2 CIVIL PRODUCTS ABOUT USC 3 ABOUT USC The United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Russia s largest shipbuilding holding, was established in 2007, integrating the shipbuilding state owned yards in Russia to meet the needs of domestic and foreign customers in hi-tech and competitive pro ducts. It is 100 percent state owned. The Corporation includes more than 40 design offices, special R&D facilities, shipyards, ship repair and engineering facilities, accounting for 80 percent of the industry in Russia. USC s facilities spreading from Kaliningrad to Khabarovsk and from Severodvinsk to Astrakhan employ more than 80,000 people. It also owns Arctech Helsinki Shipyard in Finland. Although Russia is the primary market for USC, it also exports its products to 20 countries around the world. 80 % RUSSIAN SHIPS AND VESSELS ARE DESIGNED, BUILT AND REPAIRED THROUGH THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF MORE THAN 40 DESIGN BUREAUS, SHIPYARDS, SHIP REPAIR AND MACHINE-BUILDING FACILITIES AFFILIATED WITH THE HOLDING One of the Corporation s key areas is production of commercial vessels and maritime equipment for offshore development, oil and gas offshore hubs, and navigation along the Northern Sea Route. It includes production of sophisticated ice class vessels, icebreakers, offshore gear capable of operations on the Arctic and Far East Shelves, and in the Caspian region, as well as construction of tankers, large and medium fishing vessels, and passenger ships. TO PROVIDE A CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN HARDWARE AND GEAR FOR SHIPS AND VESSELS, USC PERFORMS HUNDREDS OF R&D ANNUALLY ALTHOUGH RUSSIA IS THE PRIMARY MARKET FOR USC, IT ALSO EXPORTS ITS PRODUCTS TO 20 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD The Corporation and its subsidiary enterprises cater for 95 percent of the needs for special equipment and its maintenance in Russia s Navy, as well as abroad. To provide a constant development of modern hardware and gear for ships and vessels, USC performs hundreds of R&D annually with 90 percent of them in the interest of the Ministry of Defense and 10 percent in the interest of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Russia. In concerted efforts with enterprises of the cooperation and in pursuance of the import substitution initiative it develops new power plants and propulsion systems, diesel-generating equipment, conversion units, pumps, integrated communications, sonar, navigation systems, etc. USC s success in meeting state defense and Russia s commercial fleet needs results directly from its advances in innovative development and training qualified labor for shipbuilding facilities.
