July 2004 ATTENTION: SUBJECT: VEHICLES AFFECTED: SERVICE MANAGERS / PARTS MANAGERS CUMMINS ISM ENGINE WITH TEXACO EXTENDED LIFE COOLANT. CERTAIN AUTOCAR WX, WXR AND WXLL MODEL VEHICLES DELIVERED BETWEEN JULY 2003 AND JUNE 2004, VIN NUMBER RANGE 200013 TO 200564. SERVICE PROGRAM INFORMATION: Service Programs are product modifications that Autocar has determined should be performed on all vehicles affected, proactively. It is preferred that the modification takes place prior to a failure. The expense related to this Service Program will be eligible for warranty recovery based on the published program standard labor time and required parts. Service Programs do expire. Reimbursement will not be available for claims submitted after the expiration date published on the Service Program. It has come to our attention that certain WX, WXLL, and WXR trucks with ISM engines and Texaco Extended Life coolant did not have the factory charge of silicate in the cooling system. A non-silicate filter was installed requiring 8 ounces of part number 20447974 silicate to be added to the coolant. Without this silicate damage to engine sealing gaskets can occur prematurely. NUMBER of VEHICLES AFFECTED: There are 139 vehicles with serial numbers in the range 200013 to 200564. Please see Pages 4 & 5 for a listing of the trucks affected by this Service Program. NOTE: To verify or determine if a particular vehicle is affected by this Service Program, you should consult the Service/Warranty screen. By entering the Vehicle Identification Number into the VIN Profile, the screen will display any outstanding Service Program(s) and/or outstanding recall(s). If the Service Program number does not appear in the VIN Profile then it has been completed. INSPECTION INSTRUCTIONS: There is no inspection for this Service Program. Page 1 of 5

REPAIR: To correct the condition add 8 ounces of part # 20447974 to the coolant surge tank. Remember that extended life coolant requires no DCA. The filter should not have a DCA charge or silicate charge with Texaco Extended Life Coolant. PLEASE see the Cummins Application Engineering Bulletin on Page 3 for further details. TIME ALLOWANCE: Repair: - 0.5 hours per vehicle PARTS: 1 only 20447974 - Silicate Additive 8 ounces CLAIMS FOR CREDIT: Expenses associated with the performance of this Service Program will be reimbursed based on the guidelines identified in this Bulletin, and by submitting a claim following published Instructions in the claim preparation section of the "Service Operations Manual". CLAIM CODING INFORMATION: Authorization Number: - Repair: - 26010-2-01 0.5 hours per vehicle Expiration Date: - July 31, 2005 DEALER RESPONSIBILITY: Dealers are to perform the Service Program on all vehicles subject to the Service Program at no charge to the owner regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership as long as the repair is carried out before the expiration date of the program unless stated otherwise in this bulletin. Whenever a vehicle subject to this Service Program is taken into or is in your vehicle inventory or dealership for service, we strongly recommend you make every effort to perform the Service Program correction before the vehicle is sold or released to the owner. Cummins Application Engineering Bulletin Subject This AEB is for the following applications: Extended Life Coolant and Coolant Filters for ISX and ISM Engines Automotive Industrial G-Drive Date June 2002 Page 1 of 1 AEB Number 90.44 Engine Models included: ISM, ISM02, ISX, and ISX02 When using an extended life coolant, the coolant filter needs to be properly matched with the coolant. Cummins offers extended service interval coolant filters that are for use with extended life coolants. Silicate free carboxylate based (OAT-organic additive technology) extended life coolants based on EH (ethylhexanoic acid) need to have silicate in the formula (as manufactured) or silicate added for these engines. Products meeting this description include but are not limited to Rotella Extended Life Coolant and Texaco Extended Life Coolant. Consultant your coolant supplier if you have questions. For Rotella Extended Life Coolant and Texaco Extended Life Coolant or any other private label product using this or a similar formula, a coolant filter that has silicate paste or no additive (zero unit) coolant filter must be used. If a silicate paste coolant filter is used then no silicate fluid is needed (and must not be used) for adding to the cooling system at initial fill. This is only true for coolant systems up to 15 gallons. For larger size cooling systems consult your coolant supplier. If a no additive (zero unit) coolant filter is used then silicate fluid must be added to the cooling system at initial fill. For the amount of silicate fluid consult your coolant supplier. Fleetguard ES coolant has silicate in the formula. For Fleetguard ES coolant and proper coolant filter, refer to AEB 96.03. Page 3 of 5
