This pump is not submersible! Do not get the motor wet. 2. The pump must be filled with water before operation. Running the pump dry may damage the shaft seal. 3. Do not lift pump by power cord. 4. Do not touch an operating motor housing. The motor is designed to operate at high temperatures. 5. Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids such as oil, gasoline, kerosene, ethanol, etc. Do not use in the presence of flammable or explosive vapors. Using this pump with or near flammable liquids can cause an explosion or fire, resulting in property damage, serious personal injury and/or death. 6. Do not disassemble the motor housing. The motor has NO repairable internal parts, and disassembling it may cause dangerous electrical wiring issues. 7. This pump is made of high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials. It will provide trouble-free service for a long time when properly installed, maintained, and used. However, inadequate electrical power to the pump, dirt, or debris may cause the pump to fail. Please carefully read the manual and follow the instructions regarding common pump problems and remedies. 8. Know the pump applications, limitations, and potential hazards. 9. Make certain the electrical power source is adequate for the requirements of the pump. 10. ALWAYS disconnect the power to the pump before servicing. 11. Release all pressure and drain all water from the system before servicing any component. 12. Secure discharge line before starting pump. An unsecured discharge line will whip, possibly causing personal injury and/or property damage. 13. This unit is not a submersible pump. It cannot be used under water or exposed to water. Personal injury or death will result. 14. Check that all pipe connections are tight to minimize leaks. Small leaks in suction line greatly reduce efficiency of pump and may prevent priming. 15. Connect the pump DIRECTLY to a grounded, GFCI outlet. 16. Ensure that the electrical circuit to the pump is protected by a15 Amp fuse or circuit breaker. 17. Periodically inspect the pump and system components to be sure the pump inlets are free of mud, sand, and debris. DISCONNECT THE PUMP FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE INSPECTING. 2
18. Wear safety glasses at all times when working with pumps. 19. Follow all local electrical and safety codes, along with the National Electrical Code (NEC). In addition, all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines must be followed. 20. This unit is designed only for use on 115 volts (single phase), 60 Hz, and is equipped with an approved 3-conductor cord and 3-prong grounded plug. DO NOT REMOVE THE GROUND PIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The 3-prong plug must be directly inserted into a properly installed and grounded 3-prong, grounding-type receptacle. Do not use this pump with a 2-prong wall outlet. Replace the 2-prong outlet with a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle (a GFCI outlet) installed in accordance with your local codes and ordinances. All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician. 21. Protect the electrical cord from sharp objects, hot surfaces, oil, and chemicals. Avoid kinking the cord. Do not use damaged or worn cords. 22. Failure to comply with instruction and designed operation of this unit, may void warranty. ATTEMPTING TO USE A DAMAGED PUMP can result property damage, serious personal injury and/or death. 23. The motor of this pump has a thermal protector that will trip if the motor becomes too hot. The protector will resetitself once the motor cools down and an acceptable temperature has been reached. The pump may startunexpectedly if it is plugged in. 24. Before using the pump, check hose for holes or excess wear, which could cause leaks, and be sure hose is not kinked or making sharp angles. A straight hose allows the pump to move the greatest amount of water quickly, and also check that all hose connections are tight to minimize leaks. PRE-INSTALLATION APPLICATION This self-priming portable utility pump is designed to pump water from flooded basements, watering lawns and gardens, draining water heaters, boosting water pressure for washing vehicles and other applications, where moving water from one location to another is needed. This pump is not a submersible utility pump. The motor is air cooled. It s not allowed to expose the motor to water. NOTE: This pump is not intended for permanent installation or long time of continuous operation. TOOLS REQUIRED Flathead Screwdriv Phillips Screwdriver Wrench Safety Goggles 3
MATERIALS REQUIRED (NOT INCLUDED) Garden Hose or Hose kit Suction Strainer SPECIFICATIONS Power supply Liquid temp. range Discharge size 115V, 60 HZ., 15 Amp Circuit 32 to 77 F (0-25 C) 3/4 in. garden hose thread INSTALLATION CAUTION:Always disconnect power source before attempting to install, service, or maintain the pump. Never handle a pump with wet hands or when standing on wet or damp surface or in water. Fatal electrical shock could occur. 1. The following picture shows a typical installation. Threaded adaptors are furnished for attaching garden hose where conditions permit its use. The suction lift of this unit can get up to 25 feet. If it is necessary, a check valve or a foot valve may be installed at the inlet of the suction hose to prevent flow backwards through pump when pump shuts off. 2. The inlet line may be rigid pipe or reinforced garden hose. A regular garden hose cannot be used as the suction inlet hose. NOTICE: Ordinary garden hose will collapse under suction pressure and should not be used in the inlet but for pressure boosting only. 4
3. Use a strainer (sold separately) when pumping from a pond, or source where foreign objects may be sucked into the pump. The strainer should prevent solids from entering the inlet line. 4. A regular garden hose may be used as a discharge line. OPERATION NOTICE: Pump must be filled with water before operation. Running the pump dry will cause damage to the shaft seal. 1. This unit is not waterproof or weatherproof and is not intended to be used in showers, saunas, or other potentially wet locations. The motor is designed to be used in a clean, dry location with access to adequate cooling air. Ambient temperatures around the motor should not exceed 104 F (40 C). 2. Remove priming plug and fill with water. Close and tighten the plug. 3. Plug power cord into GFCI protected electrical outlet. The pump will prime in a few minutes depending on suction line length. Use of foot valve on suction line is recommended. 4. In the case of pressure boosting, turn water on before starting pump. Then, plug power cord into GFCI protected electrical outlet. 5. Unplug the cord before all the water is completely gone. 5
CARE AND CLEANING WARNING! Procedures not specifically explained in this manual must be performed only by a qualified technician. To prevent serious injury from accidental operation: Unplug the pump from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. To prevent serious injury from pump failure: Do not use damaged equipment. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. 1. BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the pump. Check for loose screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. 2. After use, clean external surfaces of the pump with clean cloth. 3. Carbon Brush Maintenance. The carbon brushes should be inspected after 150 hours operation, as the motor performance of the pump may decrease or stop working completely. To maintain the brushes: a. Remove the brush cap on each side of the motor housing. b. Remove the worn off carbon brushes from the housing. c. Insert the new carbon brushes. d. When installing the carbon brushes, make sure the carbon portions of the carbon brushes contact the motor armature, and that the springs face away from the motor. Also, make sure the springs operate freely. e. Replace the brush caps. Do not over tighten. NOTE: New carbon brushes tend to spark when first used until they wear and conform to the motor s armature. WARNING: If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced only by a qualified service technician. 6
