Key Respnsibilities Safety Manager The designated Safety Manager is respnsible fr develping and maintaining the prgram and related prcedures. These prcedures are kept in the designated safety manager s ffice. Site Manager Respnsible fr the implementatin and maintenance f the prgram fr their site and ensuring all assets are made available fr cmpliance with the plan. Emplyees All shall be familiar with this prcedure and the lcal wrkplace vehicle safety prgram. Fllw all requirements, reprt unsafe cnditins, and fllw all psted requirements. Vehicle and Transprtatin Related Driving Safety Operatrs f r client n r ff rad vehicles shall be qualified by pssessin f a valid, current driver s license fr the type f vehicle being driven. Only authrized emplyees will drive a mtr vehicle in the curse and scpe f wrk r perate a cmpany wned vehicle. Drivers shall have 3 years f driving experience n the vehicle he/she is licensed t drive & regularly drives. Drivers will be apprpriately assessed, licensed and trained t perate the vehicle they have been authrized t perate. N passengers shall be n trucks used t deliver gds. Backing is prhibited whenever practicable. Where backing is required, drivers, when parking, shuld make every effrt t park the vehicle in a manner that allws the first mve when leaving the parking space t be frward. Any vehicle with nn-segregated strage shall be equipped with a carg net r equivalent t separate the strage area. Vehicles (light vehicles, heavy vehicles and trailers) may nt be mdified withut the endrsement f the manufacturer. Signs, stickers r labels are t be fitted in such a manner that they d nt bstruct the driver's visin r impede the driver's use f any cntrls. Emplyees driving vehicles are required t fllw safe driving practices: Obey all federal and lcal driving laws r regulatins as well as requirements f clients; Immediately reprt any citatin, warning, traffic vilatin, cllisin, vehicle damage r near miss assciated with cmpany r client vehicle peratin r while driving n cmpany duties t the supervisr; Immediately reprt any restrictin r change t their driving privileges t the supervisr. Seat belts shall always be wrn by all ccupants whenever the vehicle is in mtin; nly seats fitted with three-pint inertia-reel type seatbelts shall be used. All vehicles capable f mre than 10 mph/15 kph shall have seat belts installed. Defensive drivers cntinually assess cnditins and hazards and remain prepared fr any challenge that may apprach them; When speaking with a passenger, always keep yur eyes n the rad; Bth hands n the wheel; N use f cell phnes, radis r ther electrnic devices while driving any vehicle - vehicle must be safely parked prir t using a mbile phne r 2-way radi. Drivers are t be prepared befre leaving: Perfrm 360 walk arund reprt new damage; Check windshield fr cracks that culd interfere with visin; Inspect fr vehicle damage and immediately reprt any damage t the supervisr if nt previusly bserved; Make sure dirt r snw is remved frm lights n all sides f the vehicle; Brush r clean ff snw r ice n all windws t ensure cmplete visin; Check fuel level t be certain the destinatin can be reached; Check t ensure the license plates and inspectin tag n vehicle are current; Ensure that there is a first aid kit and inspected fire extinguisher in the cmpany vehicle; Ensure driver is rested and alert fr driving; Emplyees are nt t perfrm repairs r maintenance ther than rutine fluid additins. N vehicle less than 1000 kg is t be used n public rads. Tires, including spares if full size, are t be f same type, prfile and tread pattern, except when the vehicle r tire Manufacturer recmmends a different type fr certain axles. Tire type and pattern is t be recmmended by the vehicle r tire manufacturer fr use n the vehicle in the area f peratin. Vehicles are t be fitted with a spare wheel and changing equipment t safely change a wheel, r a suitable alternative. Vehicles lnger than 6 meters/20 feet r with restricted rear view (i.e. pickup trucks that are fully laded) are t be fitted with an audible reversing alarm. All seats are t be fitted with headrests All light duty vehicles (including buses) are t be equipped with an adjustable left, right and central rear view mirrrs Lads shall be secure and shall nt exceed the manufacturer s specificatins and legal limits fr the vehicle. All vehicles are t be equipped with a multipurpse fire extinguisher with a capacity f at least 0.9 kg/2 lb. The fire extinguisher shall be securely munted n a bracket and lcated s that it is easily accessible in an emergency withut becming a hazard in case f an incident. All light vehicles shall be equipped with a securely stwed first aid kit. All drivers f light vehicles shall carry a high visibility jacket fr use in case f emergency stps. All light duty vehicles carry a minimum f ne cllapsible hazard warning triangle. Rllver prtectin will be installed in any vehicle t address high risk envirnments. The rllver prtectin engineered will cnfrm t recgnized regulatry standard and industry preferred practices. All light equipment vehicles shall be utfitted with tw red high-intensity lights lcated as high, as far apart, and as far back as practical, wired t the headlight switch, but als with an verride switch, if permitted by lcal regulatins. Transprtatin If wrkers are required t travel in a wrker transprtatin vehicle must ensure that reasnable measures are taken t evaluate rad, weather and traffic cnditins t ensure the safe transit f the wrkers. The peratr f a wrker transprtatin vehicle must ensure that the wrker transprtatin vehicle has been inspected by a qualified persn befre first use n a wrk shift. Seated wrkers must wear seat belts while being transprted in a vehicle equipped with seat belts. A wrker must nt ride in a vehicle in a standing psitin, unless prtected frm being thrwn ff balance. A wrker must nt ride in a vehicle with any part f the bdy utside the vehicle unless essential t the wrk prcess and then nly if the wrker is adequately restrained. Traffic Cntrl shall develp, in writing, and implement a traffic prtectin plan fr its wrkers at a wrksite if any f them may be expsed t a hazard frm vehicular r pedestrian traffic that may endanger the safety f any wrker. It shall include the fllwing cntrl measures: Effective means f traffic cntrl shall be prvided whenever the unregulated mvement f vehicular traffic cnstitutes a hazard t wrkers. Traffic cntrl shall include barricades and cnes as the primary cntrl and, where required, signs, flagmen r ther techniques and devices made necessary by the prevailing circumstances. Operatins r equipment, encraching n the traveled way, shall be prtected by barricades and cnes as the primary cntrl and, where required ther effective devices. must train wrkers in the traffic cntrl safe wrk prcedures. will ensure that befre a wrker is designated as a flag persn, the wrker is trained in the safe wrk prcedures fr the safe cntrl f traffic peratins and wears the apprpriate high visibility uter clthing and/r equipment. If a wrker at a prject n a highway may be endangered by vehicular traffic unrelated t the prject, the prject shall make use f as many measures as necessary t adequately prtect the wrker. A wrker wh is required t set up r remve traffic cntrl measures n a radway r a shulder f a radway shall be a cmpetent wrker, shall be equipped with the apprpriate high visibility apparel, shall nt perfrm any ther wrk while setting up r remving the measures and shall be given adequate written and ral instructins in a language that he r she understands, with respect t setting up r remving the measures. ATV Vehicles If an wrk site utilizes ATV vehicles then the fllwing shall apply: If the manufacturer has nt set limits fr peratin f the ATV n slping grund, 5% is the maximum allwable slpe unless has develped and implemented written safe wrk prcedures apprpriate fr any steeper slpe n which the equipment is t be used. must ensure that each ATV peratr is prperly licensed and trained in the safe peratin f the vehicle. The training prgram fr an ATV peratr must cver: the peratr's pre-trip inspectin, use f persnal prtective apparel, perating skills accrding t the ATV manufacturer's instructins, basic mechanical requirements, and Uncntrlled cpy if printed. An ATV peratr and any passenger n an ATV must wear apprved eye and hearing prtectin as required by lcal regulatry requirements and the PPE Prgram. Lading and unlading f an ATV nt r ff a carrier vehicle must be dne in a safe manner. If ramps are used when lading r unlading an ATV they must be placed at a suitable angle, be sufficiently wide and have a surface finish which prvides an adequate grip fr the ATV's tires.
