Engine Oil Filter Change Interval Honda 16HP: replace the oil filter every 6 months or 100 hours. Before installing replacement filter, apply a coating of oil on the surface of the rubber seal. Tighten filter 7/8 of a turn after initial seal contact. Kohler: replace oil filter every 100 hours or every season. Before installing, lightly oil gasket. Tighten filter ½ or ¾ turn after initial gasket contact. Engine Oil Change Interval Honda: on a new engine, change oil after the first month or 20 hours of operation; and then every six months or 100 operating hours thereafter. Kohler: on a new engine, change oil after the first five hours of operation and then every 50 hours or every season thereafter.
General Service Information 2 Engine Oil Recommendations Use 4-stroke automotive detergent oil of A.P.I. service class, SH, SJ, or SG. SAE 10W30 is recommended for general use when the temperature is between 0 and 100 degrees (F) or select the viscosity based on the air temperature at the time of operation. See Kohler Owner s Manual (Kohler Part Number TP-2548) (Hustler Part Number 794511). Clean area around base of spark plugs before removing to prevent dirt from entering engine. Install the plugs and tighten 1/8 to ¼ of a turn after they seat. (1/2 turn if installing new plugs.) Plugs should be replaced every two years or 300 hours. Kohler: check spark plug condition and reset gap every 2 years or 200 hours. Replace spark plugs every 500 hours. FUEL RECOMMENDATION Fuel For best results, use only clean, fresh, regular grade unleaded gasoline with a pump sticker octane rating of 86 or higher.

Carburetor fixed jet with separate choke and fuel shut off solenoid. See Kohler Owner s Manual (TP-2548 Part Number 794511). ENGINE VALVE SERVICES Check and readjust Valve Clearance - Kohler: check every 200 hours. Have Kohler Engine Service Dealer perform this service. Honda 16HP: every year or 200 hours. See Honda 16HP Owners Manual (Honda Part Number 00X31-ZA-6000) or (Hustler Part ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Starter 12 volt. Note: Do not crank engine more than 5-seconds continuously. Let starter cool down for 10-seconds between starting attempts. Battery 12 volt, garden tractor size. BCI group UIR with 225 or better cranking AMP rating. A maintenance-free battery is recommended. Charging system Honda 16HP, 12 volt, 18 AMP, with regulator. Kohler 12 volt, 15 AMP, with regulator. COOLING SYSTEM Intake Screen Check cooling air intake screen and external surface of engine prior to each use or every 4 hours. Make sure they are clean and unobstructed. Engine Shrouds Inspect daily and check that the air cleaner components and all shrouds, equipment covers, and guards are in place and securely fastened.
General Service Information 4 AIR CLEANER SERVICE Precleaner Honda: check prior to each use. Wash the precleaner and let it dry (DO NOT APPLY OIL TO FOAM ELEMENT) every three months or 50 operating hours (more often under dusty or dirty conditions). Replace every two years or 300 hours. See Honda 16HP Owner s Manual (Honda Part Number 00X31-ZA-6000) or (Hustler Part Kohler: Precleaner not required. Paper Element Honda: clean the paper element every three months or 50 operating hours (more often under extremely dusty or dirty conditions). Replace the paper element every two years or 300 operating hours. 16HP Honda Part Number 17211-20A-003 or (Hustler Part Number 787226). Kohler: Clean every 25 hours or every season. Replace every 100 hours or every season (more often under dusty or dirty conditions). See Kohler Manual Part Number (TP-2537) or (Hustler Part Number 794511). HYDRAULIC SYSTEM The Hustler Mini FasTrak is equipped with two Hydro-Gear EZT integrated transmissions. The integrated transmissions are equipped with bypass valves. Repair should be performed by trained technicians only. Mini FasTrak transmissions are sealed and require no oil maintenance. LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Total number of grease fittings on tractor and deck (5). Grease every 50 hours or annually. Tractor (3) Deck Height Pivot s (2) Gauge Wheel Bearing BELTS Pump Drive Belt Inspect every 6 months or 100 hours and replace if worn or cracked. General Service Information 5 Deck Drive Belt Hustler Part Number 793828 (36 deck) or 793892 (42 deck). Check drive belt for wear and proper tension every 100 hours or annually. TORQUE VALUES Wheel nuts wheel lug nuts (4-per wheel). Torque to 65 ft. lbs. Note: It is recommended that these be checked after the first 2 hours of operation then every 100 hours or annually thereafter. Blade Spindle Bolts (top & bottom) Torque to 118 ft. lbs. Note: Must be maintained when blades are changed or as needed after blade impacts. Check blade bolt torque prior to each use. TIRE PRESSURE Drive tires and front tires 8 to 10 lbs. Check with a gauge weekly or every 50 hours.
