WARNING: Before using this power tool, it is critical that these safety rules are read and understood. Failure to follow these rules could result in serious injury or damage to the power tool. Good safety practices are a combination of common sense, staying alert and understanding how this power tool works. To avoid mistakes that could cause serious injury, do not use this power tool until all safety rules have been read and understood. READ and become familiar with this entire Owner s Manual. LEARN the tool s applications, limitations and possible hazards. WARNING: Look for this symbol that identifies important safety precautions. It means CAUTION BE ALERT PERSONAL SAFETY IS INVOLVED KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE and in working order. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION. Any power tool can throw foreign objects into your eyes which could cause permanent eye damage. ALWAYS wear safety goggles (not glasses) that comply with ANSI safety standard Z87.1. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They ARE NOT safety glasses. POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNING: Glasses or goggles not in compliance with ANSI Z87.1 could cause serious injury when they break. WORK AREA Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in environments where explosive elements, such as flammable liquids, gas or dust are present. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating this tool. Distractions can cause loss of control. PERSONAL SAFETY Stay alert, watchful and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Contain long hair. Keep hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 5

POWER TOOL SAFETY PERSONAL SAFETY continued Avoid accidental starting. Be sure power switch is OFF before plugging in. Carrying tools with finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch ON invites accidents. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the tool ON. A wrench or key that is left attached to a rotating or moving part of the tool may result in personal injury. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enable better control of the tool in unexpected situations. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat and/or hearing protection must be used in appropriate conditions. TOOL USE AND CARE Use clamps or another practical method to secure and support the workpiece on a stable platform. Holding the workpiece by hand or against the body is unstable, unsafe, and may lead to loss of control. Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for the required application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed. Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it ON or OFF. Any tool that cannot be controlled by the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventative safety measures reduce the risk of the tool starting accidentally. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the tool s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Numerous accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for this model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may be hazardous when used with another tool. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE 6

TOOL USE AND CARE continued Keep the tool and its handle dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Always use a clean cloth when cleaning. Never use brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum based products or any strong solvents to clean this tool. Following this rule will reduce the risk of fire, loss of control and deterioration of the plastic components of the tool. SERVICE Tool service must be performed only by qualified personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in risk of injury. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow maintenance instructions may create a risk of electric shock or injury. SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES WARNING: For safety reasons, do not plug in the charger, charge the battery or operate the tool until this Owner s Manual has been read and understood. Always use safety goggles or other suitable eye protection. Always check to make sure the area where screws are being driven does not have any hidden wiring. Contact with a live wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool live and could result in an electric shock to the operator. POWER TOOL SAFETY 7 Do not drive screws or break into existing walls or other blind areas where electrical wiring may exist. If this situation is unavoidable, remove all fuses or disconnect all breakers feeding the work area. Secure the workpiece in a vice or with clamps. Never hold in hand or across legs. The rotating action of the screwdriver may cause the bit to come loose from the screw and cause injury. Never carry the cordless screwdriver with finger on the switch. The tool is always in an ON condition when the battery is charged. Never hold the body of the cordless screwdriver near the switch while changing screwdriver bits. Accidentally touching the switch may start the tool and possibly cause an injury. Always use the correct shape of screwdriver bit that matches the head of the screw. Always use the largest size screwdriver bit that will properly fit into the head of the screw. Do not use worn or damaged screwdriver bits. Worn or damaged screwdriver bits will not drive the screw properly and may jump out of the screw head, causing possible injury. Always insert the magnetic bit holder fully into the collet. If not fully inserted, the magnetic bit holder may jump out of the collet and cause damage to the workpiece or possible injury. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

BATTERY & CHARGER SAFETY WARNING: The lithium-ion battery is an integral part of the tool. ASSEMBLY & OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS LITHIUM-ION BATTERY PERFORMANCE Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries generally provide superior performance to nickel-cadmium batteries when used in power tools. Faster charges Longer battery life More power Lighter weight Lithium-ion batteries perform best and deliver peak output power at room temperature (20 C or 68 F). When operated in lower temperatures, the battery output will be reduced and it will NOT function below 20 C (-4 F). The output power will increase as the heat generated by the battery during use increases the internal temperature of the battery. The result is increased power as the tool is used. WARNING: Ensure to read POWER TOOL SAFETY, SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES, EXTENSION CORD SAFETY and SYMBOLS on pages 3 through 7 of this Manual before operating this Compact Cordless Screwdriver. Every time you the cordless screwdriver is used, the following should be verified: 1. Screwdriver bit is the correct type & size, not worn and not damaged in any way. 2. Workpiece is properly secured. 3. Safety glasses are being worn. Failure to adhere to these safety rules can greatly increase the chances of injury or property damage. DRIVING SCREWS When driving screws, care must be taken to use the bit that correctly fits the head of the screw being driven. Make sure to use the largest bit size that will properly fit into the head of the screw. The bits must also be in good condition and not worn so they will drive screws without slipping out of the screw head. 1. Select the correct screwdriver bit for the screw being driven. 2. Insert the magnetic bit holder (1) into the collet (2) (Fig. 9). 3. Insert the bit (3) fully into the bit holder. 4. Insert the screwdriver bit fully into the screw head (4). 5. While holding the screwdriver firmly against the screw and the bit aligned with the screw, press the upper part of the switch to start the screwdriver and drive the screw. 6. When the screw is driven to the correct depth, release the switch and the screwdriver will stop. 7. When the switch is released and the screwdriver stops turning, the spindle will automatically lock. Fully tighten the screw by manually rotating the screwdriver handle in a clockwise direction. 8. To remove screws, follow the same general procedure as for driving screws. When starting the screwdriver, press on the lower part of the switch. 15

ASSEMBLY & OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS DRIVING SCREWS continued GENERAL MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing, use only identical Mastercraft parts. Use of any other part may create a hazard or cause product damage. DO NOT use solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use clean cloth to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc. WARNING: Do not at any time allow brake fluids, gasoline, petroleumbased products, penetrating oils, etc. to come in contact with plastic parts. They contain chemicals that can damage, weaken or destroy plastic. DO NOT abuse power tools. Abusive practices can damage the tool as well as the workpiece. Fig. 9 WARNING: DO NOT attempt to modify this cordless screwdriver or use accessories not recommended for this cordless screwdriver. Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious injury. It will also void the warranty. LUBRICATION All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of high-grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal conditions. Therefore, no further lubrication is required. 16

BATTERY PACK REMOVAL AND PREPARATION FOR RECYCLING To preserve our natural resources, please recycle or dispose of batteries properly. This product contains lithium-ion batteries. Never dispose of lithium-ion batteries in normal household garbage or in landfill sites as they will add to the pollution of the environment. Consult the local waste authority for information regarding available recycling and disposal options. BATTERY PACK REMOVAL AND PREPARATION FOR RECYCLING WARNING: Upon removal of the battery, cover the terminals of the battery with electrical or heavy-duty adhesive tape. Never touch both terminals with metal objects or body parts as a short circuit may result. Keep away from children. Do not attempt to destroy or disassemble battery or remove any of its components. Lithiumion batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Failure to comply with these warnings could result in fire and serious injury. MAINTENANCE BATTERY MAINTENANCE For power, long operational life and light weight, this tool is powered by a lithium-ion battery. These lithium-ion batteries are powerful, rugged and will provide hundreds of charge/discharge cycles if properly maintained. NOTE: Never remove the battery in order to use it for any other purpose. This will void the warranty. How to care for the lithium-ion battery 1. Do not use the cordless screwdriver at temperatures below 10 C (14 F). 2. Never allow a battery to freeze. 3. Do not charge a battery that has been stored at or below 0 C (32 F) or above 40 C (104 F). Allow it to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before charging. 4. Do not charge the battery if the tool seems warm to the touch. 5. To protect the battery this tool is equipped with a battery monitor circuit. When the battery voltage reaches the minimum manufacturer s recommended voltage, it interrupts the power to the tool, signalling that the battery should be charged. 6. The battery monitoring circuit shuts down at temperatures below -15 C (5 F) to protect the battery. 7. At very low temperatures battery output is severely reduced. However, it is safe to use the tool, as its output will increase to normal levels due to self-generated heat. 17
