Carbide Burr Usage Guidelines CARBIDE BURRS Carbide Burr Usage & Safety Guidelines Note: This is a guideline only, workers should follow all safety guidelines and safety standards on the jobsite as provided by the employer. are used at extreme speeds please follow guidelines to help reduce user error and Burr fatigue. 2 Pressure Avoid using so much pressure the grinder speed is reduced this will cause overheating and chipping of flutes reducing the life of your Burr causing possible breakage Let the burr do the work and apply only a little pressure Initial contact with the work surface should be light to allow the Burr to break-in Do not tap or Chatter the Burr to the workpiece this will cause chipping of flutes or damage to brazing or breakage of the head For long shank Burrs, make sure the Burr is engaged to the workpiece before spinning to avoid bending the shank Movement & Contact Do not Drop the Burr or the grinder with the Burr inserted this can cause damage to the carbide causing breakage when applied to workpiece Carbide Burr s should be stored safely from impact keep in plastic original container when not in use Constant movement over the work surface should be maintained this will keep the Burr from digging and jabbing into the material causing the Burr to catch and break Do Not wedge or jam the Burr into the workpiece this will cause breakage or Chipping Maximize the area of contact with the workpiece to improve finish Avoid contact between the workpiece and the shank of the Burr this can cause tool to overheat and weaken or even destroy the brazed joint Speeds & Overheating Free run the burr every few minutes to allow the Burr to remain at a cooler temperature to avoid overheating Maintain a High speed for efficient and economical use of a Carbide Burr at high speeds there is less tendency for chips to build in the flute, also the Burr will cut more freely in corners and pockets, and reduce the chances of jamming, bouncing or wedging.

CARBIDE BURR SAFETY SUMMARY Safety Summary Integrity Industrial Supply s are made to the strictest standards and specifications and are designed to provide superior work performance and safe operation if used correctly. Warning: Failure to observe safety precautions may result in tool breakage and or injury Follow safety guidelines and safety standards as provided by employer -wear proper safety equipment such as face shield, hand protection, hearing protection and lung protection Ensure proper storage of Carbide Burr between usages by using original plastic container Do not use a dull burr this can cause operator to apply more pressure causing damage to Burr, operator fatigue and damage to workpiece Ensure burr shank is properly inserted into collet and clamped down tightly Ensure work piece is secured tightly and does not move Do not snag or jam your burr into the workpiece No excessive force Avoid contacting shank to workpiece DO NOT drop Burr or Grinder with the Burr in Collet Do not use a Burr with a bent shank Do not tap or chatter the burr on the workpiece Ensure Maximum power and RPM 3 Please see troubleshooting chart on the following page.

CUTTING TOOLS DOUBLE CUT Standard Double Cut Burrs are the most common and offer very efficient stock removal. Double Cut burrs create small chips, good finish and excellent operator control. SINGLE CUT A general purpose burr designed for cast iron, copper, brass and other ferrous materials. It will give good material removal and nice work piece finishes. Single cut burrs produce long chips FAST MILL CUT Fast Mill cut burrs are for use on non-ferrous and non-metallic materials. It is designed for rapid stock removal with minimum chip loading. Designed for use on aluminum, non-ferrous metals, soft steel, reinforced plastics, and other soft materials. The flutes are designed with a hig finish for easy chip flow and fast stock remova They also provide excellent work finish wit minimum loading when cutting soft, sticky metal. 6 Burr Speed Recommendation The chart below is a general recommendation.
