Reaction njection olding Reaction injection molding is similar to injection molding, except that a reaction occurs within the mold. The process uses thermoset polymers (polyurethane) instead of thermoplastic polymers used in standard injection molding. Before injection of the polymer, two components are mixed which react in the mold to form a solid thermoset polymer. The result a very strong, lightweight and durable material. By fusing polyurethane directly to the lighting surface, a continuous high-performance bond is generated that eliminates the need for a gasket, creating a seal that will not fail due to improper installation, weathering or lack of compression.
