A new approach. At times, technical revolutions, which have enormous impact, derive from a stunningly simple idea. A brilliant example is the new T 20 SP/T 24 SP electric pallet truck with rider platform launched by Linde. Locating the operating position at an angle of 45 to the direction of travel minimises physical body movement when changing travel direction. As a result, the operator maintains a comfortable driving posture with unobstructed all-round visibility. The functional ergonomics are immediately apparent on accessing the spacious operator s platform via the wide, low step entry. A key innovation on the T 20 SP/T 24 SP is the e-driver control handle. The e indicates electronic, as well as ergonomic efficiency. All control functions are integrated in a central control pod, which is designed for easy single-handed steering when travelling in the 45 posture or with two hands when depositing or picking up loads. Pallet handling is exceptionally precise with seamless control of every manoeuvre. Ergonomically and proportionally designed, the steering and control pod affords full protection for the operator s hands with plenty of space for gloved hands. The spacious stand-on platform is protected by a rugged wraparound steel profile to safely absorb collision impacts. Feet and ankles are additionally protected by a steel platform surround. With its flexible 3 kw AC drive motor, the T 20 SP/T 24 SP adapts easily and rapidly to every handling situation. The truck accelerates smoothly and progressively to 10 km/h in less than 5 metres. With its high torque traction motor and smooth electronic control, loading docks and 13% gradients are negotiated with ease even when fully laden. The truck s performance parameters (acceleration, speed and deceleration) can be tuned to precisely match the customer s application requirements. Operation on loading docks and ramps demands powerful traction and efficient braking. Batteries with capacities from 180 to 620 Ah are available for the T 20 SP/T 24 SP. Equipped with an appropriately sized battery, the truck can work through up to two shifts without the need to recharge or change the battery. The T 20 SP/T 24 SP accelerates responsively to top travel speed and automatic electric braking decelerates the truck smoothly and rapidly as the butterfly traction lever is released. When parked on a gradient, the truck can be started without rolling back. Additionally, the electro-magnetic parking brake is applied automatically when the operator steps off the driving platform. The brake actuation is proportional to the load carried and can also be operated by the emergency circuit isolator. In a modern warehouse operation, the load handling cycles are repeated hundreds of times over. The T 20 SP/T 24 SP optimises each cycle; all with the goal of making the task easier, more economical and more productive. Loading and unloading delivery vehicles usually involves transfer runs of less than 40 metres. Manoeuvrability with smooth, efficient acceleration and deceleration characteristics is vital.
