DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES Improvements in simulation tools and computing power have meant that digital validation has become increasingly important in vehicle development in recent years. Simulation that supports the development process will help to achieve the aim of cutting costs and reducing development time by eliminating development phases that require physical testing. In many areas, for example passive safety, aerodynamics or ride comfort, the early development phases are decisively influenced by simulation results. With our passion for virtually driven development, we ensure that functional objectives are reliably achieved. Michael Hage, Head of Vehicle Body Body-in-White/Exterior/Interior and CAE

Body crash structure Occupant Protection Occupant Protection/ Interior Modules Crash Management System/Pedestrian Safety Structural Add-On parts Stiffness/Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) Computational Fluid Dynamics A vehicle s body structure plays a vital role in fulfilling the requirements of legislators, consumer tests and insurance companies. We perform CAE simulations with a high energy input, evaluate the results and propose modifications to improve structural crashworthiness. Various components in the vehicle interior contribute to the safety of the occupants. We take care of the functional design and integration of individual components and their effective interaction to guarantee optimum protection in frontal and side-impact collisions. Interior modules have to meet various functional demands. These include requirements relating to vehicle safety, stiffness, strength, durability and comfort. In the development process, you define your objectives and we design the components and modules accordingly. Functional design always takes place in close consultation with the development departments involved, such as Design and Testing. Front-end and rear-end structures not only have to meet legislative requirements, they also need to be repair-friendly after a crash. We take care of the design and configuration of all components relevant to pedestrian safety. Structural add-on parts such as the bonnet, doors and boot lid have to fulfil various functional requirements. We design the individual components for you, taking into account all the necessary constraints. Comfort requirements in vehicles are constantly increasing. Components such as the body structure, powertrain and chassis have to be designed in such a way that they take into account the local and global, static and dynamic stiffness requirements. Fluid dynamics influences the correct functioning and energy consumption of powertrain components, cooling components and other vehicle components involved.
