Operating Instructions & Parts Manual Please read and save these instructions. Read carefully before attempting to assemble, install, operate or maintain the product described. Protect yourself and others by observing all safety information. Failure to comply with instructions could result in personal injury and/or property damage! Retain instructions for future reference. Westward Heavy Duty Transmission Jacks Description Westward heavy duty hydraulic transmission jacks are designed for lifting and lowering of transmissions and differentials from various vehicles ie. car, truck, etc. Their super strong reinforced steel construction with flanged side frames provide extra strength. Load restraining chains help to assure the user s safety when lifting and lowering load. Four casters allow easy movement and easy positioning of transmission jack. The cradle has both side and tilting angle adjusting functions to best fit onto the different shape of various transmissions and differentials. Patented oil by-pass mechanism offers stroke limitation of ram piston. Durable rust-free enamel finish gives long-lasting quality appearance. Metered release valve assures precise adjustment of cradle height and smooth lowering of load. Specifications Min. Max. Model Capacity Height Height 1ZKY1 1,100 lb 9" 24-3 /4" 1ZKY3 2,000 lb 7 7 /8" 33-1 /4" General Safety Information Study, understand and follow all instructions before operating this device. Inspect jack before each use. Do not use if bent, broken, leaking or damaged components are noted. No alteration of this product is allowed. Lifting device only. Intended use is for removing, transporting and installing transmission or specified components only. Do not exceed rated capacity. Use only on hard, level surfaces capable of sustaining rated capacity loads. For your safety, do not exceed 10 o tilt angle of the saddle assembly in all directions. Do not lift or support a vehicle with a transmission jack. Immediately after lifting, support vehicle with appropriate means. Always wear safety goggles when using this equipment. Do not use this device for any purpose other than that for which it was intended. Failure to heed any one or combination of these warnings may result in severe personal injury and/or property damage. Assembly Refer to Figure 1 & 2. 1. Two pieces of aux. fixed bracket assembly and a one-piece handle should be included in package. 2. Attach either one of the two aux. fixed assemblies to the saddle, and secure by hex bolts and washers provided. Then apply the same procedure for the other assembly. 3. Occasionally hydraulic jacks become air bound and will not function properly. To correct this condition, remove oil filler plug. This will allow any pressurized air to escape. 4. Check for proper oil level (See adding oil, Page 2), adjust as needed. DO NOT OVERFILL. Reinstall oil filler plug. Operation Off-center loads and loads lifted while jack is not level may damage the jack or cause personal injury. Taking off transmission/ differential from vehicle 1. Close the release valve by turning the release knob clockwise. 2. Operate the jack by pumping the jack handle to desired height. 3. Adjust the saddle in side position and tilting angle to best fit to the shape of transmission/differential. 4. Secure the transmission/differential by chain and tighten properly. 5. After removing all of the appropriate bolts and fasteners which securing the load to vehicle, carefully position and lower the load to the lowest practical height. Move load to desired workplace. This is a lifting device only. The load must be supported immediately by other appropriate means. Putting Transmission/ differential into vehicle 1. Place transmission/differential on jack saddle and properly secure by chain. 2. Cautiously pump jack handle to lift up the transmission/differential to desired height. 3. After all securing bolts are properly fastened, open the release valve by turning release knob counterclockwise to lower the jack to minimum height. Avoid shock loads created by quickly opening and closing the release valve as the load is being lowered. Shock loads can create dangerously high operating pressures within the hydraulic system, causing system failure and resulting in personal injury and/or property damage. Westward Heavy Duty Transmission Jacks Maintenance IMPORTANT: Use only a good grade hydraulic jack oil such as Mobil DTE 13M or equivalent. Avoid mixing types of oil. Do not use break fluid, alcohol, glycerin, motor oil etc. Improper fluid can cause serious internal injury to the jack, rendering it inoperative. adding oil 1. Position the jack on level ground with saddle fully lowered, remove oil filler plug. 2. Oil level should be within 3 /8 of filler hole. DO NOT OVERFILL. If overfilled, the jack will not lower to published minimum height. If underfilled, the jack will not reach published maximum height. Adjust fluid level as needed. Always reinstall oil filler plug before use. Changing oil 1. For best performance and longest unit life, replace the complete oil supply at least once a year. 2. To drain the oil, remove the filler plug. 3. Lay the jack on its side and allow the oil to run out into suitable drain pan. Dispose of hydraulic oil in accordance with local regulations. 4. BE CAREFUL to prevent dirt or foreign matter from entering the system. 5. Replace with proper oil as described above. Lubrication Add lubricating oil to all pivoting sections every 3 months. Preventing rust 1. Check ram and piston for signs of rust on a regular basis. Clean as needed with an oily cloth. 2. When not in use, store jack with saddle and piston fully retracted. Troubleshooting Chart Symptom Possible Cause(s) Corrective Action Jack will not lift load 1. Release valve not tightly closed 1. Ensure release valve tightly closed 2. Overload condition 2. Remedy overload condition Jack will lift but not maintain pressure 1. Same as above 1. Same as above 2. Hydraulic unit malfunctioning 2. Replace Jack will not lower after unloading 1. Reservoir overfilled 1. Drain fluid to proper level 2. Linkages binding 2. Clean and lubricate moving parts Poor lift performance 1. Fluid level low 1. Ensure proper fluid level 2. Air trapped in system 2. With ram fully retracted, remove oil filler plug to let pressurized air escape, reinstall oil filler plug Will not lift to full height Fluid level low Ensure proper fluid level 2
