1. System Description The PAC ViscoPro 2100 Transmitter is designed to determine the viscosity of fluids including in a compact, robust and easy-to-install package. The applications for CVI s technology range from Biomedical and Optical Coatings to Petrochemical and Refinery Applications. The compact, robust sensor provides continuous viscosity readings even in extremely difficult environments. The sensor s design makes it insensitive to changes in flow, vibrations, shocks, and significant process disruptions. The results obtained correlate to the ASTM D7483 and ASTM D445 test methods. The fast and reliable measurements allow for precise and continuous adjustment of the process, while maintaining a high correlation to laboratory quality control results. Applications Viscosity is a variable in nearly all fluid dynamic equations. The ViscoPro 2100 specializes in repeatable viscosity measurements in difficult applications such as asphalts, HFO and vacuum residual streams in the Petroleum industry, while also providing the precision measurement in the compact package required for biomedical, optical and specialized coating applications. Additionally, the unique sensor design is the only technology small enough to provide a viscosity measurement in the refrigeration, and engine lubricant industry. 2. Theory of Operation The ViscoPro 2100 utilizes a patented sensor technology that sets it apart from other viscometer manufacturers, making it the worldwide leader in small sample viscosity. It uses only one moving part, a piston, driven electromagnetically through fluid in a small measurement chamber. A deflector, positioned over the piston, moves fluid into the measurement chamber, while two coils move the piston back and forth at a constant force. Proprietary circuitry analyzes its two-way travel time to measure absolute viscosity. Every ViscoPro 2100 uses one of these sensors ensuring that every viscometer is the most accurate and reliable it can be. Furthermore, since all wetted parts are stainless steel and the piston is in constant motion, the sampling area is continually scrubbed clean. In addition to the sensor itself, each viscometer includes a built-in temperature detector that senses the actual temperature in the measurement chamber in order to determine a temperature-compensated viscosity (TCV) reading.
