Electric cable: 6.35/11 (12) kv XLPE insulated aerial bundled cable 1 Scope his Malaysian Standard specifies the construction, dimensions, test, drumming and packaging requirements of three core Aluminium (AL) conductor aerial bundled cables with extruded cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation for operation at rated voltage 6.35/11 (12) kv. he cables as prescribed are generally used for medium voltage, fixed installation system for aerial distribution network. It is not intended for use in prolonged water logged conditions and for specialised applications (e.g. welding, crane lifting, mines), which are covered by other Malaysian Standards, where applicable. 2 Normative references he following normative references are indispensable for the application of this standard. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative reference (including any amendments) applies. In this standard, the conductor shall be circular compacted stranded (Class 2) and the outermost layer of conductor shall have a right hand (Z) direction of lay. 4.2 Conductor screen A conductor screen consisting of an extruded layer of black thermosetting semi-conductive material shall be applied over the conductor. he thickness of screen at any point shall not be less than 0.5 mm. he extruded semi-conductive layer shall be firmly bonded to the insulation. 4.3 Insulation he insulation shall be of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) in accordance with, shall be applied over the conductor screen. he nominal and minimum thickness of insulation shall be as specified in able 1. For each piece of core, the smallest value measured shall not fall below 90 % of the nominal value by more than 0.1 mm, i.e.: t min 0.9 t n - 0.1 2 SANDARDS MALAYSIA 2015 - All rights reserved
and additionally: where, (t max - t min ) / t max 0.15 t max t min t n is the maximum thickness, in millimetres; is the minimum thickness, in millimetres; and is the nominal thickness, in millimetres. NOE. t max and t min are measured at the same cross-section. 4.4 Insulation screen An insulation screen consisting of an extruded layer of black strippable or bonded thermosetting semi-conductive material shall be applied over the insulation. he thickness of screen at any point shall not be less than 0.5 mm. he conductor screen, insulation and insulation screen shall be applied by using triple extrusion process. 4.5 Core identification he three cores shall be identified by means of colour tapes; i.e., red, yellow and blue, applied over the insulation screen and shall remain identifiable throughout the length of cable. 4.6 Metallic screen he metallic screen shall consist of two layers of plain annealed copper tape of nominal thickness (0.1 0.01) mm and (30 ± 2) mm in width, helically applied over the insulation screen. Each layer of copper tape shall have an overlap of not less than 15 %. 4.7 Separator A layer of separating tape in the form of non-hygroscopic type shall be applied with an overlap over the metallic screen layer. 4.8 Oversheath he oversheath shall be an extruded layer of PVC-S2 in accordance with, applied over the separator. Unless otherwise specified, the colour of the oversheath shall be black. he oversheath shall have a thickness at any point not less than 2.3 mm. Chemical additives may be necessary in the oversheath for special purpose, for example termite protection, but they should not include materials harmful to mankind and/or environment.
