Issue #53 April 2012 A Message from Kelly & Susan Wow last month s weather provided our area with an incredible start to a new riding season! The record-setting warm weather combined with the announcement of our dealership s new location and the kick-off of our Super 40 Bike Giveaway contest seemed to help motivate everyone to get back to riding after, a somewhat brief, winter hibernation. However, even with all the excitement we shared last month, there were a few incidents that reminded us how diligent we must be when riding our motorcycles because the simple fact is that, at this time of year, many motorists are simply not thinking about or looking for motorcycles on the road. As we transition into another riding season, you can help increase motorcycle safety awareness by displaying Watch for Motorcycles decals on your vehicle(s) and/or Look Twice Save A Life yard signs at your home or business these decals and yard signs are free and available at our dealership - while supplies last. Also, April is helmet check month and, if your helmet is over five years old, now is the time to visit our Motorclothes Department to check out the large selection of DOT-approved helmets that were recently introduced by the Motor Company. These light-weight hybrid helmets are available in several colors and styles! We have been very pleased by the response from customers and the community over the announcement of our dealership s new location the running joke was that Susan and I were the only two people who didn t know that we were moving into the Old Quality Market building on West 12 th Street. Construction should begin the first week of this month and, if everything proceeds according to schedule, we plan on opening the new location in early July just in time for the Roar on the Shore Bike Rally! In closing, speaking of this year s Roar on the Shore Bike Rally we have agreed to donate a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle to the Roar on the Shore Bike Rally for their bike raffle. This is the sixth (6 th ) Harley-Davidson motorcycle that we have donated to Roar on the Shore, and we are very proud that the five previous motorcycles, which we also donated, have brought in over $140,000 for local charities in the community. This year s motorcycle is a 2012 Harley-Davidson (FXDC) Dyna Super Glide Custom in vivid black. Tickets will be available for purchase at our dealership early this month for $20/each and there will only be 2,500 tickets sold. We know that ticket sales will be brisk again this year so please make sure you stop by and get your ticket(s) early. Service Fast & Easy with H-D of Erie s Express Lane Riding season is the time to ride your bike and Harley-Davidson of Erie is committed to making sure that are able to spend as much time riding your motorcycle as possible. Therefore, to help minimize any downtime for maintenance or service work, we are pleased to provide to provide Express Lane service for repair/ maintenance jobs of one (1) hour or less no appointments required. The Express Lane is open six days a week and is based on a first come, first served basis. Bring the Kids to Our 5 th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 7 th Harley-Davidson of Erie will host our 5 th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7 th at noon. This FREE event is for children 12 years and under and will include snacks, beverages, Easter candy, prizes, and a special visitor for the kids!!!
Spring Fling Open House & Fashion Show on April 28 th Oh yeah, it s spring and that means that it is time for Harley-Davidson of Erie s Spring Fling Open House & Fashion Show! We will have FREE food and beverages, live entertainment, a fashion show, and tons of fun! The party starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 th. Mark your calendar now and make plans to join us as we kick-off the new riding season in style! Join Us for the Annual Blessing of the Bikes on April 21 st The Christian Motorcycle Association will be at Harley-Davidson of Erie at noon on Saturday, April 21 st to perform the annual blessing of the bikes. The staff at the shop always looks forward to having our bikes blessed for a new riding season. We will have specials on our ride bells because it s always nice to have a little angel with you on your ride.
Wild Wednesday Bike Nights @ Buffalo Wild Wings Harley-Davidson of Erie and Miller Lite are joining forces again with Buffalo Wild Wings to host Erie s largest and favorite weekly bike nights Wild Wednesday Bike Nights May 30 th thru September 5 th this summer from 6 to 9 pm. Bikers know that Buffalo Wild Wings is the place to be every Wednesday night during the summer for live music, vendors, contests, prizes, giveaways, food/beer specials, and the most bikes in town! All bikes are always welcome, so ride over and join us at Wild Wednesday Bike Nights for Erie s #1 bike night! Roar on the Shore Bike Rally on July 19-21 Harley-Davidson of Erie is proud to once again be the major sponsor for the Roar on the Shore Bike Rally, which will be held July 19-21, 2012 in Erie, PA. This year s rally promises to be even bigger than last year, which was attended by over 80,000 motorcyclists! Vanilla Ice will be the grand marshal for the Bringin in the Roar Bike Parade from Presque Isle Downs & Casino on Thursday, July 19 th. On Friday, July 20 th Harley-Davidson of Erie will once again host our FREE Thunder on the Isle Pre-Parade Gathering at our dealership from 3-6 p.m. We will have FREE food, music and giveaways. Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott will lead the Thunder on The Isle Bike Parade, which departs our dealership at 6 p.m., around scenic Presque Isle State Park donation of $10/bike. On Saturday, July 21 st make plans to join us for the rally s biggest Biker Party from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. We will have live entertainment, contests, vendors, and FREE lunch from Noon to 2 PM. After the biker party, we hope that you will join us downtown Saturday night at the Main Stage as we pull the winner s name for the 2012 Harley-Davidson Dyna (FXDC) Super Glide Custom donated by Harley-Davidson of Erie. H-D of Erie Welcomes New Staff to Our Family! We are pleased to announce the addition of Tammy, Emily, Mitch, Eric and Trish H-D of Erie is Moving This Summer! We are very excited about plans for Harley-Davidson of Erie s new home. The new dealership will be much larger (45,000 square feet) than our current facility and enable us to expand our selection of new and used motorcycles, apparel, parts & accessories, as well as our motorcycle storage and service business. It will also include a meeting room for the Erie Harley Owners Group (HOG), a classroom and outdoor training course for the PA Motorcycle Safety program, and 13,000 square feet of separate space for a restaurant and other retail businesses. In short, our dealership s new location will be a one-stop destination for all motorcycle enthusiasts in the tri-state region. See next page for contest details and rules. Super 40 Bike Giveaway Contest Takes Off! Our Super 40 Bike Giveaway Contest started on March 3 rd and based on the number of people who have stopped by the dealership each week to enter, it appears that many of you are excited about the chance to win a new 2012 Harley-Davidson SuperLow motorcycle. Congratulations to Mac McPherson, Jim Horn, Greg Lindner, Chuck Faytak, and Marty Schenker - the first five contestants in the Super 40 Bike Giveaway! We still have 35 contestant spots remaining so stop by our dealership every week to register (one entry per person each day) for a chance to win one of them during our weekly drawings that are held each Saturday at our dealership. You will also be able to register for special weekly drawings that will be held this summer during Wild Wednesday Bike Nights.
FROM THE DIRECTOR It s April and who would have thought that we would have been able to ride as much as we have so early in the year. The winter has certainly been mild and it took a great turn in mid-march. I have really enjoyed getting out and feeling the warm temperatures. The problem with the early warm up though, is that drivers are not paying attention for motorcycles. That was proven with the numerous accidents involving bikes and cars in March. We are at a disadvantage anytime but when people are not really paying attention the consequences can be deadly. I can t say it enough though- we must drive defensively. Please pay special attention so a tragedy can be avoided. I am working on the plans for the Patriot Flag Ride on June 1 st and 2 nd. We will be getting the flag on the 1 st and will be transferring it to Jamestown H-D on the 2 nd. The plans for the 20 th Annual MDA Poker Run are nearly complete. The ride this year is on June 10 th. We are asking for donations that we can use for door prizes and giveaways.
