escription: Since packing lubrication is vital to pump performance, an automatic plunger greasing system is available as an option from MSI. The greasing system consists of a Lincoln QuickLub model 203 entralized Lubrication Pump. It is designed for the automatic lubrication of the pump packing and plunger. The system uses a dual timer for adjustment of time on and time off. This unit is designed for ease of installation and reliable operation to keep your MSI pump running smoothly. dvantages in using a greasing system instead of an oiling system: Reliable lubrication to each plunger. The positive displacement pump provides each plunger with equal amounts of grease. In an oiling system the oil will flow to the area of least resistance resulting in unequal lubrication of plunger packing. The system is compact and lightweight. asily installed using the engines 12 or 24 volt system. High efficiency lubrication increases life of pump packing. Inexpensive. Installation: When mounting the system, you must support the pump by using the two large bolts sticking through the back of the fiberglass enclosure. dditionally, four bolts must be used through the mounting tabs on the enclosure. The system requires 12 volt or 24 volt power for operation. To simplify installation the positive and negative input terminals are marked in the container. The installer should provide an in line 6.5 amp fuse for use with a 12 volt system, or a 3 amp fuse for use with a 24 volt system. The grease pump as wired is a closed circuit. The pump will run as long as power is supplied. Therefore it is recommended that it not be wired directly to the battery, unless it is wired with a cutoff switch. Please see the wiring schematic and grease system drawings below for further information. Operation: Startup is a critical time for plunger packing and lubrication should flow freely to the plunger prior to stroking the pump. *Stroking dry plungers can cause the header ring and packing to tear and fail*. efore operation it is necessary to pre fill or prime the grease lines and packing nut with grease, there are grease fittings on the pump s pressure relief valves for this purpose. Upon initial installation and after each packing change the user should pump grease into these fittings until resistance is felt to ensure lines are primed. 11/12/07 1 Revision 0

On the pump housing there is grease fitting used for filling the reservoir. It is recommended that this grease fitting be used to help avoid getting pump damaging contaminants in the system. The top of the reservoir may be removed and grease spooned in from the top, however this is NOT recommended. TTNTION! are should be taken to avoid overfilling the grease reservoir. xceeding the max filling mark can lead to risk of burst or pump failure. UTION! When refilling grease from the top, the power supply must be switched off. Too much grease can overpressure the gland and rupture seals leading to packing contamination. Not enough grease causes excessive friction in the packing and elastomeric seals which may overheat and fail. MSI recommends an ON time of 1 minute and an O time of 3.5 to 4 minutes for all its well service pumps under normal operating conditions. This will result in 0.513in 3 (8.4cm 3 ) of grease being supplied every 4.5 5 minutes of well service pump operation equating to 0.103in 3 (1.69cm 3 ) per minute. The grease per plunger volume will be 0.034 in 3 (0.56cm 3 ) per minute with the triplex and 0.021 in 3 (0.34 cm 3 ) per minute with the quintuplex. There is a red start button on the cabinet exterior. When the button is pressed grease is immediately pumped and the timer resets to the beginning of the on cycle. Note: pplications involving extreme temperatures or high pump speeds may require adjustment of ON and/or O times. Qualified personnel should determine the proper rates as conditions dictate. onsult MSI for special lubricants or technical assistance. the grease line at the packing nut check valve and cycle the pump. You should see a small amount of grease being pushed out. If you do not see the grease, the line is plugged and must be cleared or replaced. If the line is clear, you are applying too much grease. Try decreasing the ON time or increasing the O time. The ON time should not be less than one half minute. Maintenance: The maintenance of the grease pump is essentially limited to refilling the pump reservoir with clean lubricant. The whole unit should be checked periodically to ensure safe and efficient operation.
