Reference Diagram No. 1 For Steps 1 thru 3) TurfVent SeriesTwo ASSEMBLY TV 32-W, TV 40-W, TV 48-W (continued) 1. Lay out the four frame sections. Be sure the shorter (side) sections are beneath the longer (front rear) sections. From the top, put a 3/8-16 x 1 hex capscrew into each of the four corners of the frame and hand tighten the 3/8-16 Nylon insert lock nut. Tighten the four lock nuts until the frame sections are just snug. 2. Place the frame weight grill across the opening on the bottom of the frame between the front/rear frame sections. Place the four frame weight supports (Ref. No. 3.) on the grill, lining up the holes with the frame except the center holes, which are used by the drawbar. Special Note for TV 48-W: There are two frame support and brace components that are to be placed in the holes closest to the center holes. There will then be six frame/weight supports to be attached to this model. From the top, put a 3/8-16 x 1 hex capscrew into each of the holes of the frame/weight supports and hand tighten the 3/8-16 Nylon insert lock nut on the bottom of the frame. Using your square to make sure the frame is square. Re-check the frame, making sure it is as square as possible. Tighten the lock nuts securing the frame/weight supports. Verify that it has remained square after tightening the lock nuts and adjust if necessary. 3. Line up holes in the drawbar with the center holes in the frame and put a 3/8-16 x 2-1/4 hex capscrew into each of the two center holes of the frame and through the drawbar. Put a 3/8-16 Nylon insert lock nut on the capscrews and tighten securely. Page 3
4. (Reference Diagram No. 2. For Step 4) Assemble the hitch plates as shown with the drawbar between them. Put two 3/8-16 x 2-1/4 hex Capscrews through this assembly from the top and tighten the 3/8-16 Nylon insert lock nuts securely.. **(Reference Diagram No. 3. For Steps 5 thru 10) 5. With the drawbar in place, the front and rear of the TurfVent is now established as well as the direction of travel. The left and right side of the TurfVent is determined by the forward direction of travel. Look carefully at the core tine cluster and shaft assembly and find an arrow sticker on one of the tine plates that indicates the direction the tines should rotate. When the aerator is attached to a tractor and in use, the tines will penetrate the ground with the closed portion facing the direction of travel. Page 4
6. Place the side plate assemblies on each end of the core tine shaft, resting them on the flat surface of the side plate. Remove the vinyl shipping caps from the ends of shaft and carefully place the ends of the shaft into the bearing portion of the side plates. The core tine cluster and shaft assembly should now be resting only on the bearings in the side plates. 7. Place the four 1/2-13 x 1-1/4 hex capscrew into the side frame holes from the top of the frame and lower the core tine cluster and shaft assembly on to the frame, guiding the capscrews through the appropriate holes in the side plates. Put the 1/2-13 Nylon insert lock nuts on the capscrews and tighten securely. TurfVent SeriesTwo ASSEMBLY TV 32-W, TV 40-W, TV 48-W (continued) 8. Put a 5/8 ID flat washer over the end of a 5/8-11 x 4-1/2 hex capscrew and put the capscrew through the valve stem side of a wheel and tire assembly. Put another 5/8 ID flat washer over the end of the capscrew and into the large hole on the bottom of the wheel position lever. Tighten a 5/8-11 Nylon insert lock nut until the wheel just begins to bind and then back off slightly, allowing the wheel to turn freely without excess play. Repeat for both tire assemblies. 9. Add grease to all appropriate fittings on the tine clusters and tire assemblies. Wipe off any excess grease. 10. Lift the wheel position clips and move the wheel position lever until the clip captures the shoulder bolt, holding the wheels in the transport position. OPERATING YOUR TURFVENT 32-W, 40-W, 48-W 1. Connect your TurfVent to your tractor using an appropriate hitch pin through the hitch plates and tractor platform. 2. Place the correct amount of weight into the weight tray of your aerator frame, but DO NOT EXCEED the following maximums for the TurfVent model you have: Model TV 32-W TV 40-W TV 48-W Recommended Weight 150-200 pounds 150-200 pounds 150-200 pounds Make certain the weight is secure so it will not shift when you move around your lawn. The amount of weight needed will vary with soil conditions. 3. Drive your tractor to the lawn area you wish to aerate. When the TurfVent s wheels are on the lawn, lift the end of the wheel position clip, releasing it from the shoulder bolt, and rotate the top of the wheel position lever to the rear. This will cause the wheel to rotate forward and lower the tines to the ground. Position the other wheel in the same manner. Page 5
4. The TurfVent Ejector Tines have a maximum coring depth of 3.5. The moisture content of the soil, the amount of weight in the weight tray, and the travel speed all affect the turf penetration. Moist or sandy soil conditions, maximum weight, and slow travel speed will provide the maximum coring depth. OPERATION CAUTIONS AND SUGGESTIONS WARNING! Under NO circumstances should children, adults or animals be allowed on any part of the TurfVent at any time for any reason! Do not operate the TurfVent near people or pets and stop the tractor if they approach you while you are operating the TurfVent. Hitch adjustments or weights on the aerator frame should not be adjusted or moved unless the tractor is stopped and the parking brake applied. Attach the TurfVent to your tractor and detach it from your tractor ONLY when both are on level ground. Do not pull the TurfVent across a slope or incline. Always pull it straight up or straight down a slope or incline. Do not allow the TurfVent to be pulled across paved or gravel roads, driveways, sidewalks, patios, etc., as the TurfVent tines will be damaged and the surface could also be damaged. Always raise the TurfVent to the transport position when you cross these surfaces. Do not pull the TurfVent over hoses, electrical cords, down-spout extensions, etc., as damage may occur. Make certain the lawn area to be aerated is clear of these and any other obstructions before you begin using the TurfVent. The TurfVent is NOT intended for highway travel. MAINTENANCE Lubricate the tine clusters at the grease fittings after every ten hours (using a general purpose grease) of operation to keep them turning freely. Check fasteners periodically to make sure they are tight. Maintain the transport tire pressure at the 30 psi maximum. Page 6
