Tutor T1 The Grob 115E aircraft entered Royal Air Force service in 1999 as the Tutor T1, replacing the Bulldog at UAS and AEFs. The RAF Tutor has dual controls and the 2 seats are in side-by-side format. Tucano Shorts of Belfast produce the Tucano T1. It is a development of the Brazilian EMB-312 Tucano (Toucan). The canopy is in two sections and is bird strike-resistant for pilot protection. The cockpit layout has been designed to mimic that of the Hawk advanced trainer as much as possible, to aid continuity in training. The instructor s rear seat is raised to allow a clear view over the student s head; this gives the aircraft a humpbacked appearance.
