Safety Instructions Instruction Sheet English Trolleys for EP 48-V WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. Intended Use The trolley is used to position a hot melt application head EP 48-V in a binder and to set the gluing distance. Any other use is considered to be unintended. Nordson will not be liable for personal injury or property damage resulting from unintended use. Intended use includes the observance of Nordson safety instructions. Unintended Use Examples The trolley may not be used under the following conditions: In defective condition In a potentially explosive atmosphere. Residual Risks In the design of the unit, every measure was taken to protect personnel from potential danger. However, some residual risks can not be avoided. Personnel should be aware of, among other things, the following: Risk of pinching fingers near the height adjuster. 00 Nordson Corporation Trolley_EP 48-V
Description Series Overview There are special trolleys designed to accommodate the various binders. Their outward appearance differs, but the concept is essentially the same. The illustrations in this manual use the model Normbinder as an example. Special features are always to be considered, whether this is explicitly mentioned or merely inferred. Trolley Special features P/N 78508 Drive unit (P/N 78539) for encoder included in scope of delivery Lock with screw/handwheel () Normbinder Normbinders built before 986 also require: Guide with lever Normbinder, P/N 7060 P/N 785 Drive unit (P/N 7855) for encoder included in scope of delivery Lock () on binder side: Starbinder Trolley_EP 48-V 00 Nordson Corporation

6 Function and Components 3 4 5 8 When the application head is attached to the Nozzle plate (), the trolley is slid along the Guide rails () into the binder and then fixed in place with the Lock (5). The gluing distance (space between the book spine and application slit) can be modified with the Height adjuster (4). The nozzle plate can be swiveled within a certain range. If a book bumps the application head (e.g. due to an incorrect setting), the Crash protection () is triggered: The nozzle plate swivels down The Nozzle plate switch (3) transmits a signal to turn off the binder. The T-Box (8) loops the signal from the switch and another signal (usually General fault from the melter) into the signal path of the binder. Drive Unit for Encoder NOTE: The drive unit for the encoder must be assembled separately. Refer to section Installation. The encoder (, order accessories separately) supplies to a Pattern controller (separate component of a bookbinding system) an input signal proportional to the speed of the binder drive shaft (3). 3 Trolley_EP 48-V 00 Nordson Corporation
7 Installation Unpacking. Unpack carefully and check for damage caused during transport.. Unscrew all transport brackets () from the trolley. WARNING: Risk of squash. Keep in mind that the equipment is very heavy. Lift only with a suitable floor conveyor (fork lift) or a crane. If ropes are used, ensure that they are positioned such that they can not damage the trolley. 3. Lift the trolley off of the pallet. 4. Save pallet and fastening and packing material for later use, or dispose of properly according to local regulations. Setting Up the Trolley for the Binder Adjusting Height Set the height such that the casters are about mm above the floor when the trolley is slid along the guide rails and into the binder. Trendbinder Model. Release the frame (8 screws in slots ()).. Release the adjusting screw () locknut. 3. Set the height with the adjusting screw. 4. Tighten the adjusting screw () locknut. 5. Fasten the frame in place. Other Models. Release the caster clamp ().. Adjust the casters. 3. Tighten the clamp. 00 Nordson Corporation Trolley_EP 48-V
8 Attaching Lock NOTE: Applies only to Normbinder model.. Set the end stops (). This ensures that the same position is reached every time the unit is slid into place.. Screw the included lock (3) into the binder such that the screw () firmly grasps the threaded bore (4). 3 4 Attaching Drive Unit for Encoder. Attach the separable chain wheel () to the drive shaft (3).. Place the bearing block (5) loosely on a mounting shaft () such that the chain wheels line up. 3. Put the chain (4) into place and secure it with the closing link. 4. Tighten the chain: Turn the bearing block and tighten the clamp. 5. Lay the encoder power cable such that it does not touch rotating and/or hot parts. 39 7 6 5 4 3 Mounting shafts (binder) Separable chain wheel 3 Drive shaft (binder) Note: Example of mounting and drive shafts 4 Chain 5 Bearing block 6 Coupling 7 Encoder (accessory) Trolley_EP 48-V 00 Nordson Corporation
9 Mounting Application Head Also refer to the application head manual. Screw the application head onto the nozzle plate. Depending on the binder, the included support plate () may be needed to roughly adjust the vertical position of the head. Fine adjustment (Adjusting Gluing Distance) is done later with the height adjuster. Connecting T-box Refer to the wiring diagram of the respective unit and the T-box. Lay the cable such that it does not touch rotating and/or hot parts. Operation NOTE: The trolley and the application head EP 48-V are components of a bookbinding system. Also refer to relevant documents as well as to the manuals for the individual system components. Crash Protection: Setting Sensitivity If crash protection is triggered when no Crash has occurred, the sensitivity of the setting can be reduced:. Locate the crash protection (; either one or two, depending on which trolley) on the nozzle plate.. Release locknut (3). 3. Turn the adjusting screw () clockwise approx. one revolution. 4. Tighten locknut. 3 00 Nordson Corporation Trolley_EP 48-V
0 Adjusting Gluing Distance NOTE: The gluing distance and pre-treatment of the spine are the most important aspects of application with the EP 48-V book binding system.. Align a book to the application head.. Set the largest possible book thickness (application width) to be able to see the application slit well. 3. Slide a sensor gauge of 0.4 mm between the book and the application slit. 4. Set the distance with the aid of the height adjuster: If the sensor gauge can be moved between the book and the application slit with little effort, the gluing distance is set correctly. Height adjustment 3 4 The correct height depends on the trolley: A. on the binder B. on the trolley itself: With the crank () or handwheel () Release clamp (4) to adjust. Resetting Height Adjuster Counter to Zero. Release the setscrew in the knurled screw (3).. Turn the knurled screw until the counter indicates 0. 3. Tighten the setscrew.
