Product Overview GATE VALVES Gate valves are the most commonly used shutoff valve in the industry today. They are used where minimum pressure drop and bi-directional on-off service is required. Gate valves are not designed for throttling service. Prolonged use in the partially open position will generally damage seating surfaces. Gate valves are available with a number of wedge configurations (solid, flexible and split) to best meet the specific service conditions (see page 6). Gate valves normally are handwheel operated, but are also available with gearing, electric motor actuators, or cylinder (pneumatic or hydraulic) actuators for remote operation. See Actuators and Accessories section for more detail. GLOBE VALVES Globe valves are used where throttling or both throttling and shutoff are required. They can also be used for on-off service, but because of high pressure drop, this is generally confined to applications where the valve is normally closed and pressure drop is not important when the valve is open. Normally globe valves are installed with flow under the disc, but under certain conditions flow over the disc may have advantages. Standard globe valves, because they are designed for both throttling and shutoff, should not be used for prolonged throttling at less than 10% open. Internal damage can occur. Using a smaller valve or V-port trim to increase the percent open will often solve this problem. V-port trim has a more linear throttling curve than plug or ball discs, but none of these trims are recommended for continuous severe throttling which may require using a control valve. Pacific Valves will be glad to advise you on your application. Globe valves are available with a complete range of manual or remote actuators. See Actuators and Accessories section for more detail. Selection TYPE AND SIZE Select the best type of valve for the intended service (gate, check, etc.). Gate and globe valves are available with a selection of wedge or disc configurations for different services. Valves may be sized to match existing lines, but swing check and stop-check valves should also be sized according to flow conditions for maximum service life. RATINGS Valves must only be used in operating conditions within the appropriate ANSI pressure-temperature ratings for valve class rating and body/bonnet material (see Technical Data section). TEMPERATURE LIMITATIONS Only use valves within the temperature limitations of their construction. Temperature limitations of body/bonnet materials, trim, bolting, packing and gaskets must all be considered. Special construction for extended service temperatures are available on application. MATERIAL AND SERVICE Cast steel bolted bonnet valves are available in a variety of body/bonnet materials and trims. General service recommendations for body/bonnet materials appear on page 37 and for trims on page 38. Specified materials should be compatible with the service. -2-

Product Overview GLOBE CHEC VALVES Stop check valves are globe valves with the added ability to prevent flow reversal. In the open position, they function as a lift check valve. In the closed position, they are seated by thrust from the stem like a globe valve. Stop check valves must be installed with the stem vertical and flow from below the disc. When the stem is opened, pressure from below the disc opens the valve and flow proceeds until it reverses. Uses and limitations of stop check valves included in this section are the same as lift check valves, except that they have this added ability to provide positive shutoff in either direction when the stem is in the closed position. Most common use of this type valve is to replace an isolation valve (gate, globe or angle) and a check valve on the discharge of pumps or to protect equipment from reverse flow from a common header. Pacific stop check valves are available with a complete range of manual or remote actuators covered in the Actuators and Accessories section of this catalog. SWING CHEC VALVES Swing check valves are used to prevent flow reversal in piping systems. They are suitable for service in horizontal or vertical (flow up through valve only) piping runs. Swing check valves have low pressure drop and are best suited for moderate velocity applications. Correct sizing of swing check valves is important (see page 25). Either too low a line velocity or too high a velocity can damage valve internals and shorten valve life. Service in systems involving rapid and frequent flow reversals, pulsation or turbulent flow should be avoided. Relocating swing check valves within the piping system can often minimize or eliminate problems caused by this type of application. Pacific Valves will be glad to advise you on your application. PACIFIC VALVES CODES AND STANDARDS Years of research and development, together with practical experience in reconditioning all types of valves, have gone into the design and manufacture of Pacific valves. High quality material and workmanship, combined with the modern manufacturing methods used in producing these valves, is your assurance of a dependable, uniform product. Pacific valves are designed in accordance with the applicable requirements of the latest edition of the following standards: API American Petroleum Institute MSS Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittings Industry ANSI American National Standards Institute ASME American Society of Mechanical Engineers -3-

Product Overview Tilting Disc Check Valves Tilting disc check valves are designed to handle applications requiring higher velocities and pressures. With seat rings welded into the valve bodies, these valves prevent damage due to turbulence and avoid damage from corroded seats. Perfectly cleaned before assembly, the valves seat rings are forged or rolled into one piece and heat treated to obtain the required surface hardness. Tilting disc check valves are noted as non-slam check valves for their quick and quiet closing capability. Available in Class 150, 300 and 600, these valves feature a double offset pivot (hinge pin) which reduces wear between the seat and seal while the valve is in motion. Line fluid flows both over and under the disc of each valve, cushioning closure by the line fluid itself. The body-cover joints of these Pacific valves are machined male and female fits for all class types. -4-

Gate Valves Major Features Pacific cast steel bolted bonnet gate valves are designed and manufactured to provide maximum service life and dependability. All gate valves are full ported and meet the design requirements of AP1-600 and ANSI B16.34. Valves are available in a complete range of body/ bonnet materials and trims. Rising Stem easily visible open-close indication. Grease Fittings yokesleeves equipped with fittings to minimize wear and operating torque. Handwheel large handwheels for easy operation. Also available with gearing, motor actuators or cylinder actuators for more difficult services. Yokesleeves furnished in ductile Ni-resist or aluminum-bronze to reduce operating torque. Swing Bolts facilitate easier maintenance and packing replacement. Stuffing Box optional lantern rings and grease injectors are available. Backseat machined bonnet stem bushing provides back-up stem seal. Bonnet Joint joint design varies with ANSI class rating. Gland two-piece gland/gland flange is self-aligning to eliminate stem damage from cocked gland. Stem all Pacific wedge gate valves are provided with upset forged T-head stems. By forging the T-head, the stem at the stem-wedge connection is stregthened. This design also allows the wedge to self-align, eliminating the possibility of a bent stem jamming the wedge. Body full ported, heavy duty body with API 600 wall thickness for maximum service life. Provided with bosses for optional by-passes or drains. Seat Rings separate heavy duty, full ported rings for easy maintenance. Wedge heavy pattern, fully guided wedge precision fitted to body seats for maximum shutoff. Available in H.I.S. design. End Connections flanged end options are raised face smooth finish or ring type joint. Range of Materials Standard body/bonnet materials include nine grades of carbon, low alloy and stainless steels. For special applications they can be supplied in other grades of alloy and stainless steel. There s a full range of trim materials to match any service. Optional packing and gasket materials are available for a full range of service conditions. Actuator Flexibility All valves are available with handwheels, gearing, electric motor actuators or pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder actuators. Easy Maintenance By providing a choice of wedge types, the valve can be matched up with the service conditions, thus enhancing operability and lessening the possibility of binding. Full body wedge guides assure wedgeto-seat alignment. Yokesleeve with needle bearings reduce operating torque for easy manual operation. Easy Operation Threaded or welded seat rings are easily accessible for repair or replacement. Packing swing bolts on most valves simplify packing replacement. All Pacific bolted bonnet designs facilitate fast disassembly. Longer Life Rugged construction provides years of reliable service. Forged T-head stem/ wedge design permits the wedge to selfalign for extended seat life. A two piece packing gland prevents cocking and stem damage. -5-

Gate Valves Optional Features Choice of Wedge Types Pacific cast steel bolted bonnet gate valves are available with a full selection of wedge types to match operating service conditions. Specify the type best suited to your service conditions. This is the most common wedge type. It is also the strongest, simplest and most economical of the various wedge types. The advantages of this wedge are that it is highly resistant to corrosion and vibration. Disadvantages are that it is not self-compensating to seat distortion caused by high temperature thermal expansion or bending moments applied to the valve by piping loads which may cause the wedge to stick in the seats. The flex wedge is cast or machined with a circumferential groove to allow the seating faces to move independently and adjust to movement of the body seats. It is used where line loads or thermal expansion of the system is likely to distort the seat face in the valve. The flex wedge is especially useful to prevent sticking where valves are closed when hot and opened when cold. This type of wedge is ideally suited for steam or other high temperature services. Solid Wedge Flex Wedge The split wedge provides complete flexibility between the two halves of the wedge to compensate for seat distortion, especially in light weight, low pressure valves. This style is also used for high pressure gas or corrosive services. It is not recommended for high velocity flow or services where suspended particles can foul the wedge. Because of the complexity of this design, it is generally more expensive than the solid or flex designs. For services that require bubble tight shutoff, the High Integrity Shutoff (HIS) design is the best option. This fire safe design provides a zero leakage barrier on both upstream and downstream seats. A full range of trim and shell materials are available for corrosive service and temperatures up to 450 F. Split Wedge High Integrity Shutoff Wedge Standard Bonnet Joints Body/bonnet joints on Pacific valves are designed for rugged services with a more than adequate number of bonnet bolts. The standard joint varies, depending on valve class. These standard joints are shown. Class 150 The standard, flat, oval bonnet joint is the simplest and most economical configuration for low pressure services and is required to maintain ANSI face-to-face dimensions on Class 150 valves sizes 4"-36". Our standard gasket is corrugated metal, but flat gaskets of other materials are available when specified. 1½" thru 3" valves are furnished with a circular male and female bonnet joint and spiral wound gasket. Class 300 The circular male and female bonnet joint are self- aligning and well suited for intermediate pressure classes. Our standard gasket is spiral wound. Valves in these classes are also available with double jacketed or ring joint gaskets when specified. Class 600-1500 The circular ring joint bonnet seal has proven to be the best bolted high pressure bonnet joint available. The ring joint is self-aligning; the gasket may be reused unless it is physically damaged. Valves in these classes are also available with spiral wound gasket bonnet joints when specified. -6-

Globe Valves Major Features Pacific cast steel bolted bonnet globe valves are designed and manufactured to provide maximum service life and dependability. Valves meet the design requirements of AP1-600 and ANSI B16.34. Valves are available in a complete range of body/bonnet materials and trims. Yokesleeves furnished in aluminum-bronze to reduce operating torque. Most sizes furnished with ball bearing yokesleeves. Handwheel large handwheels for easy operation. Also available with gearing, motor actuators or cylinder actuators for more difficult services. Swing Bolts facilitate easier maintenance and packing replacement. Stuffing Box optional lantern rings and grease injectors are available. Gland two-piece gland/gland flange is self-aligning to eliminate stem damage from cocked gland. Stem precision machined stem has a backseat design. Bonnet Joint joint varies with ANSI class rating. Backseat machined bonnet stem bushing provides back-up stem seal. Seat Rings separate heavy duty, full ported rings for easy maintenance. Disc heavy duty disc available in plug, ball or V-port design. Body full ported, heavy duty body with API 600 wall thickness for maximum service life. Provided with bosses for optional by-passes or drains. End Connections choice of flanged or butt weld ends for piping flexibility. Actuator Flexibility All valves are available with hand-wheels, gearing, electric motor actuators or pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder actuators. Easy Operation Threaded seat rings are easily accessible for repair or replacement. Packing swing bolts on most valves simplify packing replacement. All Pacific bolted bonnet designs facilitate fast disassembly. Longer Life Rugged construction provides years of reliable service. A two piece packing gland prevents cocking and stem damage. -11-

Globe Valves Optional Features Disc Types Pacific globe valves are available with a choice of disc types to meet specific shutoff and throttling applications. See service recommendations (page 37) for throttling applications. Plug Disc Simplest and most economical disc type available. The disc is stem guided on all sizes. Disc has a differential angle front the seat to provide a line contact for maximum sealing. Simplest disc type for field repair. V-Port Disc Optional disc configuration, where more linear throttling characteristics are required. The bottom of the disc is guided by the body seat ring for maximum disc stability in throttling applications. Valves with V-port trim are provided with non-revolving stems and position indicator assemblies on the yoke. Ideal for non-severe throttling service where near linear characteristics are required. Ball Type Disc Optional disc configuration which provides line contact between spherical disc and conical body seat. This design minimizes galling tendency with non-hardened stainless steel seats and is less likely to stick in the body seat. Optional Soft Seated Trim All globe valves are available with optional Teflon disc. The molded teflon ring is bonded into a groove in the disc for maximum service life. This design is excellent for lower temperature service where tight shutoff is required. Specify T trim (see page 38). Standard Bonnet Joints Body/bonnet joints on Pacific valves are designed for rugged services with a more than adequate number of bonnet bolts. The standard joint varies, depending on valve class. These standard joints are shown. Class 150 The standard, circular bonnet joint is the simplest and most economical configuration for low pressure services. The male and female joint confines the gasket O.D. and I.D. Our standard gasket is corrugated metal, but flat gaskets of other materials are available when specified. Class 300 The circular male and female bonnet joint is self-aligning and encapsulates the gasket. Our standard gasket is double jacketed metal. Valves in these classes are also available with spiral wound or ring joint gaskets when specified. Class 600 and 900 The circular ring joint bonnet seal has proven to be the best bolted high pressure bonnet joint available. The ring joint is self-aligning; the gasket may be reused unless it is physically damaged. Valves in these classes are also available with spiral wound gasket bonnet joints when specified. -12-

Sizing For best performance, stop-check valves should operate within a flow range sufficient to hold the valve fully open, but not so high that it produces excessive turbulence and pressure drop. Either extreme may damage valve internal parts and shorten valve life. The most effective method to correctly size a stop-check valve is to calculate the valve seat port velocity (see Technical Data section) at the operating flow rate. The ideal seat port velocity for a stop-check valve should fall within the velocity range expressed by the following formula: 40 v velocity (fps) 120 v Where v = Square root of specific volume of flow media at operation conditions. Valve size should be adjusted up or down until the seat port velocity is within this range for maximum value service life. -18-

Swing Check Valve Major Features All Pacific cast steel bolted bonnet swing check valves are available in a complete range of body/bonnet materials and trims (see page 38). The valves are designed to provide fast check valve action and maximum service life. All swing check valves are full ported, have full API 600 wall thickness, and meet the design requirements of ANSI B16.34. Bonnet Joint joint design varies with ANSI class rating. Hinge Pin precision machined solid pin for maximum strength and service life. Hinge designed to withstand the shock load of quick closing to insure longer life and continued shut-off. Seat Ring heavy duty, full ported seal welded into body. Disc Stop provides positive stop in open position; positions disc to effectively function in either horizontal or vertical (flow-up) pipe runs. Anti-Rotation Lugs lugs allow disc to seat freely and prevent disc spinning and wear. Disc rugged disc is bolted and pinned to hinge; ground seating surface is mated to seat ring for positive shutoff. End Connections choice of flanged end or butt weld for piping flexibility Body full ported, heavy duty body with API 600 wall thickness for maximum service life. Provided with bosses for optional drains. Range of Materials Standard body/bonnet materials include nine grades of carbon, low alloy and stainless steels. For special applications, they can be supplied in other grades of alloy and stainless steel. There s a full range of trim materials to match any service. Standard and optional gaskets are available for a wide variety of service conditions. Sizing Swing Check Valves Three factors should be considered when sizing swing check valves; the pressure drop across the valve, the flow velocity of the fluid through the valve, and the location of the valve in relation to other piping components. For best performance swing check valves should operate with fluid velocity sufficient to hold the disc in a stable position off the seat or fully open against the disc stop. Extremely high velocities should be avoided due to possible cavitation. In addition, there is a mid-range of velocity where the disc may become unstable as it approaches the disc stop. Operation in these velocity ranges should be avoided to achieve best performance and valve life. Calculating Pressure Drop Please refer to Flow Calculations in the Technical Data section for swing check valve flow coefficient (Cv) and equations to calculate pressure drop through the valve. Calculating Velocity Velocity equations are included in the Technical Data Section. When sizing swing check valves, the seat port velocity should be controlled within the general ranges specified below. Reliable Operation Valves are designed to close quickly with positive shutoff in either horizontal or vertical (flow up) pipe runs. The body seat ring is installed on a 3 angle. This allows our swing check valve to close completely even when installed in a horizontal pipe run with no flow. Easy Maintenance Our bolted bonnet design is simple to disassemble, easy to maintain. For example, our unique threaded seat rings are easily accessible for repair or replacement. 0 v 55 v Avoid this range. 55 v 240 v Longer Life Our rugged hinge pin/hinge and disc construction is designed to withstand the shock of quick closing and provides years of service. Anti-rotation lugs on discs extend service life in turbulent, high velocity services which can otherwise cause spinning and wear. Generally optimum operating velocity range (See note). Over 240 v Avoid this range. Where: v = The specific volume in ft 3 /lb of the fluid flowing. Note: There is an intermediate operating velocity within this range at which the disc may become unstable. This non-optimum operating velocity range is generally from 115 v to 135 v, however, upstream piping components placed in close proximity to the valve will tend to increase this range. Influence of Valve Position Swing check valves can be adversely affected by turbulence if placed too closely to other piping components such as pumps, control valves, meters, reducers, tees, elbows, etc. In general a minimum of 10 pipe diameters of straight pipe should be provided upstream of a swing check valve to minimize adverse conditions. -22-

Swing Check Valves Optional Features Anti-rotation Disc Two integrally cast lugs on the disc prevent the disc from spinning in service. This exclusive feature helps extend valve life in difficult services by eliminating disc spinning. Outside Lever and All external hinge pin swing check valves 12" and smaller are available with an optional outside lever and weight. This feature can be used to either dampen or assist closing of the check valve disc depending on orientation. By using the lever and weight to counterbalance the disc, the valve opens at lower flow rates. By orienting the weight to add to the disc weight, the weight closes the valve faster. Please specify which orientation is desired when requesting this feature. Optional Seat Types Heavy duty, full ported seat rings have controlled seat width to provide maximum sealing force. Our optional threaded design allows simple, low cost replacement. For high temperature service, seat rings should be lock welded or seal welded. Please specify. Seat ring facings are available in many materials, including Co-Cr-A alloy hardfacing, commonly specified for its excellent resistance to wear and damage. See page 38 for available trims. Standard Bonnet Joints Body/bonnet joints on Pacific valves are designed for rugged services with a more than adequate number of bonnet bolts. The standard joint varies, depending on valve class. These standard joints are shown. Class 150 Standard joint is a circular male and female configuration with a corrugated metal gasket. The male and female joint confines the gasket O.D and I.D. When specified, gaskets of other materials are available as an option. Class 300 The circular male and female bonnet joint is self-aligning and encapsulates the gasket. Our standard gasket is double jacketed metal. Valves in these classes are also available with spiral wound or ring joint gaskets when specified. Class 600, 900 and 1500 The circular ring joint bonnet seal has proven to be the best bolted high pressure bonnet joint available. The ring joint is self-aligning; the gasket maybe reused unless it is physically damaged. Valves in these classes are also available with spiral wound gaskets when specified. -23-
