WHY APPRENTICESHIPS? There are many routes into engineering. However, an apprenticeship with Cosworth will enable you to experience the automotive industry while developing extensive knowledge and a set of skills that are essential for a future career path in engineering. At Cosworth, we are proud to offer apprenticeships that start people on the road to a long and successful career. Each applicant is required to have at least 3 GCSEs grades A-C including Maths, English and Science. You must also either be working towards or have already attained an Extended Diploma or a BTEC qualification in Engineering. Applicants that are accepted onto the Apprenticeship programme will study towards a full engineering apprenticeship framework which will include: z NVQ3 Extended Diploma in a relevant skills area z Study towards a Level 3 Technical Certificate z Practical experience of the industry within their chosen skill area z Functional skills (Maths, English and ICT) z Personal learning and critical thinking skills z Employment rights and responsibilities

You ll also have access to mentors who will support you through your studies, offering guidance to help you achieve your full potential. JOB OPPORTUNITIES There are six domains in which an apprentice can work in at Cosworth: ELECTRONICS Working alongside members of the electronics team to: z Populate printed circuit boards (PCB) using Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) z Build motorsport products to a high specification z Liaise with production staff to resolve build issues z Test product using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and in-house test equipment z Complete build and quality standard documentation ENGINE (ASSEMBLY AND TESTING) Working with other members of the engine build team to: z Strip and build engines z Build ancillary equipment z Test engines in the Dyno area z Complete build documentation z Liaise with engineering staff to resolve build issues MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN Working with other members of the maintenance team to: z Carry out electro/mechanical repair of company assets z Perform preventative maintenance duties z Liaise with manufacturing staff to resolve issues z Completion of maintenance logs z Interact with suppliers for timely arrival of components
MANUAL/CNC MANUFACTURING Working alongside members of the manufacturing team to: z Produce components on both manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery z Programme CNC machines for one off prototypes z Machine small production runs z Read third angle engineering drawings z Liaise with Quality and Production Engineers to meet delivery dates PRODUCTION ENGINEERING Working with other members of the production engineering team to: z Design tooling, jigs and fixtures z Write programs for CNC turning, milling and machining centres z Programme and use of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) methods z Write work instructions z Liaise with manufacturing staff to resolve engineering issues QUALITY Working with other members of the quality team to: z Programme and use a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) z Gauge and calibrate equipment z Collect and analyse data z Liaise with manufacturing staff to resolve quality issues z Write quality reports and process documentation

COSWORTH PROJECTS Cosworth has created engines and electronics for Aston Martin, Caterham, Chevrolet, Lotus, Porsche, and Renault Sport Technologies. An extensive description of these projects can be found on our website. RENAULT SPORT TECHNOLOGIES Renault Sport selected Cosworth to provide the technological advancements demanded by modern racing. Cosworth chose its flagship ECU, the Pectel MQ12 to provide advanced control for the new engine. Furthermore, new code was developed for the ECU to control the Formula Renault 3.5 s DRS system, bringing the series in line with F1 technology. CORVETTE STINGRAY PDR The Cosworth PDR is an advanced vehicle data capture and display system aimed at improving driver performance. The system was engineered to pass General Motors rigorous design and production validation processes. Fully certified by General Motors, it is available as a factory-fitted option in a number of their vehicle lines, such as the Stingray. ASTON MARTIN ONE-77 Cosworth developed an ultrahigh performance supercar engine for one of the world s most prestigious OEM s. The development team achieved a 45% performance increase and a reduction in mass of over 10% compared to Aston Martin s reference engine; this resulted in one of the world s most powerful naturally aspirated road engines.
