NZQF NQ Ref 1118 Version 2 Page 2 of 7 (Sub Station Maintainer) (Level 4) Level 4 Credits 140 Purpose This national certificate is awarded to people who have demonstrated competence in the skills and knowledge required for employment in the electricity supply industry as a Sub Station Maintainer. It provides entry into the National Diploma in (Level 5) [Ref: 0674]. It caters for trainees within this industry whose primary role is carrying out maintenance activities on the primary plant and equipment installed in high voltage electricity sub stations. Holders of the qualification will be able to: Joint electricity network overhead conductors Carry out in-service visual inspections on sub station equipment and auxiliary plant Carry out routine inspections and servicing of power transformers, distribution power transformers, high voltage minimum and bulk oil circuit breakers, pole mounted recloser circuit breakers, high voltage indoor metal clad circuit breakers and bus Carry out routine inspections and servicing on sub station emergency and security services Install sub station earthing and bonding system Carry out routine service on instrument transformers, and routine inspection and minor servicing on high voltage SF6 outdoor circuit breakers Service and repair high voltage disconnectors, earth switches and bus equipment Apply and remove safety measures in an electricity supply environment Use and maintain test instruments used within the high voltage electrical industry. Carry out insulating oil sampling and voltage breakdown tests. The qualification contains unit standards that build on the knowledge and skills recognised by the (Electrical) (Level 4) [Ref: 0921], National Certificate in (Mechanical Fitter) (Level 4) with strands in Hydro, Networks, and Thermal; and an optional strand in Electrical Services [Ref: 0918], and (Electrical Services Technician) (Level 3) [Ref: 1098]. Award of NQF Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in the Qualifications Authority Rules and Procedures publications available at www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/. Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (Id). Any version of a standard with the same Id may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the Id and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
