omnigrd S TR 88 Ares of ppliction Chemicl industry Energy industry Function nd system design Mesuring principle In the RTD (Resistnce Temperture Detector) thermometers, the sensing element consists of n electricl resistnce with vlue of 100 Ω t 0 C (clled Pt 100, in complince with stndrd DIN EN 60751) which increses t higher tempertures ccording to coefficient chrcteristic of the resistor mteril (pltinum). In industril thermometers tht comply with the DIN EN 60751 stndrd, the vlue of this coefficient is α = 3.85*10-3 C -1, clculted between 0 nd 100 C. Equipment rchitecture The Omnigrd S TR 88 temperture sensor is mde up of mesurement probe, n extension neck with thermowell connection nd housing (hed), which my contin trnsmitter or the terminls on the cermic block for electricl connection. Construction of the sensor is bsed on the following stndrds: DIN 43729 (housing), 43772 (neck) nd 43735 (probe), nd cn therefore gurntee, together with suitble thermowell, good level of resistnce to the most typicl nd common industril processes. The mesurement probe (insert) is tensioned by mens of springs nd therefore mintined in contct with the lower bse of protection thermowell to enhnce the het trnsfer. The sensing element (Pt 100) is positioned close to the tip of the probe. The TR 88 cn be fitted on the plnt (tube or tnk) through the use of the connection to the thermowell, which cn be purchsed seprtely. The electricl structure of the thermometer lwys complies with DIN EN 60751 stndrd rules. The sensing element is vilble in two versions with thin film (TF) or wire wound (WW), the ltter with lrge mesurement nd ccurcy rnge. The housing cn be of different types nd mterils (plstic, pinted luminium lloy, stinless steel). The wy in which it fits to extension neck nd the cble glnd ensure minimum grde of IP65 (Ingress Protection). omnigrd S TR 88 Electronics The required type of output signl cn be obtined by choosing the correct hed-mounted trnsmitter. Endress+Huser supplies "stte-of-the-rt" trnsmitters (the itemp series) built in 2-wire technology nd with 4 20 ma output signl, HART or PROFIBUS-PA. All of the trnsmitters cn be esily progrmmed using personl computer through the RedWin 2000 public domin softwre (for trnsmitters 4 20 ma nd HART ) or the Commuwin II softwre (for PROFIBUS- PA trnsmitters). The HART trnsmitters cn lso be progrmmed with the hnd-held operting module DXR 275 (Universl HART Communictor). A PCP (4 20 ma, TMT 180) model with enhnced ccurcy is vilble. In the cse of PROFIBUS-PA trnsmitters, E+H recommends the use of PROFIBUS dedicted connectors. The Weidmüller type (Pg 13.5 - M12) is provided s stndrd option. For detiled informtion bout trnsmitters, plese refer to the relevnt documenttion (refer to the TI codes t the end of the document). If hed-mounted trnsmitter is not employed, the sensor probe cn be connected through the terminl block to remote converter (i.e. DIN ril trnsmitter). Generlly speking, in the "4 wires" configurtion there is higher gurntee of ccurcy. The "2-wire" connection, used in the version of the ATEX certified insert, my crete n dditionl error due to the resistnce of the copper conductors of the minerl insulted cble; such resistnce is dded to the vlue of the Pt 100. The incidence of this source of inccurcy increses with the increse of the insertion length. omnigrd S TR 88 Instlltion Omnigrd S TR 88 thermometers cn be mounted on thermowells instlled on pipes, tnks or other plnt prts tht my require them. In the cse of ATEX-certified components (trnsmitter, insert), plese refer to the relevnt documenttion (refer to the code t the end of this document). Immersion length my hve n effect on the ccurcy of the mesurement. If the immersion is too low, n error my be generted in the temperture recorded due to the lower temperture of the process fluid ner to the wlls nd het trnsfer, which tkes plce through the sensor stem. The incidence of such n error cn be not negligible if there is big difference between the process temperture nd the mbient temperture. In order to void this source of inccurcy, the thermowell should hve smll dimeter nd the immersion length (L) should be, if possible, t lest 100 mm. In pipes of smll section the xis line of the duct must be reched nd if possible slightly exceeded by the tip of the probe (refer to fig. 2A-2B). Insultion of the outer prt of the sensor reduces the effect produced by low immersion. Another solution my be tilted instlltion (see fig. 2C-2D). L L TR88_g_id_07_XX_01 Fig. 2: Instlltion exmples With regrd to corrosion, it is very importnt to choose the correct bse mteril for the thermowell; Endress+Huser offers wide rnge of thermowells suitble for ll kinds of pplictions. For further informtion on specific pplictions, plese contct the E+H Customer Service Deprtment. In the cse tht the sensor components re disssembled, in the following ressembly procedure the definite torques must be employed. This will ssure the housings with the IP grde protection defined. When the surrounding environment hs high humidity rte nd the process is t low temperture, plstic housing is recommended (i.e. model TA20B) to void problems due to condenstion. In the cse of vibrtions the thin film sensing element (TF) my offer dvntges, but the behviour depends on the intensity, the direction nd the dominting frequency in the vibrtion mode. The wire wound Pt 100 (WW), besides hving lrger mesurement nd ccurcy rnge, gurntees greter long term stbility. Upon request, the Customer Service of E+H cn verify through clcultion the resistnce of thermowells t specific operting conditions (pressure, temperture, fluid velocity) tking into ccount lso the forces nd vibrtions generted by the flow. omnigrd S TR 88 System components Housing The housing, which contins the electric terminls or the trnsmitter, is vilble in different types nd mterils, e.g. plstic, pinted luminium lloy nd stinless steel. The coupling method with the rest of the probe nd the glnd for the cble entry ensures minimum IP65 grde (refer lso to fig. 3). All vilble heds hve internl geometry ccording to DIN 43729 stndrd (form B), nd thermometer connection M24x1.5. Hed type TA20A is the bsic E+H luminium housing for temperture sensors. It is supplied in the E+H corporte colours, without ny extr chrge. Hed TA20B is blck polymide housing, sometimes referred to s the BBK in the Temperture mrket. A screw cp is employed in TA21E nd is joined to the hed body by chin. The TA20D hed (luminium), lso referred to s BUZH, is ble to contin bord nd trnsmitter or two trnsmitters t the sme time. The order of the double trnsmitter must be crried out by choosing the option "flying wires" in the sles structure, nd two trnsmitters in seprte position (THT1, see the tble t the end of the document). The TA20J hed is stinless steel housing used in other instruments mde by E+H nd cn be provided with LCD disply (4 digits), which opertes with 4 20 ma trnsmitters. The TA20R is normlly recommended by the Temperture division of E+H for hygienic pplictions. The TA20W (BUS type) is round blue/grey coloured hed mde of luminium, with clip for the cp closure. The cble glnd M20x1.5 provided with the housings, is comptible with cbles of dimeter between 5 nd 9 mm. The TMT 180 nd the TMT 181 (see fig. 4) re PC progrmmble trnsmitters. The TMT 180 is lso vilble in version with enhnced ccurcy (0.1 C vs. 0.2 C) in the temperture rnge -50 250 C, nd in version with fixed mesurement rnge (specified by the customer in the order phse). The TMT 182 output consists of 4 20 ma nd HART superimposed signls. For the TMT 184 (see fig. 5), with PROFIBUS-PA output signl, the communiction ddress my be set vi softwre or vi mechnicl dip-switch. It is constituted by n 11 mm tube in SS 316L/1.4404 (fig. 6), whose stndrd length (E) cn be chosen mong the following vlues: 80 mm 100 mm 155 mm (normlly used for length L = 110 mm of thermowells DIN 43772 Form 4) 165 mm (normlly used for other lengths of thermowells DIN 43772 Form 4/4F) 200 mm. Other sizes re vilble on request. The connection situted in the upper prt of the neck llows for orienttion of the sensor hed. As illustrted by the chrt in figure 7, the length of the extension neck my influence the temperture in the hed. It is necessry tht this temperture is kept within the limit vlues defined in the prgrph "Operting conditions". The configurtion Pt 100 double with 2 wires (clss B) is only vilble for the ATEX certified inserts. The use of stndrd dimensions (extension neck nd length of immersion) llows for the use inserts on sensors of different kinds nd gurntees rpid delivery times; this llows our customers to reduce the mount of spre prts to be kept on stock.
