General Race Information. Volunteers run the Laurel Hills District Pinewood Race under the supervision of Dana Waugaman, LH District Executive. Any questions regarding the District Pinewood Derby can be directed to Dana Waugaman, 724-837-1630. How the Speed race is run: We have a 3-lane track with a computerized scoring system for race results. Each Scout will race his car 3 times, once on each lane. The computer will record the scout s time for each lane. The 3 times are used at the end to determine the overall fastest car. The times are to the thousandth of a second, so they are very accurate. The announcer will announce each heat and the On Deck heat. Scouts are to be at the starting line when it is their heat. Scouts should come to the starting line when they are ON DECK. This will expedite the entire process. Once registration is closed, no scout can join the race. Please be prompt to register your car. How the Best Design and Most Original are judged: All rules for the speed cars apply to the show cars. This includes height/weight, etc. Decorative items may be purchased via internet/other vendors as long as long as the original BSA kit was used per the stated rules. The scouts registered in the district Pinewood Derby will decide winners in the best design and most original categories. Each scout will be given one vote. The car with the most votes will be declared the winner. Old-timers, Ladies and Troops: Old-timers and Boy Scouts racing need to preregister. Please register old-timers and boy scouts with your pack. They must be entered into the database in order to race and pre-registration will expedite the process. Old-timers/Scouts will follow the same rules and regulations as the cub scouts. Bushy Run District will race with the Laurel Hills old-timers/scouts.

RULES & REGULATIONS FOR ALL PINEWOOD DERBY CARS 1. Cars must be made from the official BSA pinewood kit and must be made new since the 2014 Pinewood Derby. In other words, you cannot race a previous year s car. 2. No parts may be purchased from the Internet or other vendors. Scouts must use the Chassis, axles, and wheels that come in the kit. (Replacement wheels and axles and the new colored wheels from the BSA store or www.scoutstuff.org are the only allowed wheel or axle change from what comes in the original kit. This kit may only be purchased at the Westmoreland Fayette Scout store or from www.scoutstuff.org. Please access the scoutstuff.org site via the Westmoreland Fayette site to give our council credit for the purchase.) Decorative items may be purchased from any source and used as long as the car passes all other inspection criteria. 3. A Scout must race the car he qualified with in his pack s pinewood derby. 4. A Scout must be present in Class A uniform to register and race his car. (Scouts are representing their pack and the district in a public event). Scouts without a Class A uniform will not be able to race. At minimum the scout should have his Class A shirt and blue jeans or official BSA pants. 5. If a boy is not able to be present at the race, his car cannot race without him. Do not register a boy who cannot be present on race day. 6. Each unit MUST pre-register their entrants in the race. NO ONE CAN REGISTER THE DAY OF THE RACE 7. Deadline for registration entries is February 3 rd, 2015 and the fee is $5.00 per scout 8. In order to post race results on the Westmoreland-Fayette website, Parents or Guardians will be asked to sign a photo/internet waiver. There is a form attached, please have your Scout s parents sign it and bring it to the District Race. We will have extra forms available on race day. A parent may choose they do not want their son s picture or name on the website. In that case, instead of the boy s name it will say Pack ### racer and they will not have their picture taken in any group photos. If the person who brings the scout to the race is not a parent, the adult with the child will be considered their guardian for photo/name release purposes. 9. When the Scout signs in the day of the race, the registrar will assign him a number that will be placed on his car. His car will then go to the inspection station. Alterations necessary for inspection are the sole responsibility of the parent of the participant. The staff will not supply any equipment or materials for alterations. The Scout must register his own car. He must be present and carry the car. Parents are NOT allowed to register a car for a boy!

10. Decision of the inspection judge is final. After inspection, the cars will remain in the race area until they are done racing. 11. Each heat will be announced. When your car is ON DECK, please report to the starting line. Scouts will place their car on the track. All other people must remain behind the barrier. 12. If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, interferes with another car, loses an axle, etc. the heat will be rerun. If the same car gets into trouble on the second run, the contestant will be disqualified. If, on the second run, another car is interfered with, the heat will be run a third time but without the disqualified car. Any repairs made due to an accident must be done under the supervision of a race official only 13. When the results of each heat are recorded, the drivers will return their car to the race official and return to their seats. 14. Winners will be announced at the end of the race. Winners must be present for trophy presentation. Those winners will report to the stage for presentation and pictures. 15.
