Instruction Sheet P/N 08880B Introduction The FR- and RA- nylon fluid regulators are patented, electrically non-conductive, air-operated, pressure regulators. Except for the body shape and fluid connection arrangement, the two regulators are the same. See Figure. The regulators are designed for both circulating and non-circulating systems. In a circulating system, the fluid circulates through the body of the regulator through the two ports (in one port and out the other). In a non-circulating system, a nylon 3 / 8 -in. NPTF plug is inserted in one port. The FR- fluid regulator can be mounted to the extension of a Nordson automatic electrostatic air spray gun, behind a rotary atomizer, or remotely. The RA- fluid regulator mounts inside the Nordson Model RA- rotary atomizer. 3 5 5 3 FR RA 30073A Figure Model FR- and Model RA- Nylon Fluid Regulator. Optional mounting block (AN-9 and 3. Use the support blocks when the regulator is mounted directly to the spray guns. Installation Install the FR- nylon fluid regulator in an upward position, as shown in Figure. Make sure the fluid output is on the top. Install the The RA- regulator as shown in Figure. Operation To operate the regulator, apply air pressure to the inlet port (3) in the bonnet. To increase fluid pressure, increase the input air pressure. Remotely regulated input air pressure controls the output fluid pressure. The ratio of input air pressure to output fluid pressure is approximately :. Part 08880B
3 Repair Disassembly Assembly WARNING: Do not substitute the fittings furnished with this regulator with any other plastic or metal fittings. Sparking caused by non-grounded metal fittings or by electrostatic breakdown in the pin holing of plastic fittings may cause fire or explosion. Refer to the spray gun manual(s) for proper fluid inlet fittings. See Figures and 3. NOTE: If you are disassembling the FR- fluid regulator, skip to step.. Unscrew the RA- regulator adapters (6, 9) and remove them from the body (8).. Unscrew the bonnet () and remove it from the body. 3. Use a wrench to remove the seat retainer () from the body.. Hold the needle () in place with a screwdriver and remove the following: nut (3) stainless steel washer (7) PTFE washer (6) gasket () diaphragm (5) PTFE washer (6) stainless steel washer (7) 5. Remove the needle and the washer () then remove the seat (0) 6. Remove the O-ring () from the seat retainer. 7. Inspect the O-ring (), all the washers (6, 7, ) and the diaphragm (5) for wear, damage, or both. Replace them if necessary. Refer to the parts list for the correct service kit.. Place the seat (0) in the body (8).. Place the washer () over the threads of the needle (). 3. Push the needle through the seat in the body with your finger and then place the following parts on the needle: stainless steel washer (7) PTFE washer (6) diaphragm (5) PTFE washer (6) stainless steel washer (7) nut (3). Install the O-ring (3) on the seat retainer () then wrap the seat retainer threads with four turns of PTFE tape. 5. Thread the seat retainer into the body until snug. Overtightening could reduce the range of available fluid output pressure. 6. Wrap the body threads with four turns of PTFE tape. 7. Place the gasket () on top of the diaphragm and tighten the bonnet () 3 / 8 to / turn beyond hand tight. Part 08880B
Parts NOTE: Make sure the gasket is in the correct position on the diaphragm. This prevents the gasket from becoming pinched or cut.
