After retiring from a successful career in real estate at the age of 30, Don Aronow moved to South Florida and spent the rest of his life using his creative energy to pioneer performance boating. Aronow's driving determination fueled one of the most exciting decades in boating history. Don was personally responsible for such great names as Donzi, Magnum, Formula, Cigarette, Aronow Powerboats and Squadron X. Boats designed and manufactured by Don Aronow have won over 350 nternational races, World Championships, and still holds at least 25 world speed records. Why the Donzi name? Morris Levy, head of Roulette Records in New York and a close family friend, joked with Don apout being cited in Esquire Magazine for a classy interior design with the Formula 23 foot. The implication was that it was not the most macho of honors. Levy said, "Geez Donnie, guess we'll have to start calling you "Donsy". So "Donsy" became "DONZ MARNE" shortly after FORMULA MARNE was sold. t was in November 1964 Miami-Key West race that the new Donzis exploded onto the offshore racing circuit. The "Donzi Doozy" a 28 footer powered with twin 427 interceptors, ran second overall in the 6 to 8 foot seas. The Donzi Racing Team became known as those "Damned Donzis". The production facilities of the little shop on!88th street was being tested to the max. Orders for Donzi 16s, 19s and 28s began flying in from all around the world. The 16 foot Donzi had become known as the "Jaguar of Sport Boats" appearing at the 1965 New York Boat Show. n the '70s Donzi was handed over to Teleflex Steering and then the owner of Teleflex sold the company to his two sons, the Chisholm brothers. n the early '80s Dick Genth and his crew took the helm and built the popular Regazza Series. OMC bought the company in 1989 and gave their best shot at selling the ultimate boat. American Marine Holdings, one of the most predominant forces in the marine industry, acquired Donzi Marine from OMC in October of 1993. The LXC Series was debuted in 1994 in 25, 27 & 32' sizes. Offering the Donzi heritage, handling and speed, the Cruisers also gave families the right boat for their needs with luxurious cabins and amenities.. The all new ZX line was introduced in August of 1994. Like its predecessors, the 22, 25, 27, 33 and 38 immediately became a success. 1997 saw the innovative Z-Tech ventilated hull design debuted on the ZX line and instant success came with greater speed and better handling. The design was carried over to other select models. Also in 1997, the 235 Sport Deck received rave reviews at the New York Show. A first for Donzi, the deck boat has become a popular model for families looking to enjoy the waters with plenty of room for any activity. GENERAL FEATURES & BENEFTS DONZ- Fully integrated "n-house" designjtoolinglmanufacturing means fresh, innovative models and styling. Donzi uses 20 to 25 mils of premium polyester gelcoat for high gloss retention and long-lasting, beautiful finishes. All Donzis are hand-laid with knitted fiberglass for maximum strength and durability. Only hi-tech biaxial and triaxial fiberglass is used in the Jay up of Donzi boats for maximum strength. Resulting in strong, lightweight performance boats. All stringers and transoms are installed while the part is still in the mold for perfect alignment and fit. Donzi laminates backing material into every hull and deck where hardware will be installed. On Classics and ZX models, Donzi uses marine-grade wood backing. On LXR, LXC and ZF models, only high density foam coring is used. Thil> adds backing support to au lhru-bolled hardware and prevents screws from loosening by giving them sornedting to bite into. Donzi fuel tanks are manufactured using only the highest quality materials. Donzi fuel tanks are tested three times before the boat can leave the plant, which ensures years of trouble-free service. Donzi's hull and deck are joined together using polyurethane sealant and epoxy coated stainless fasteners. The seam is then filled with polyurethane sealant to prevent leakage. All Donzi parts are allowed to completely cure in the molds to prevent any distortion. This takes time and costs money but excellence is expected from Donzi. All screws are pre-drilled and filled with marine silicone to ensure a proper seal and to prevent the fasteners from loosening. All Donzi wiring is color-coded, heavy gauge wiring that meets or exceeds USCG, NMMA & ABYC requirements. Necessary wiring connections in the engine compartment are sealed with heat shrink tubing to permanently protect the connections from the elements. Donzi always takes the extra step to ensure years of troublefree service. Donzi engine mounts are thru-bolted to the stringers for rigid mounting ensuring optimum performance and longevity. Donzi cockpit upholstery is a heavy duty, stain-resistant U.V. protected vinyl and all canvas is 5 year warranted Sunbrella fabric ensuring years of good looks and use. All Donzi hulls are designed with award-winning, deep vees to give the customer better overall performance. All Donzis come standard with a 5 year ttansferable warranty, which makes Donzi one of the best! backed boats in the marine industry. The Donzi Design Team came up with the idea of combining a contemporary styled exterior, with a highly functional interior, utilizing state-of-the-art construction, delivering a boat that is timeless, with many of the options built in as standards. All Donzi LXR, LXC and ZF models utilize a "Perma-Grid" stringer system offering years of worry-free boating. All stringers and transoms are constructed using composite coring for maximum strength and performance with a significant weight savings over wood. All LXR, LXC, ZF and ZX models have deep interior freeboard. This ensures a safe day on the water, especially in rough seas. Donzi utilizes premium grade stainless steel for longer life and less rusting and pitting. The cuddy cabins and mid-berth models feature the largest interiors of any boats in their class, with standard amenities usually found as options on much larger vessels. On the Donzi Classic and ZX line, stringer systems and transoms are made with the highest care. First the marine grade wood is resin saturated. After the installation of the stringers and transom, biaxial fiberglass is applied to totally encapsulate the entire system. The benefits of this elaborate process are twofold: it seals the wood and protects it from the elements; it also adds structural integrity to the entire hull. Today's Donzis feature race proven deep vee hulls, combined with elegant styling, for the best performing, best looking boats on the water. This year Donzi introduces the Z-Tech hull design. The Z-Tech ventilated Stepped Bottom allows the hull to have less wetted surface and gives the boat much better overall performance. Available on all Daytonas, ZXs, LXRs, and Sport Deck models. Donzi's exclusive Z-Tech hull provides more positive lift, creates less wetted running surface, and tracks straighter than traditional deep V's. The ZX boats utilize race-proven 22 degree deep vee hulls and new for 998 is the addition of the all new Z Tech ventilated step bottom. Custom designed paint jobs are available to personalize each boat for its owner. n house artists and designers are available to customize and coordinate color design schemes. ZX Cabins have a fiberglass inner liner for structural strength and sound deadening in rough seas. Engine compartments are finished in gelcoat for long lasting good looks and ease of maintenance. Of course, the ZXs come with Donzi's Z-Tech ventilated step hull which forces air under the hull and gives the bottom less wetted surface. This means a faster, smoother, and better performing boat.
