. Important notes For use within the BMW dealer organisation only. Installation time: 4.0 hours Installation time may vary depending on the condition of the vehicle and the equipment installed. Target Group The target group of these installation instructions is specialists trained on BMW passenger cars. Tasks Independently carry out all maintenance, repair, installation and readjustment operations on passenger cars. All jobs are to be performed in a rational order, using applicable BMW - workshop manuals - wiring diagrams - maintenance handbooks - work instructions - diagnosis handbooks with the specified tools (special tools), observing applicable health and safety regulations. Notes on assembly Knowledge of electrics/electronics is required. All operations are illustrated on left-hand drive vehicles. Proceed in a mirror-image manner on right-hand drive vehicles. The trim panel in front of the navigation computer in the left-hand side of the luggage compartment is colour-dependent. The part appropriate to the vehicle's equipment must be ordered separately in accordance with the electronics parts catalogue (ETK). Safety precautions When routing cables or wires, ensure that the cables/wires are not kinked or damaged. Additional wires and cables must be secured with cable ties. If the pin terminals stated are already allocated, bridges, double crimps or parallel circuits must be established. .4 Encoding This system is relevant to encoding. The system must be encoded, if necessary together with the control units of other vehicle systems, to ensure that the retrofit system is: - fully operational - networked to the vehicle's other electrical system in such a manner that faults and malfunctions can be ruled out. Moreover, the encoding is stored in the central encoding key of the IKE. This encoding is automatically conducted with path "Retrofit" of the current valid encoding program. The program is user-guided. Take care to ensure that the instructions for each step are observed. The retrofit code for this product is included from version 7.0 onwards. Procedure: - onnect DIS/MoDi to the vehicle - Ignition "ON" - Select "Encoding ZS" - Enter date and confirm with "Y" (only MoDi) - Model series "E39" - Path " Retrofit" - System "7 Navigation" On programs older than V, the following operations must also be performed: - Path " Initial encoding" - System "8 Navigation" - Start automatic encoding (confirm with "Y") - Ignition "OFF", wait at least 0 seconds, then switch ignition "ON" again - Print out encoding label and attach this next to the existing encoding label in the right-hand side of the luggage compartment on the metal retainer next to the battery. Print out fault memory Insert D ROM road map into navigation computer Perform a function check Language coding This system is not relevant to language coding. The different languages can automatically be selected in the instrument cluster. Safety coding If installed in US vehicles, safety coding must be performed, according to current workshop documents.
