seal housing, manganese bronze or Ni- BrAl propeller, and stainless steel hardware. Steel parts are provided with a marine coating (Ameron polyurethane over epoxy on inorganic zinc primer), and the inside of the tunnel is provided with a ceramic coating for extreme corrosion and erosion protection. The aluminum thruster uses a tunnel assembly, strut, pod and bearing housing of marine grade aluminum. The hydraulic tunnel thruster s prime mover is not restricted to being located next to the thruster like traditional tunnel thrusters but can be placed anywhere on the vessel - such as an existing machinery space. Thrustmaster pioneered the development of a reliable and efficient hydraulic tunnel thruster over 30 years ago and we made sure to perfect one major advantage - their flexibility. This flexibility is achieved by a hydraulic pipe or tubing that can be run from the prime mover to the thruster.

features FEATURE The hydraulic drive train can instantly relieve any transmission overloads making the tunnel thruster extremely resilient and durable. Foreign objects ingested by the tunnel will not damage the hydraulic drive train as the hydraulic system instantly relieves any transmission overloads. Allows easy configuration to suit any size vessel, with freedom to place modules wherever space is available. BENEFIT FEATURE Thrusters use podded design concept. Propeller shaft is directly driven by hydraulic motor in the foot (or pod) of the thruster. High propulsion efficiency, no gear losses. Reliable due to its simplicity & limited number of moving parts. Lateral & torsional critical speeds are far above operating speeds. Runs smooth, no vibration. BENEFIT FEATURE Tunnel Thrusters include a variable-flow hydrostatic drive system. Allows for infinite propeller speed control in port and starboard direction leading to perfect vessel station-keeping response as well as instant thrust BENEFIT FEATURE Each tunnel is provided with a ceramic coating. Provides extreme corrosion and erosion protecting even in the harshest operating environments. BENEFIT FEATURE Eliminates need for costly controllable pitch propellers systems. Fully proportional speed control gives performance similar to a controllable pitch propeller without the cost, complexity, fragility or maintenance problems. BENEFIT FEATURE Options available for hydraulic tunnel thrusters with steel or aluminum housing. The entire product range of tunnel thrusters is customized for suitable placement on steel vessel hulls or aluminum vessel hulls depending on the application. BENEFIT

EFFICIENT & RELIABLE PRIME MOVER HYDRAULIC LINE Thrustmaster s hydraulic drive is simple, quiet, efficient and extremely smooth. The prime mover can be a non-reversible electric motor or a diesel engine running at a constant speed because the hydraulic transmission controls propeller speed and direction of rotation. The prime mover drives a hydraulic pump. The propeller is driven by a hydraulic motor. In between are fluid conductors. There are no drive shafts, gears, bearings, or other mechanical components to fail. The hydraulics are virtually maintenance free and provide years of reliable operation while performing in the harshest marine environments. HYDRAULIC DRIVE The hydraulic drive is extremely resistant to damage. Foreign objects ingested by the tunnel will not damage the hydraulic drive train as the hydraulic system instantly relieves any transmission overloads. The variable-flow hydrostatic drive system allows for infinite propeller speed control in port and starboard direction. Whether in manual mode or DP mode hydraulic thrusters allow perfect vessel station-keeping as well as instant thrust response. Full thrust can be reversed within three to five seconds. This instantaneous and fully proportional speed control gives performance similar to a controllable pitch propeller (or CPP) without the cost, complexity, fragility or maintenance problems of the intricate CPP control system with all its drive shafts, levers and feedback mechanisms.
