Combined with its many integrated accessories, Emax 2 provides a simple and space-saving, but comprehensive, solution for power systems on marine vessels. Connected to the ship s automation system, the cloud and other breakers, complete solutions can be realized - for example, power management with load shedding and advanced selectivity for dynamically positioned (DP) ships and vessels. Ekip UP is the low-voltage digital unit able to monitor, protect and control the next generation of vessels. Thanks to the embedded software-based functions and application versatility, Ekip UP upgrades any existing marine system into advanced power distribution grid. Leveraging on the upload of microgrid and IoT innovative technology, the ABB plug&play solution updates the efficiency of the basic installations, increases awareness of resources and process behaviors, and delivers an easier, more intuitive user experience. The digital unit ensures low impact on the original ship-switchgear design and reduced commissioning downtime to maximize uptime in all projects. Every ship, no matter the size, uses a significant number of MCBs. MCBs protect the power delivery to all applications. Innovation has always been a key to ABB success and ABB invented the MCB almost 100 years ago. Based on this long experience, ABB knows how to make MCBs reliable and which smart accessories an installation requires. In the challenging marine environment, even simple products like cable ties need to be carefully selected. ABB has cable ties for any requirement. ABB s Ty-Rap range is particularly well-known. Safety is a top priority at sea and fast detection of any danger is mandatory. ABB has a wide range of smoke and heat detectors for indoor use.

Liquidtight fittings Motor starters Installation solution Low-voltage switchgear Main distribution boards (enclosures) Liquidtight fittings keep cables protected when entering or exiting vessel decks or any wet areas. Made for harsh environments, available in many different versions and materials, including stainless steel. With a unique design for sealing and adjustment, and fast installation. Electric motors have many marine uses - for example, in deck machinery and pumps. ABB is a specialist in motor control and protection, and has solutions for all starting methods. Manual and compact motor starters are mainly used for simple applications with smaller motors (below approx. 40 kw.) In marine projects, exact MCB ratings are often defined very late on. Smissline is a safe power distribution system for DIN rail mount products that allows panel builders to finalize delivery without the MCBs. Later, when defined, the MCBs can just be snapped on to the Smissline DIN rail. This makes projects faster and life easier for panel builders. Low-voltage switchgear is always a vital part of marine power systems, whether power is generated as low voltage (up to 1000 V) or as medium voltage with the use of transformers. MNS is ABB s range of low-voltage switchgear and is characterized by high performance, high safety and easy maintenance. System Pro E power is ABB s enclosure system for the main power distribution system. Robust, safe and reliable, it includes several innovations to reduce assembly time. Arc protection Insulation monitor At sea, special attention must be paid to the safety of electric power systems. Mechanical (enclosures) and current-based protection (breakers) provide only basic protection. To save lives and reduce damage during arc fault events (ie, short-circuits passing through the air) enhanced protection is normally needed for ships and marine vessels. ABB has various solutions that reduce risk and provide different protection levels, for both medium-voltage and low-voltage applications. Solutions include, for example, Arc Guard System (TVOC-2) and the ultrafast earthing switch (UFES) that can both be added to the switchgear. Power systems on ships are of the insulated type. All unearthed systems must have monitoring of the system insulation to earth (ground) and alarms for earth faults or reduced insulation levels. ABB s insulation monitor is part of the CM range of monitoring relays. Molded-case circuit breakers (MCCBs) Transfer switches ABB s Tmax moulded-case circuit breakers meet the marine requirements of high performance, safety and reliability. Different trip units for protection are available and communication with other breakers allows for the advanced selectivity needed offshore and on cruise ships. This includes digital zone selectivity. Transfer switches are used for connecting (and re-connecting) generators to ship network and work together with synchronization function. Available both based on circuit breakers and switch disconnectors. Switch disconnectors Fusegear and fuses Switch disconnectors are used in the electric power systems of ships. ABB s OT range is reliable and flexible with different pole configurations. Mounting is possible in any orientation, minimizing space requirements by adapting to panel design. ABB fusegear products are designed for an easy, safe and reliable installation.

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) Ship control, navigation and dynamic positioning are examples of systems with extreme availability needs. A key element to achieving this availability is uninterrupted, high-quality electric power. ABB offers high-end UPS solutions for different requirements. Cable protection system In the marine environment, ship cables need to be well protected. With the PMA and Adaptaflex ranges, ABB is a leader in both metallic and nylon cable protection systems, including conduits and fittings. Explosion-proof cable management Offshore, and especially related to the oil and gas business, explosion-proof solutions are required for safety. ABB has many different product ranges for ex environment, including cable management (conduits, fittings, cable glands and accessories.) Metallic and non metallic. Ex control panels and junction boxes With high flexibility, custom-built control panels based on standard components, ABB offers ex solutions with control boxes, cabinets and junction boxes. Ex lighting and floodlight To reduce vessel energy consumption and maintenance costs, ABB offers lighting solutions with LEDs. Emergency and industrial lighting Safety onboard requires emergency lighting. ABB has a wide range of lighting for various purposes. Machine safety products and solutions A ship s machinery needs to be safe, both for operators and maintenance personnel. With a wide range of safety products including, for example, safety relays, safety PLCs and safety locks ABB is a specialist in safety solutions that also ensure maximized machinery availability. Enclosed switches For safe working during maintenance or repair, on or below deck, enclosed switches can be located close to machinery and padlocked so that power is not switched on accidentally. ABB has a wide range of switches with plastic or metallic enclosures. Plugs & sockets, interconnection system ABB has a complete portfolio of power plugs and sockets, color-coded for different voltages. Connection devices (terminal blocks and motor connectors) With significant onboard vibration, spring connection technology is appreciated. ABB has combined this technology with a push-in design for faster installation to produce PI-Spring. Terminal blocks are used everywhere, so ABB has a full range of terminal block products and solutions with different connection technologies. Complete DIN-rail assemblies are popular. Motor connectors are for fast and reliable change-out with no bolting, taping or loose connections. Compression connectors (cable lugs) High-performance compression lugs for both low- and medium-voltage cables with smart features like hole inspection for compression/installation control. Pilot devices and cam switches For panels located on deck, high-performance IP69k-protected pilot devices may be a good idea. ABB ranges are for all applications and include pilot lights, push buttons, selector switches, toggle switches, joysticks, buzzers and signal towers. For more complex switch needs, cam switches can be freely configured.

For motor control of deck machinery and pumps as well as switching thrusters, ABB has a complete range of contactors, including the largest on the market. Ships with a weak electric network will find the electronically controlled AF range very reliable due to its immunity to sags and dips on the control voltage. Used in many ship applications, manual motor starters provide electromechanical protection for the main circuit. In addition to manual ON/OFF, they provide fuseless protection against short circuits, overload and phase failures. For frequent or remote start/stop of motors, they are used together with contactors. For oil and gas offshore, ABB s intelligent motor controllers (Universal Motor Controller, UMC) has motor protection, motor control, Fieldbus and Ethernet communication, and fault diagnosis. Mainly used in motor control centers. For all ship applications, control power is needed. The CP range of power supplies, for 5 to 48 V DC, provides reliability and space savings through the latest technology in a compact design. Measuring and monitoring go hand in hand with the ship s automation. The CM range of relays includes relays for measuring liquid level, temperature, voltage, current, electric insulation, motor load and impedance (thermistor motor protection). Ship automation involves many different functions for various applications. ABB has a wide range of electronic products and relays for automation and communication, including a comprehensive "PLC peripherals" product palette. Examples are interface relays, optocouplers, signal converters and electronic timers. Onboard comfort for crew and passengers through smart devices for room control and monitoring, including sensors, controllers and communication. Controlling light, heat, ventilation and room access using ABB i-bus KNX also provides energy savings and security. KNX is an open standard for control. The temperature in cabins and work areas is important to wellbeing. Let cruise passengers select their optimal cabin temperature. A comfortable light level in any room is easily achieved by a dimmer. ABB offers dimmers for different types of lamps. Controlling motorized blinds to decide whether to enjoy the sunshine and sea view or reduce incoming light and heat in the room. Multimedia devices such as audio, video and hard discs can work together and be controlled by data communication adapters. AudioWorld is an audio system for entertainment and communication. Security onboard can be supported by control of access to different areas on the ship.

IEC air-insulated switchgear and motor control centers for primary distribution IEC air-insulated switchgear for secondary distribution IEC gas-insulated switchgear for secondary distribution Medium-voltage switchgear is a critical link in the power distribution chain of marine vessels. Some of the primary air-insulated distribution switchgear in the UniGear product family are available as marine-versions: UniGear ZS1 (single and double level), UniGear 550, and UniGear MCC. The primary distribution switchgear in the UniGear family have been fully type tested in compliance with the most rigorous international standards and hold a wide range of marine certifications. Safety and reliability are key design criteria, so the units are fully arc-proof. The UniGear ZS1 is used in ships and rigs all over the world with more than 20.000 panels installed. For optimal use of space, the UniGear ZS1 is also available as a double-level solution. The UniGear 550 is the perfect fit for marine applications, thanks to its reduced footprint and weight, and it is also available for shore connection solutions. The product family also includes a motor control center solution, the UniGear MCC, which is fully available for highly demanding marine applications. For optimal flexibility, you can use a combination of UniGear ZS1 (single and double level), UniGear 550 and UniGear MCC in the same switchgear line-up, without using any adaptor panels. The UniGear product family switchgear cover ratings up to 4000A, 50kA. The secondary distribution switchgear UniSec is fully available for marine application; it has been tested in compliance with the most rigorous international standards and holds the main marine certifications. Designed for the highest degree of safety and reliability, UniSec cover ratings up to 1250A, 25 ka. It is internal arc proof and suitable for all kinds of vessel typologies: from container and mega yacht as main switchgear, to cruise as ring distribution network. Shore connection design is also available. UniSec can offer a high variety of technical solutions thanks to its extensive portfolio with vacuum withdrawable and removable circuit breakers panels, SF6 switch disconnector panels, and withdrawable contactor panel, which can be combined in the same switchgear line-up for maximum flexibility. The apparatus components satisfy high levels of resistance to stresses typical for marine applications (mechanical vibrations, oscillations) and meet the approval criteria of international shipping registers. SafePlus secondary distribution switchgear is type-certified by DNV and suitable for marine applications. The switchgear conforms to environmental, vibration and ingress protection requirements of the DNV rules. Available functional units for marine applications are switch disconnector module (C), fuse switch disconnector module (F) and circuit breaker module (V) up to 24kV, in any combination from 2 up to 5 modules. SafePlus switchgear provides ingress protection IP 22C as a standard feature. Optional arc suppressor to avoid any damages occurred in case of an internal arc inside the gas tank is available.

Feeder protection and control relays The relay REF615 IEC and the more configurable relay REF620 IEC are intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of cable feeders in power distribution networks. The relays are characterized by the functional scalability, configurability and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The freely configurable relay REF630 IEC is suitable for complex and demanding applications with a high number of switching devices in power distribution networks. The relay is characterized by functional scalability and easy tailoring to application-specific requirements with freely selectable functions. Large integrated or detached Human Machine Interface (HMI). The 615, 620 and 630 series are part of the Relion product family. The relays meet the approval criteria of international shipping registers Motor protection and control relays The REM615 IEC relay features ready-made standard configurations for fast and easy setup with tailoring capabilities intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of medium-sized and large asynchronous, breaker and contactor-controlled motors, in low- and medium-voltage applications. The relay is characterized by the compact and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The REM620 IEC is a configurable motor management relay for protection, control, measurement and supervision of medium-sized and large asynchronous and synchronous motors requiring differential protection, in low- and medium-voltage applications. The relay is characterized by the functional scalability, configurability and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The freely configurable relay REM630 IEC is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of medium-sized and large asynchronous and synchronous, breaker and contactor-controlled motors requiring differential protection, in low- and medium- voltage applications. The relay is characterized by functional scalability and easy tailoring to application-specific requirements with freely selectable functions. Large integrated or detached HMI. The 615, 620 and 630 series are part of the Relion product family. The relays meet the approval criteria of international shipping registers. Generator protection relays The REG615 IEC relay is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of small and medium-sized synchronous power generators (typically 0.5 MW 8 MW). Available in two standard configurations, with and without differential protection. Ready-made standard configurations, for fast and easy setup with tailoring capabilities. The relay is characterized by the compact and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The freely configurable REG630 IEC is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of small and medium sized generators requiring differential protection. The relay is characterized by functional scalability and easy tailoring to applicationspecific requirements with freely selectable functions. Large integrated or detached HMI. The 615 and 630 series are part of the Relion product family. The relays meet the approval criteria of international shipping registers.

Transformer protection and control relays The RET615 IEC relay is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of two-winding medium-sized and large power transformers. The relay features ready-made standard configurations for fast and easy setup with tailoring capabilities. The relay is characterized by the compact and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The configurable transformer management relay RET620 IEC is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of two-winding power transformers. The relay is characterized by the functional scalability, configurability and withdrawable plug-in unit design. The freely configurable relay RET630 IEC is intended for protection, control, measurement and supervision of medium-sized and large two-winding power transformers. The products are registered in the main marine registers (e.g. DNV, Germanischer Lloyd, RINA, ABS, and Bureau Veritas). ABB ensures safety and protection of your assets using advanced technologies and an optimum interface. The gas-insulated circuit breaker HD4 uses sulphur hexafluoride gas (SF6) to extinguish electric arcs, and the circuit breaker VD4 is based on vacuum technology for current interruption. Both are available with a completely customizable range of accessories to meet different needs and can be tailored to your specific application. Medium-voltage contactors V-Contact VSC are suitable to control loads that require a high number of hours in operation. Thanks to the breaking technique used in our vacuum interrupters, contactors can operate in particularly difficult environments, satisfying high levels of resistance to stresses typical for marine applications. The products are registered in main marine registers (e.g. DNV, Lloyd, RINA, ABS and Bureau Veritas). An internal arc fault UFES is the most serious fault within a switchgear system, associated with extremely high thermal and mechanical stresses. The UFES offers arc flash mitigation in less than 4 ms reaching the highest possible level of arc flash protection for personnel and equipment. It furthermore secures the power supply and minimizes production outages. The UFES system is fully compatible to ABB arc protection system REA and Arc Guard System (TVOC-2). When planning or modifying electrical systems very high short-circuit fault levels are common problems in high power low- and medium-voltage systems. Those short-circuit faults can lead to severe damage of the installed electrical equipment.
