VPA Series and VAP Actuator PN6 Flanged Pressure Independent Balancing and Control Valve Product Bulletin PB_VPA_06 204 VPA Pressure Independent Control Valve is a combination of a differential pressure regulator and a regulating valve for flow adjustment. VPA Valves offer a remarkable adjustment flexibility. In combination with VAP actuators they can be set to a specific flow rate value and they allow precise modulating control. The valves always guarantee a suitable flow rate, therefore avoiding too high energy consumption. Since VPA Valve performs the functions of two valves (balancing and adjustment), the installation costs are considerably reduced. The automatic flow rate limitation eliminates system adjustment costs. Since adjustment is very easy to perform, design flow rates can be modified at any time and at low costs. Pressure Independent Balancing and Control Valve includes two functional control elements: Dynamic Balancing Valve and Motorized Actuator. Dynamic Balancing Valve sense and control the pressure/ flow. The max. flow of VPA valve could be set according to the requirement. The flow can be set easily by the actuator potentiometer. The built-in balancing tube has more compact structure and can avoid damages during shipping and installation compared to the external tube. Valve body is made of ductile iron material, with anticorrosion treatment on the surface. High close-off pressure with very low leakage rate. Linear actuator with high control accuracy provides the equal percentage flow curve. Actuator has manual function that allows for manual positioning of the valve.
Operating Principle The VPA Valve is made by the following main parts: pressure tap valve body valve seat flow-guiding hole differential pressure regulator The VPA consists in two valves. The upper part is a "push down to close" control valve driven by an electrical proportional actuator and the lower part is differential pressure self-control valve. The lower part stabilizes the differential pressure of upper part, to keep flow constant, no matter how the differential pressure of P-P3 fluctuates. Valve flow Adjustment The Maximum value of the flow can be preset using the potentiometer on the actuator. (See PCB Diagrams). Maximum opening Change the max. valve position between 30%-00% by adjusting the potentiometer arrow. Factory setting 00%. 60 70 50 40 30 80 00 90 2
Installation and Maintenance Use Conditions The valve has to be mounted with the arrow in the direction of the flow. Mounting it in the wrong direction may damage the system and the valve itself. If flow reversal is possible, a non-return valve should be mounted. 3
Operating Control It is necessary to be sure that the valve is actually working in the operating range. In order to verify it, just measure the differential pressure across the valve, as shown in the picture below. If the measured differential pressure is inside at the ΔP Range (see Technical Specifications), the valve is actually keeping the flow stable at the set value. Dynamic Characteristic Curves Using a differential pressure gauge to measure the pressure drop the valve absorbs, allows to check whether the valve is in the operating range (and, therefore, whether there actually is a flow control) by simply verifying that the measured value P - P3 is higher than the start-up value. If the ΔP measured value is lower than the start-up value, then the valve works as a fixed orifice valve. Maintenance procedure:. Shut down the pump of system. 2. Close the shut-off valve, discharge the water to reduce the pressure in pipe. 3. Remove the wiring of actuator. Maintenance and Cleaning During valve cleaning operations, use a damp cloth. DO NOT use any detergent or chemical product that may seriously damage or compromise the proper functioning and the reliability of the valve. 4

VAP Actuator The VAP actuators have been specifically designed to drive the VPA pressure independent valve. They provide 000N or 3000N according with the valve dimensions. The actuators are used to control the valve and to set the maximum desired flow. In the VAP3000-24-C model, a display gives several function informations. Turn on the power switch, autocalibration starts automatically. 2. Running light (RUN) flickers (frequency Hz. Actuator stem extends until down limit position, then retracts to up limit position. This moment, actuator can not be controlled by control signal). 3. Running light (RUN) stops flickering after appr. 3 minutes when autocalibration finish. Now actuator matches the stroke of the valve body. Actuator can be controlled by control signal. 7
