Road transport market, sustainability and digitalization Distribution and Logistics Services Mika-Matti Rapo Finnish Transport and Logistics SKAL

Finnish Transport and Logistics SKAL ~5,200 company members ~65 % of licensed hauliers Member company profile: 50 % single vehicle operators 40 % operates with 2 3 trucks EUR 6 billion annual turnover of commercial goods traffic by road in FINLAND Expert organization established in 1936 Represents businesses providing road haulage and logistical services @SKALry @ smetrabxl Staff of 50 specialists in SKAL head office, regional offices and branch organizations Leading Joint mission of 8 Finnish associations in Brussels with Permanent Representative and 2 specialists 2

Finnish haulage company characteristics Close to 9,000 operators Some 100,000 employees Typically owner-driver companies Moderate net sales, low profitability Modest digitalization rate Labour costs dominate cost structure and still Huge potential in terms of: Digitalization Logistics systems development Energy-efficiency Clean tech, smart solutions and networking 3

Logistics is one of EU s key drivers Source: MOVE 4

EU Mobility Package Clean Mobility CONSEQUENCE: European transport market is expected to carry a heavy load in CO 2 reduction targets. 6 Source: MOVE

EU s Clean Mobility targets includes, among others: New CO 2 standards for vehicle manufacturers - targets for 2025 and 2030 pushing transition from conventional combustionengine vehicles to clean ones Clean Vehicles Directive to guide public procurement towards clean solutions Various actions to boost investments for alternative fuels infrastructure Battery initiative to support the innovation and production of vehicles and other future mobility solutions in the EU Source: MOVE 7

Finland s challenge towards 2030: CO 2 emissions 12,9 M tons 6,5 M tons Individual heavy goods traffic companies are expected to take measures to reach the target, supported by transport policymaking: Increasing use of renewable and bio fuels (liquid bio fuels and bio gas, second generation renewable diesel from waste and residues) Potential cut in greenhouse emissions: 2 M t (VTT-VATT 2015) when absolute share of bio fuels 33 % Additional cost for hauliers compared to regular Diesel: 130 233 MEUR / year (VTT 2016) Vehicle weights and dimensions carry a great impact: Adding combination length with light containers - two 40 ft containers in one combination fuel sacing up to 40 % / container (Source: Transport Safety Agency) SKAL: Keep up Finland s competitiveness! 8

Hauliers smart choices in driving, fleet and maintenance Predictive driving Following the traffic Avoiding unnecessary braking and speeding 89 km/h 80 km/h = fuel consumption 9 % Predictive maintenance Motor, wheels Smart vehicle choice Low emissions, optimized for the job Predictive cruise control and rolling driving technique - 3 % 9

Hauliers smart choices in managing the company Smart planning of transport routes and schedules Maximized utilization and filling degree supported by ecmr Eliminating haste Driver training Predictive, climate smart driving Controlling fuel consumption Measuring carbon footprint Using renewable / bio fuels Considering alternative driving forces if feasible Deriving volume benefits through optimized vehicle weights and dimensions! 10

Mobile application family for the whole transport chain including ecmr, real time carbon footprint and ADR guidance Benefits to the transport chain: Tool for electronic execution of road transport operations CO 2 calculating in real time, automated and accurate In ADR transports Instructing vehicle loading, labeling and safety precautions

MobiCarnet fullfills ecmr standard MobiCarnet TM is designed to serve the logistics chain the full potential is in use when the logistics chain is totally digital Currently 14 countries have ratified The ecmr convention, including Czech Republic, Denmark, Baltic countries, the Netherlands and Spain. Finland is preparing the ratification. We are looking for improved safety, energy-efficiency, transparency and cost-efficiency of the logistics process and market is expecting ecmr. SKAL: MobiCarnet is the solution! CMR = standardized document for cross-border transport of cargo by road, based on UN recommendations ecmr = electronic consignment note standard 13

MobiCarnet TM service pricing Start-up licence 90 per 3 months 1-5 users 120 per month 6-10 users 180 per month. >10 users 240 per month Driver application 5 per month 14

How the system works 1 Haulier receives order for transport 6 CO 2 - calculator activates 7 If necessary, MobiADR instructs driver in vehicle loading and labeling 2 Order fed into MC identifying driver and fleet unit, incl. info of amount and quality of cargo 5 Loading. After loading driver updates status of transport into MC? 8 During transport driver updates transport status into MC 3 MC signal to driver 4 Driver checks transport assignment 9 Unloading. We now know cargo and transport specific CO 2 emissions 15
