Ssfety Precautions (1/2) Read the following Safety Precautions thoroughly before using the rivet tool, and use the tool correctly, following the instructions included in the instruction manual. Cautions are divided into the following: WARNING CAUTION Erroneous handling could cause death or serious injury. Erroneous handling could cause personal injury or damage. After reading the manual, keep it in a handy place where rivet operators can refer to it any time. Use this tool only when setting standard pop rivets. (See the catalog of pop rivets for selecting rivets.) WARNING 1. Use the tool with an air pressure of 0.55-0.65 MPa. Exceeding the specified air pressure could damage the tool, resulting in accident or injury. 2. Do not use or operate this tool while pointing at any person. Do not look into the tool from the front or back. If rivets or ruptured mandrels pop out, it could cause an accident or serious injury (losing eyesight, etc.). 3. Always wear protective goggles (JIS T8147 specification product) during use. If rivets or ruptured mandrels pop out, it could cause an accident or serious injury (losing eyesight, etc.). 4. Be sure to attach the collector without damage. When removing the collector, be sure to separate the coupler to stop the supply of compressed air. Do not supply compressed air while the collector is detached: Doing so could cause the ruptured mandrels to pop out, resulting in an accident or serious injury (losing eyesight, etc.). 5. Check whether individual parts are damaged or not: If there is a damaged part, stop using the tool and ask for a repair. Using the damaged tool as is could cause an accident or injury. 6. Securely connect the compressed air supply block. If the screws at the connection section do not fit in or the threaded insert margin is insufficient, the coupler, hose, etc. could come off during use, resulting in an accident or injury. Refer to section one (p.3) for details of part names. A warning label is stuck to the Chamber of this tool. If the label is badly damaged or if it peels off, contact your supplier or one of our offices to obtain a replacement (a replacement fee will be charged). - 1 -

CAUTION Safety Precautions (2/2) 1. When this tool is disassembled for maintenance and/or parts replacement, and then reassembled, be sure to separate the coupler or perform similar actions to stop supply of compressed air. If the tool is disassembled or reassembled while compressed air is being supplied, parts could pop out, oil could jet out, or the tool could move unexpectedly, resulting in an accident or injury. 2. Securely tighten the fill-screw when using the tool. Using the tool with the fill-screw loosened or removed could cause oil to jet out, resulting in an accident or injury. 3. Do not operate the tool with the nose housing removed: Doing so could cause your fingers to be caught, etc., resulting in injury. 4. Use only the parts supplied or specified by use. Attach the parts that suit the rivets to be used. Neglecting the above could not only cause the tool to fail to deliver full performance, but abnormal operation could result in an accident or injury. 5. Do not modify this tool without our permission. Unauthorized modification could cause abnormal operation, resulting in an accident or injury. 6. Leave maintenance of this tool to qualified persons who understand the functions and mechanism. Qualified persons should follow the instructions described in the instruction manual and take great care during the work. If unauthorized persons who do not have knowledge or techniques perform maintenance, the tool will not only fail to deliver full performance, but it could also result in an accident or injury. 7. Contact us for repair of this tool. Contact your dealer or us for repair of the tool: If unauthorized persons who do not have knowledge or techniques on servicing perform repair, the tool will not only fail to deliver full performance, but it could also result in an accident or injury. 8. Keep the handle grip dry and clean without oil or grease adhering. Oil or grease could cause the tool to slip from your hand and fall. 9. Do not scatter ruptured mandrels on the floor. Ruptured mandrels are dangerous since they have sharp points. Persons stepping on mandrels are likely to slip, and could fall. 10. Please organic solvent do not adhere to the Handle front, the Handle rear, the collector body, and the collector cover (These materials are polycarbonates). Parts etc. dash out by damaging the above-mentioned parts, and the accident and the trouble might be owed. 11. Be careful of exhaust air from the Exhaust vent. Do not bring your face (especially eyes) to the Exhaust vent, since it occasionally discharges foggy air intensively. Be careful: Exhaust air could contaminate surrounding objects. Foggy air containing oil or moisture could be discharged mainly depending on the status of compressed air supplied. Refer to section one (p.3) for details of part names. - 2 -

7. Maintenance and Inspections (Table 7.1) No Item Purpose Cleaning and Greasing Removal of metal dusts, prevention of faster lubricating parts at Applying spray Jaws and Jaw case wears, smooth Jaws the end such as the type lubricant motion, & prevention of Jaws biting. 7-1 Jaws. Replacement of parts at the end such Replacement due to damage as the Jaws etc. 7-2 Exchange of the Hydraulic oil To restore stroke 7-3 Replacing the Nosepiece To match the rivets used Because of damage 7-4 Replacing the Jaw pusher spring Because of damage 7-5 Replacing the O-ring Because of damage 7-6 Replacing the Jaw pusher Because of damage 7-7 Replacing the Jaws To match the rivets used 7-8 Replacing the Ejector complete Recovery when MCS function has become degraded 7-1 Cleaning and lubricating parts at the end such as the Jaws, etc. Periodically clean and lubricate the parts at the end such as the Jaws, etc. Either grease or spray type lubricant can be used for lubrication. Lubricate them at the frequency specified below as a yardstick. Greasing ---------------------------------------------- Approx. every 5,000 fastenings Spray type lubricant application ------------- Approx. every 2,000 fastenings The tool end loses smoothness in motion because of metal dusts accumulated on the end or the Jaws begins slipping after a few thousand fastenings. The insufficient lubrication also makes the Jaws slipping or seizing, and causes the faster wear of the Jaws and Jaw case. Jaws slipping: Phenomenon of the Jaws failing to grip mandrels and slipping in fastening rivets. (The teeth mark of the Jaw on the mandrels is the sign of the slipping.) If the Jaws completely slips, fastening becomes impossible. The Jaws, Jaw case, and Nose housing, etc. may be damaged if the jaw slips, resulting in gripping mandrels with the Jaws end only. Jaws seizure: Phenomenon of the Jaws seized with the Jaw case to prevent the Jaws to open and mandrels from being ejected. <Trouble solving procedure> Remove the caught mandrel by lightly hitting it with a hammer at its end. Then clean and lubricate the parts at the end such as the Jaws by following steps as described above. Hummer Fig. 7-1 Caught mandrel - 10 -

* Replace the Jaws and Jaw case if the above phenomena still occur after cleaning and lubricating. When the Jaws, Jaw pusher, Jaw pusher spring, and Jaw case are damaged, replace them with new ones. <Procedure> In greasing Grease after approx. every 5,000 fastenings as a yardstick. (1) Stop the supply of compressed air. (2) Turn the Nose housing counter-clockwise with a spanner (24 mm) to remove it from the Housing adapter. (Fig. 7-2) (3) Turn the Jaw case counter-clockwise with two spanners (14mm and 15mm) to remove it from the Pulling head. The parts to be disassembled in this step are as shown below. (Fig.7-2) Nose housing Pulling head Jaws O-ring Jaw case Jaw pusher Jaw pusher spring Fig. 7-2 (4) Wash these disassembled parts with kerosene oil. Fully remove metal dusts stuck in the Jaws teeth with a wire brush, or the like. Blow compressed air inside of the Nose housing and pulling head to clean them. Replace any damaged part with new one. (5) Assemble the parts disassembled in the above (2) and (3) by reversing the procedure of (2) and (3). Apply enough volume of grease inside the Jaw case (the faces to be in contact with the jaws) before reassembly. (Fig. 7-3) Recommend to use molybdenum disulfide type grease. Jaw case (in cross section view) Grease (in the thickness of 1 to 2mm) Fig. 7-3 - 11 -

In applying spray type lubricant Apply the lubricant after approx. every 2,000 fastenings as a yardstick. (1) Close the Valve shutter. As a result, the supply of air to MCS stops. (If the lubricant is sprayed without closing the Valve shutter, the lubricant is not applied to the Jaws.) (2) Insert the nozzle of the spray type lubricant container in the end of the Nosepiece, and spray the lubricant for d few seconds. Cover the spraying area with cleaning cloth to prevent the lubricant from being scattered in spraying. (Fig. 7-4) Cleaning cloth Cover the area with cleaning cloth to prevent the lubricant from being scattered. Fig. 7-4 Nose-piece Spray type lubricant Insert the material container nozzle by 2 to 3mm and spray the lubricant for a few seconds. Pikka *If the Jaws slipping or seizure tends to occur even after the above procedure, metal dusts are likely to be accumulated in the end area. If so, disassemble the product to clean it. See the greasing procedure for disassembling and cleaning the products. - 12 -

7-4. Exchange of the hydraulic oil When the hydraulic oil is down and the stroke is low (one trigger operation does not allow riveting), exchange the hydraulic oil by the following procedure: If stroke is low immediately after hydraulic oil is exchanged, seal has worn: Ask for repair. Procedure (1) Cut off supply of compressed air by separating the coupler. (2) Remove the Collector and the Nose housing. (3) Remove the Cap screws (4 pcs) with 4mm hexagonal wrench. (Fig. 7-5) (4) Do the Chamber up, and remove the Chamber. Pull out the Air piston assembly. Discard the Hydraulic oil in the Sleeve. (Fig. 7-6) Chamber Air piston assembly Remove 4mm Hexagonal wrench Cap screw (4pcs) Fig. 7-5 Fig. 7-6 (5) Inject the specified oil (see Table 5-1 on P.7) into the Sleeve (hole in which the Air piston assembly was inserted), until the oil surface is the same of O-ring. (Fig. 7-7) Specified oil Sleeve Oil surface is same of O-ring. O-ring Sleeve Hydraulic oil Fig. 7-7 - 13 -

(6) Loosen the Fill screw about 3mm, push and hold the Air piston. The hydraulic oil oozes out from the Fill screw, and hold it, until this polluted the Hydraulic oil does not come out. (Fig. 7-8) (7) Pull out the Air piston assembly, inject the hydraulic oil again according to (5), and tighten the Fill screw temporarily. (8) After pushing the Air piston assembly, and making the piston move 5-6 times by the hand, pull out the Air piston assembly again, and confirm the oil side. (Fig. 7-9) Repeat (7) and (8) when the oil side has fallen or air mixes. Push and Hold Air piston assembly Fill screw Making the piston move 5-6 times by the hand. Fig. 7-8 Dirty oil Fig. 7-9 (9) After the injection of the Hydraulic oil is completed, reassemble the Air piston assembly and the Chamber according to the following procedure. 1) Put the Oil replacement washer (accessory) in the Nose housing. 2) Insert the Air piston assembly in the Sleeve, and push it. In the stage, assemble the Nose housing in which the Oil replacement washer is inserted. 3) Grease inside of the Chamber. Afterwards, reassemble the Chamber. 4) Remove the Nose housing, and take out the Oil replacement washer in the Nose housing. Oil replacement washer Nose housing Fig. 7-10 - 14 -

(10) Loosen the Fill screw, and remove an extra hydraulic oil and air (bubble). Tighten the Fill screw after it leaves it until the hydraulic oil does not come out. (Fig.7-11) Fill screw Remove Fig.7-11 (11) Assemble the Nose housing and the Collector. *Do not allow any dust or metal particle to enter the hydraulic oil or chamber during disassembly and reassembly. 7-3. Replacing the Nosepiece Use the specified the Nosepiece to match the rivets used (see Table 2-1 on P.4). If the Nosepiece is damaged, replace it. Procedure (1) Use spanner (12mm) to remove the Nosepiece from the Nose housing. (Fig. 7-12) Remove Fig. 7-12 Nose housing Nosepiece (2) Apply the thread lock agent (type of low strength) to the tread of the Nose piece. (3) Tighten specified the Nosepiece to the Nose housing firmly. 7-4. 8. Troubleshooting (If you cannot fix the tool after checking the content of this secton, send it to your supplier or one of our offices for repair.) Symptom Cause Troubleshooting 1.Parts are inappropriate. Nosepiece is not appropriate with rivets used. Rivet cannot be inserted into Nosepiece. Or mandrel cannot be ejected after riveting. Mandrels cannot be collected by MCS (Attractive force is weak). One trigger operation does not allow riveting. 2.Loose parts Nosepiece, Nose housing, Jaw case are loose. 3.Damaged parts Jaw, Nosepiece (section in contact with Jaw), Jaw pusher or Jaw pusher spring is damaged. 4.Dirt in Nose housing Metal particles have accumulated in Nose housing, which causes defective opening of Jaw. 5.Jaw and jaw case are poorly lubricated. Defective lubrication causes catching. 6.Excessive hydraulic oil After hydraulic is replenished, surplus hydraulic oil and air are not removed. 7.Clogging in jaw pusher Mandrels are clogged in the jaw pusher. 1.Shortage of supplied air pressure. Replace the parts with appropriate ones. (see P.4) Use wrench to securely tighten them. Replace the damaged parts. (See P.11) Clean nose housing, jaw, etc. (see P.11) Clean and grease the point end parts, such as jaw. (see P.11) Loosen the fill-screw and eliminate surplus hydraulic oil and air. (See P.15) Remove the jaw pusher and remove the clogged objects. (See P.11) Adjust the supplied air pressure. (see P.6) Open Valve shutter. (see P.6) 2.The amount which shuts Valve shutter or opens is insufficient. 3. Ccollector is full of mandrels. Discard the mandrels from Collector. (see P.9) 4.Mandrels are clogged in Jaw pusher Remove Jaw pusher, and removed clogged mandrels. (see P.11) 5.Wear-out of Ejector nozzle Replace Ejector complete.(see P.16) 1.Parts are inappropriate. Replace the parts with appropriate Nosepiece is not appropriate with rivets ones. (see P.4, P.15, P.16) used. 2.Shortage of supplied air pressure. Adjust the supplied air pressure. (see P.6) 3.Slippage of jaw Metal particles are clogged in jaw teeth or teeth are worn, and the jaw cannot catch mandrels, causing slippage. Clean the jaw. If fault is not corrected after cleaning, replace the jaw. (see P.11) 4.Stroke is too low Exchange hydraulic oil. (see P.13) Hydraulic oil is short or air enters, causing low stroke. - 18 -
