Protection & Control / Commissioning Engineer Are you ready to be a technology pioneer? Tasks ABB Inc. seeks an experienced Protection and Control / Commissioning Engineer to support both Protection & Control engineering, and commissioning activities in the office and at the site. You ll work as part of our Power Grids team, which serves utility, industrial, and commercial customers with products and services to help distribute electricity efficiently and reliably, maintain power quality, and control and manage electrical networks. Typical duties/responsibilities for sales may include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for the coordination, implementation and commissioning of protection, control, communication and monitoring systems for Air Insulated and Gas Insulated substation projects including but not limited to 13.8kV 550kV range with an emphasis on project safety, cost, quality and reliability. Must be familiar with the nuances associated with the engineering and design of protection, control, communication and monitoring systems for AIS substations (as a minimum), but preferably also GIS substations. The main purpose of this position is to provide engineering, design, installation, commissioning support and commissioning services and of electrical protection, control, communication and monitoring systems for transmission & distribution substations and switchyards, both AIS and GIS type. Typical Protection & Control Engineer duties/responsibilities: Ability to provide on-site assessment and evaluation of existing protection, control, monitoring, and communication equipment that is to be replaced, out-dated, damaged, neglected, etc., and then provide proposal estimates based on the on-site assessment and evaluation reports. energization stages of AIS and GIS substation projects with strict adherence to the project requirements, including, but not limited to: Prepare Protection and Control engineering estimates and estimate P&C equipment quantities and costs for proposals Development of Protection & Control Application philosophy Recommend and/or select the required protection devices for the substation / switchyard configuration Substation / switchyard, both AIS and GIS, protection and metering single-line diagrams Alternate Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) Schematic diagrams Mark-ups of existing substation schematic and wiring removal drawings (as applicable) SCADA points signal list Equipment specifications and associated documentation reviews Prepare cable list and equipment point-to-point list Control & Instrument Cable requirements Create or support commissioning engineer with Field Inspection & Test Plans (FITPs) Short circuit studies and reviews Protection coordination analysis Relay setting development Directly participate or support from the office field testing and commissioning services Coordinate with, and monitor, vendor technical compliance and witness factory acceptance testing as applicable. Notify the project lead engineer of any difficulties encountered in the engineering and design that may adversely impact safety, reliability, quality, cost, or schedule of the ABB project deliverables, and provide recommendations for solutions. Prepare, update and support the project execution P&C engineering activities in the schedule with emphasis on; On-time delivery, Quality of deliverables and Project costs. Travel to project site as required, including, but not limited to: Customer kick-off meetings Construction, installation, commissioning and energization field support On-site testing of new, refurbished, updated, or modified equipment before being put into operation. Perform technical, cost savings, and constructability reviews of P&C design packages from internal engineering, 2 Protection & Control / Commissioning Engineer

outsourced sub-contractor engineering and P&C panel suppliers to ensure they are in general compliance with the applicable project guidelines, customer specifications, governing standards, and sound engineering judgment before subjecting them to the approval procedures. The P&C design packages for review may include: Panel layout drawings Bill of Materials Control Logic diagrams Wiring diagrams Communication / Fiber optic drawings Interconnection diagrams Control cable termination lists Cable lists Adhere to ABB Power Systems - Substations quality processes and document control procedures to ensure design documents are complete and accurate. Assist the Director of Engineering in meeting department goals. Practice ABB ethic core values. Typical Commissioning Engineer duties/responsibilities: Commissioning and testing of substation automation systems, including relays, annunciators, RTU s, substation computers, communication gateways, and substation LAN s, for AIS and GIS substations with voltages from 4.16 kv to 765 kv Commissioning and testing of substation auxiliary low voltage distribution system, battery chargers and battery banks Provide support and input to protection and control engineers related to the enhancements of the protection and control applications, philosophies and designs Recommends enhancement and/or improvement to relay settings and logic to the protection engineer during commissioning. Any relay setting or logic change must be approved by the protection and control engineer of record Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of processes and/or procedures Develop project specific testing and commissioning procedures as per customer requirements and NETA Standard Participate as a member of project teams to assist in the development of the project schedule for construction and outages, and provide technical guidance for testing and commissioning activities Coordinate and organize testing and commissioning effort at site with contractors that ABB may use 3 Protection & Control / Commissioning Engineer

Coordinate test equipment shipping to and from site. Assist the Substation Commissioning Manager in meeting department goals Heavy interface with customers, and customer reps and test departments Requirements Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering -AND- Minimum of five (5) years of technical high voltage systems substations experience, including minimum of two (2) years of field experience with installation, commissioning and energization of high voltage substations. Ideally this role could be filled at a more senior level should the candidate meet the following qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering -AND- Minimum of eight years of technical high voltage systems substations experience, including minimum of four (4) years of field experience with installation, commissioning and energization of high voltage substations. Preferred Qualifications MSEE is preferred. Professional Engineering registration is desirable. Basic knowledge of applicable Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) / American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standards is required, as well as experience with protective relays classified as Intelligent Electronic Devices. Knowledge of Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, SKM or other similar protection software tool is desired. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, AutoCAD & MicroStation is a plus. Ability to clearly communicate with ABB, vendor, sub-contractor and Customer personnel in order to successfully collaborate, coordinate, and resolve project related activities and issues. Problems involve recognizing situations and applying appropriate concepts to solve problems that are usually short-term in nature. Basic conversation skills and normal tact and courtesy are required. Understanding on the functionalities of Electrical Protection, Control systems, Substation Automation systems and SCADA/Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) systems Familiar with the design, integration, installation and testing of electrical control and protection systems for generation, transmission and distribution systems Comprehends the benefits of modern Substation Automation communication standards and protocols (e.g. IEC 61850, DNP 3.0) Understands ABB and non-abb protective relay devices and remote terminal units Action oriented, attention to detail, communicate effectively, decision making, manage projects, problem solving, technical orientation, teamwork Travel is required; 40-85% both domestic and international.
