Peters& Thieding Hochspannungstechnik GmbH Earthing Switch Class B Hochspannungstechnik Peters & Thieding GmbH
OVERVIEW The PTE earthing switch is an indoor switching device for installation in air-insulated medium voltage switchgear systems. It has been type tested with 5 closing operations at rated short-circuit making current and rated voltage, and therefore fulfils the high demands of Class B. The PTE earthing switch is available in the following versions: 12 kv up to 63 ka Pole centres 150 mm and 210 mm 24 kv up to 50 ka Pole centres 210 mm and 275 mm Right hand or left hand mechanism Actuating shaft journal (dia. 30 mm) cylindrical or with V slot for bevel gear mechanism TECHNICAL DATA Standards: VDE 0670 Part 2 (IEC 60129) VDE 0670 Part 1000 (IEC 60694) Electrical Data: Rated voltage kv 12 24 Rated making current ka 50/63 40/50 Rated short-time current ka 20/25 16/20 Rated short-circuit duration s 3 3 Rated lightning impulse withstand voltage 1,2/50µs kv 75 125 Rated power-frequency withstand voltage kv 28 50 Rated frequency Hz 50/60 50/60 Class B B 2
DESCRIPTION The PTE earthing switch has three pairs of earthing pins which are mounted on a hinged crossbeam. They are connected by a short-circuiting bar located inside the crossbeam. A compact design with low installation depth is achieved in this way. The crossbeam with the earthing pins is freely movable on the actuating shaft. The short-circuiting bridge is connected to one of the bearing brackets at the sides by means of a flexible copper cable and earthed with its fastening screw. No separate earthing screw is required. The force is transmitted from the actuating shaft to the crossbeam by driver levers on both sides of the switch. The closing motion of the earthing pins is effected automatically by two pre-tensioned toggle springs which relax when the dead centre position is exceeded. The closing speed is thus independent of the speed of the operating mechanism. The switch can be fitted with a 30 mm dia. actuating journal or with a 10 mm, 90 V slot for right hand or left hand mechanisms. Operation of the switch can be effected with a rod mechanism, bevel gear mechanism or flexball mechanism. A bevel gear mechanism with geared motor and emergency manual operation is available for remote control. Two auxiliary switches (2 NOC + 2 NCC each) can be fitted to provide feedback signals in the two limit positions for control and annunciation purposes. The earthing contacts for the switch are supplied loose. They must be fitted and set to the correct distance on the opposite busbars in accordance with the installation instructions and drawing no. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE The following instructions are to be observed on installation of the earthing switch to ensure perfect function and avoid damage: For safety reasons, the earthing switch is supplied in the closed position with the toggle springs relaxed. The switch must not be closed without earthing contacts. The cantilever strength of the mounting rail for the earthing contacts must be at least 5 kn. The operating mechanism is to be rated for a breakaway torque of max. 240 Nm (opening torque under normal conditions 130 Nm). 1. Install the earthing switch on a flat and strong panel wall or corresponding mounting rails, at any orientation, and fasten the flexible earthing cable to the corresponding bearing bracket. 2. Open the switch far enough to create space for installation of the earthing contacts on the opposite busbar. Lock the contact springs by inserting a screw, pin or similar into the slot in the guide link for one of the springs. 3. Install the earthing contacts in line with the centres of the earthing pins in accordance with drawing GPTF 700753, and lightly tighten the fastening screws. 4. Slowly close the switch, and the earthing contacts are centred by the earthing pins. Tighten the fastening screws to the PTE 24 kv with earthing contacts permissible torque (for M 8-8.8 screws). 5. Slowly open the switch, and perform a visual check on the centred position of the earthing contacts between the earthing pins. 6. Grease the earthing contacts. 7. Assemble the operating mechanism: Selection and installation of operating mechanism to match the position and design of the actuating journal (30 mm dia. cylindrical or with 10 mm V slot, 90, right or left). 8. Test the operating mechanism: When the mechanism is closed very slowly, the switch must not remain in the dead centre position. 9. Perform routine testing to VDE 0670 Part 2, section 7.101, i.e. mechanical function test by opening and closing the switch PTE 12 kv built-in, with earthing contacts several times. 10. Check the connection to the station earth and establish a flexible cable connection if necessary. Maintenance Earthing switches of type PTE belong to class B, i.e. no maintenance work on the main contacts is necessary during their service life. Regular servicing of the switch in the course of switchgear maintenance is however useful. The intervals are dependent on the ambient conditions. Perform the following checks: Smooth running of the operating mechanism. Visual examination for soiling, moisture formation, corrosion, and clean with a dry, non-fraying cloth if necessary (do not use cleaning wool). Regrease the contacts with lubricant type Isoflex Topas NB 52, manufacturer Klüber, or equivalent. 5
