Introduction Congratulations... we welcome you as a new American Crescent Elevator customer. Your new ELEVATOR will provide you with the convenience, independence, and luxury you deserve. More importantly, you can count on dependable, trouble-free operation. As with all mechanical equipment, however, proper operation and periodic maintenance is required. This manual has been prepared to provide clear, concise operating and maintenance information. We ask that you read and follow the important guidelines outlined before you attempt to operate your unit. IMPORTANT If you do require service, only your authorized American Crescent Elevator Distributor has been factory trained with the proper equipment and genuine American Crescent Elevator replacement parts needed to accurately repair your elevator. They are skilled to provide you the finest quality service. Whether it's Sales, Service, or Installation... American Crescent Elevator Makes The Difference. Familiarize yourself with the location and function of all controls before using your ELEVATOR. Description 1. In Car Control Station Optional Key Switch. If equipped, the key switch, in the OFF position limits the use of the elevator to authorized persons. When in the ON position, the landing buttons are operable. (See Figure A). 2. Floor Selection Buttons. The button controls are located for easy reach. They control UP and DOWN movement of the cab. Depressing the desired button moves the cab to that landing. The cab will automatically stop when the cab reaches the landing. (Some cabs are equipped with constant pressure buttons. The cab will stop any time the button is released.) (See Figure A). 1
3. Light Switch. The light switch turns the cab's lights ON and OFF. (Some cabs are equipped with a timer to automatically turn the light ON when the hoistway door is opened or OFF when inactive). (See Figure A). 4. Emergency Stop Button. This button when depressed will automatically stop the cab and sound the alarm in the event of an emergency. Button must be reset to reactivate control usage. (See Figure A). 5. Emergency Alarm Button. This button when depressed will automatically sound the alarm. (See Figure A). 6. Handrail. A single handrail is mounted to the cab wall. (See Figure A). In Car Station (Figure A) 7. Landing Controls. Control buttons are installed at all landings to move the cab to the landing from which you are calling. The call button will flash if one of the landing doors or car gate has been left open. The cab will NOT move until all doors and car gates are closed. If equipped with a key switch, turn the key to the ON position before pressing the call button. (See Figure B). 2
Landing Control (Figure B) 8. Hoistway Door Interlock. An interlock is provided for each hoistway door. This prevents movement of the cab unless the doors are closed and locked. (See Figure C.) 9. Emergency Door Release. A special key enables the door's release from the outside in case of power failure. Doors should only be opened when the cab is at that particular landing. (See Figure C.)! Warning Always make sure the elevator is at the proper floor level before the door is opened. 3
Hoistway Door Interlock (Figure C) 10. Telephone. A telephone is provided for your convenience. On some units the phone is mounted inside a cabinet. (See Figure A). 11. Battery Operated Light and Alarm. Light is activated in case of a 110-volt power failure. Alarm also remains activated. Operating Instructions Operating the Elevator from the Landing Controls. 1. To call the cab to the desired level, Press The CALL Button. (If equipped with a key, insert key into the call control and turn to the ON position). The cab will automatically stop when it reaches your landing. (Some units are equipped with constant pressure buttons. You must maintain constant pressure on the button until the cab automatically stops at your landing. Releasing the button will stop the cab at any point. On all of our models, if the cab has entered the leveling zone, and you release the button the unit will continue to move until it reaches the landing.) 4
2. After the cab stops at the landing, (if equipped with a key, turn key to OFF position. Remove key). Turn door handle and pull door open. Slide the gate open and enter the cab. Once inside the cab, close gate. If using a Wheelchair, lock wheels at this time. Wheelchair wheels must be locked at all times during cab movement. Operating the Elevator from the "In Car" Station. 1. Depress appropriate button to send the cab to the desired landing. (If equipped with a key, insert key into receptacle and turn it to the ON position). Cab will automatically stop when it reaches the landing. (Some units are equipped with constant pressure buttons. You must maintain constant pressure on the button until the cab automatically stops at the landing. Releasing the button will stop the cab at any point. On all of our models, if the cab has entered the leveling zone, and you release the button the unit will continue to move until it reaches the landing.) 2. If equipped with a key, turn key to the OFF position. Remove the key and exit the cab. NOTE: Gate must be closed after exiting cab. If not, all controls will remain inoperable.! Warning The following operating notes must be observed at all times. Limit capacity to weight stated on cab. Never bypass any control buttons or sensors. Freight is prohibited. Never use elevator when smoke or fire is present. Do not attempt to enter or exit the cab without being sure the cab is at proper floor level. 5
General Specifications Car: The standard car shall be constructed of medium desity fiber board covered with plastic laminate The car platform shall be constructed of 2" plywood. Car lighting will consist of two (2) recessed ceiling lights operated on a separate 110-volt circuit. Each open side of car shall be equipped with a car gate or automatic door. All cars shall be equipped with an instantaneous broken cable device. Machine: 6
Guide Rails: Two steel members with smooth splices located on one side of the Hoistway to accurately guide the car. They shall be secured to the Hoistway wall by suitable brackets and hardware. Operation: Operation shall be by push buttons. A call station shall be furnished for each entrance. A push button station in the car shall have one button for each level served. Car station shall also contain an emergency stop switch, alarm button and light switch. An alarm bell shall be furnished on top of the car. Door Interlocks: A hoistway door interlock shall be furnished for each hoistway entrance. Interlock shall prevent operation unless doors are closed and prevent opening of door when car is not at that landing. Troubleshooting Guide Before you call your authorized local distributor for service, refer to the following checklist. This may prevent an unnecessary service call. If Unit Will Not Operate: Check that all hoistway doors and car doors are completely closed. If equipped with a key, make sure key is TURNED to the ON position. Check that the main line disconnect switch is turned on inside machine room. Check that emergency stop/alarm switch is pulled out. 7
Maintenance As with all mechanical equipment, proper operation and periodic maintenance is essential in keeping your elevator in its proper operating condition. It is your responsibility, as the owner of this unit, to make sure maintenance and upkeep is performed on a regularly scheduled basis. If you do require service, only your "Authorized American Crescent Elevator Distributor" is factory trained to do the job properly. They are skilled professionals supplied with the proper equipment and genuine American Crescent Elevator replacement parts needed to accurately repair your equipment. We recommend preventative maintenance on this equipment every 6-12 months. However, if located in high traffic areas, this unit should be maintained every 3-6 months. American Crescent Elevator's Warranty Policy The customer warranty of a American Crescent Elevator's Elevator is as follows: The American Crescent Elevator Mfg. Corp. (the "Company") warrants to the original consumer purchaser of a American Crescent Elevator elevator that the Company will repair or exchange, at its option, any part of the elevator that fails, by reason of defective American Crescent Elevator material or workmanship, within one (1) year from the date of purchase.* This warranty does not cover: Special Provisions Labor and service charges incurred in the removal and replacement of any parts covered by this warranty. It is understood that the labor and service charges incurred in removal and replacement of parts may be covered for a certain period of time by the installer and mutually agreed upon by the owner of the elevator. Damage to parts caused by accident, improper storage or handling or misuse: the Company's obligation under this warranty is strictly and exclusively limited to the repair or exchange of parts that so failed within the applicable warranty period, and the Company assumes no responsibility for any other expenses or damages, including incidental and consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. No person or company is authorized to change or extend the terms of this warranty in any manner. To obtain warranty service you must promptly notify the American Crescent Elevator distributor from whom the elevator was purchased. This notice must be given within the warranty period. NOTE: Any alterations to the equipment without written authorization by the American Crescent Elevator Mfg., Corp. will void the warranty. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. *This warranty does not apply to light bulbs, oil seals, car panels or batteries. 9
