INSTALLATION The valve must be disassembled prir t installatin t prevent damage t sft gds during welding. Item numbers are shwn in the parts diagrams, Figure 1 and Figure 2. 1.1. Valve Disassembly The valve has been factry calibrated and set t ensure prper fail safe peratin. Befre prceeding, mark ne f the wrench flats at the tp f the Valve Stem (5) with a marker s it can be returned t the factry settings. On fail-clsed peratrs, apply air pressure t the psitiner and set the valve t apprximately 50% pen. Lsen the Operatr Shaft Jam Nut (52). Turn the Stem t remve it frm the Operatr (51) shaft. Cunt and dcument the number f revlutins made by the marked wrench flat. Lsen the Operatr Yke frm the Bnnet as fllws: Fr ½ t 4" NPS valves, remve the Operatr Yke Jam Nut (54) by turning it cunterclckwise. Fr 6" t 8" NPS valves, remve the Operatr Yke Blts (55). Lift the Operatr ff f the Bnnet (10) and carefully set it aside. Fr ½ t 4 NPS valves, als remve the Operatr Yke Adapter (58) and set it aside. Remve the Bnnet Blts (11). Pull Bnnet vertically upward until the tp f the Barrel (21) is expsed. NOTIC: Printed cpies are uncntrlled. Page 2 f 12
Carefully grasp the Barrel s that it will nt drp back int the Valve Bdy, which can damage the PCTF Seal Disc (36). Remve the Stem frm the slt in the Barrel and set the Bnnet and Stem assembly aside. Remve the Barrel (which has the plug assembly attached; parts 31-38) frm Valve Bdy (1). Remve Bnnet Face O-Ring (15) and stre in a clean area until ready t reassemble. CAUTION: Assembly may cntain equipment plated with nickel. Cleaning with acids r ther caustic slutins will remve plating and vid warranty. 1.2. Welding Prepare cnnectin n equipment n which valve will be installed. Psitin Valve Bdy t equipment and weld in place. CAUTION: All Valve Bdies are 304L Stainless Steel. Therefre, care shuld be taken nt t ver-heat Valve Bdy beynd that required fr nrmal welding. CAUTION: When the valve is t be installed in a vacuum jacketed system, care shuld be taken in the jacket design t prevent frces n the Bnnet f the Valve caused by differential cntractin rates (thermal lads) between the inner prcess line and the vacuum jacket. Cntact PHPK fr assistance. 1.3. Valve Reassembly Allw Valve Bdy t cl after welding. Clean Bnnet Face O-Ring and the O-Ring grve n the Valve Bdy. Apply a very thin film f Halcarbn 25-5S r Krytx 1 Grease t the -ring and replace in grve. 1 Krytx is a registered trademark f DuPnt. Reassemble valve in reverse rder f instructin given in Sectin 1.1. During reassembly, Bnnet Blts shuld be tightened as listed in Table 1. 2. OPRATION The Operatr and Valve have been pre-adjusted t ensure bubble-tight shut-ff f the valve at the seat up t 1.25 times the custmer-supplied design pressure rating. N further adjustments shuld be required. The valve is designed t perate smthly under all crygenic cnditins. All mving and cntacting parts have clsely-held tlerances fr free peratin. The self-aligning, tapered plug cntains a replaceable PCTF Seal Disc fr psitive shut-ff. The Bnnet O-Ring Seals, Barrel O-Rings, and Seal Disc are the nly replaceable wear items. 3. MAINTNANC With prper care, the Valve Assembly shuld require very little maintenance; hwever, as with all crygenic equipment, thrugh inspectin f the system shuld be perfrmed peridically t ensure cntinued, reliable peratin. 3.1. O-Ring Replacement 3.1.1. Gland Nut O-Rings Gland Nut O-Rings (7,8) can be replaced by first remving the Operatr per Sectin 1.1 instructins. Remve the Gland Nut (6) frm Stem by turning Gland Nut cunterclckwise and sliding it ff the end f the Stem. Remve O-Rings frm Gland Nut, taking care nt t damage the O-Ring grves during remval. Clean O-Ring grves. Apply a very thin film f Halcarbn 25-5S r Krytx Grease t the new O-Rings and install them. Reassemble the Valve in reverse rder f this sectin's instructins. 3.1.2. Bnnet Face O-Ring The Bnnet Face O-Ring (15) can be replaced by first remving the Bnnet per the instructins given in Sectin 1.1. Remve O-Ring frm Bnnet Face, taking care nt t damage the O-Ring grve during remval. Clean O-Ring grve. Apply a very thin film f Halcarbn 25-5S r Krytx Grease t the new O-Ring and install it. Reassemble valve per Sectin 1.3 instructins. 3.1.3. Barrel O-Ring The Barrel O-Rings (22) can be replaced by first remving the Barrel (21) and plug assembly per the instructins given in Sectin 1.1. Clean O-Ring grves. Install the new O-Rings. New Barrel O-Rings must be split (cut in ne lcatin with a razr) prir t installatin. If the O-Ring ends verlap, a secnd cut is necessary t make the O-Ring lay flat in the grve. D nt use grease n the Barrel O-Ring. Reassemble valve per Sectin 1.3 instructins. 3.2. Seal Disc Replacement 3.2.1. Fr ½ 2 Valves The Seal Disc (36) is replaced by first remving the Barrel (21) and plug assembly per Sectin 1.1 instructins. Next remve the Retainer Bdy (35) frm the Retainer Lck Nut (34) by hlding the Retainer Lck Nut and turning Retainer Bdy cunterclckwise until they separate. Insert the PHPK Seal Disc Tl (91) int the Seal Disc and remve it frm the Retainer Bdy by turning in the directin indicated n the Seal Disc Tl. Install the new Seal Disc nt the Retainer Bdy using the Seal Disc Tl. The Seal Disc will bttm ut n the Retainer Bdy. Snug hand-tight withut causing any defrmatin arund the fur hles in the face f the Seal Disc. Snug the Retainer Lck Nut Plug (33) hand-tight nt the Barrel using a ¼ Allen wrench. Slide the Retainer Lck Nut back and verify the Plug Retainer Nut (31) is hand-tight against the Retainer Ring (32). Install the Retainer Bdy nt the Retainer Lck Nut by hlding the Retainer Lck Nut and turning the Retainer Bdy clckwise until its face bttms ut against the Retainer Lck Nut. 3.2.2. Fr 3 8 Valves The Seal Disc (36) is replaced by first remving the Barrel (21) and plug assembly per Sectin 1.1 instructins. Next use tw PHPK Spanner Wrenches (92). Place ne Spanner Wrench n the Retainer Lck Nut (34) and the ther n the Retainer Bdy (35). Hld the Retainer Lck Nut still and turn the Retainer Bdy cunterclckwise until they separate. Remve the Seal Disc Supprt (37) frm the Retainer Bdy by remving the Seal Disc Supprt Screws (38) with a 3/16 Allen wrench. CAUTION: Care shuld be taken nt t damage sealing serratins in the Seal Disc Supprt. Remve and replace the Seal Disc. The bevel n the utside diameter f the Seal Disc must be riented as shwn in Figure 1. Install the Seal Disc Supprt and tighten all f the Seal Disc Supprt Screws hand-tight. Trque all f the screws t 90 in-lbs (7.5 ft-lbs). Slide the Retainer Lck Nut back and verify the Plug Retainer Nut (31) is hand-tight against the Retainer Ring (32). Install the Retainer Bdy nt the Retainer Lck Nut by hlding the Retainer Lck Nut and turning the Retainer Bdy clckwise until it seats against the Retainer Lck Nut. Use the tw PHPK Spanner Wrenches t snug the Retainer Bdy t the Retainer Lck Nut. Reassemble the Valve per Sectin 1.3 instructins. 3.3. Operatr Adjustment 3.3.1. Fail Clsed Valves Temprarily apply lading pressure t mve actuatr stem in upward psitin. Lsen Operatr Shaft Jam Nut (52) and screw Valve Stem (5) int Operatr shaft until the Stem stps turning. Remve lading pressure frm actuatr allwing vale stem t mve dwn int valve. Screw Stem cunterclckwise t mve stem dwn int valve. This shuld be dne until resistance is met. (This shuld be the PCTF seal disc cming int cntact with the valve seat). Supply lading pressure nce again t the actuatr t lift the valve stem upward. Screw the Stem 2 cmplete rtatins cunterclckwise adjusting the valve stem dwnwards; then snug Operatr Shaft Jam Nut. NOTIC: Printed cpies are uncntrlled. Page 6 f 12
Remve lading pressure frm actuatr; then actuate actuatr 4 t 5 times. Check valve seat sealing by applying pressure t main prcess line t insure bubble-tight shut-ff. At this pint, valve shuld be ready fr service. (If valve des nt seat bubble-tight, cntinue t next step). Apply lading pressure nce again t the actuatr t lift the valve stem upwards. Lsen Operatr Shaft Jam Nut and screw the Stem 1 cmplete rtatin cunterclckwise adjusting the stem dwnward, then snug Operatr Shaft Jam Nut and remve lading pressure. Actuate actuatr 4 t 5 times and recheck valve fr bubble-tight shut-ff. (This prcess can be repeated a maximum f 3 times). If valve des nt shut-ff bubble-tight at this pint, please cntact PHPK Technlgies. 3.3.2. Fail Open Valves Remve any lading pressure frm the actuatr stem t mve in upward psitin. Lsen Operatr Shaft Jam Nut (52) and screw Valve Stem (5) clckwise int Operatr shaft until the Stem stps turning. Apply lading pressure frm actuatr allwing vale stem t mve dwn int valve. Screw Stem cunterclckwise t mve stem dwn int valve. This shuld be dne until resistance is met. (This shuld be the PCTF seal disc cming int cntact with the valve seat). 4. PRSSUR RATINGS PV-70 valves frm ½ t 8 NPS are designed fr a maximum allwable wrking pressure (MAWP) f 600 psig fr temperatures up t 120 F. Valves are individually tested t the custmer-specified required pressure. Nt all valves are tested t the MAWP. 5.
