FUTURE TECHNOLOGY CLASSIC EMOTIONS
FOR PIRELLI, INNOVATION IS A TRADITION With a rich tradition of motorsport behind it, Pirelli has breathed new life into historic rallying with the P7 TM Corsa Classic range. Rather than a new version, this is an innovative reinterpretation of the Competition King : the tyre used in groups 1-2-4, A and B. P7 TM Corsa Classic combines the latest generation of structure and tread pattern with the unvaried design of the sidewall, making it the winning combination between innovation and tradition. During the tyre development, Pirelli engineers used the same parameters to maintain the car s intended set-up and dynamics. The result is performance, style and authenticity.
DRY VERSION It is developed from the asymmetrical pattern that has characterised the very best Pirelli Ultra High Performance tyres. This is how the dry P7 TM Corsa Classic transforms its multipurpose design into grip: A A generous inner tread blocks to optimize directionality B An outer semi-slick pattern ensures maximummum lateral grip in the dry, together with a solid centre rib to ensure a precise line even at high speeds. s. A B
WET VERSION This is characterised by an asymmetric tread pattern divided into three areas, which ensure excellent road-holding both in damp and wet conditions, outstanding structural durability, maximum lateral stability and consistent performance levels in the heat of competition. A B C A A densely grooved inner tread block pattern increases water dispersal and prevents aquaplaning. B Two longitudinal grooves divide the centre section providing moreprecise turn-in and driveability in the wet. C Thinner grooves and more solid blocks on the outside of the tyre lead to improved lateral grip yet maintain efficient water evacuation.
IDEAL COMPOUNDS FOR THE BEST PERFORMANCE P7 TM Corsa Classic offers an innovative solution for historic rallying, striking exactly the right balance between looks and performance to satisfy the most ardent drivers and collectors of rally cars from the golden age of the sport. On top of this, it is optimised to excel under a huge variety of different weather conditions and surfaces, according to the chosen compound. D3 Hard dry version for use on stages longer than 20 km, with very abrasive asphalt and temperatures of over 25 C. D5 Medium dry version for use on stages with average asphalt in temperatures of 10 to 30 C. D7 Soft dry version for use on stages with smooth asphalt with temperatures from 0 C to 15 C. It behaves very well on mixed damp and dry surfaces. W7 Wet version. Not Only recommended for full wet conditions but also for mixed wet to damp conditions. TECHNICAL INFORMATION TYRE IDENTIFICATION The markings that appear on the sidewall of the tyres indicate the basic size of the tyre and the rim diameter. The examples reported below illustrate how to read two different types of marking that appear on the sidewall of rally tyres. C Tread Width D h d Rim Width MARKING Nominal section width expressed in mm Nominal external diameter expressed in mm Nominal rim diameter, expressed in inches 235 610 16 Nominal section width expressed in mm C D d C h/c d Technical series. This expresses the ratio between the section height (in mm) and the nominal section width (in mm) Radial construction Nominal rim diameter, expressed in inches 225 45 R 16 The tread compounds of the different versions of P7 TM Corsa Classic tyres are described by one letter followed by a number. The letter identify the type of tread: dry (D) or wet (W). The number after the letter indicates the compound: the smaller this number, the harder the compound. For example: D 7 D tread design 7 compound level RIMS The size of the rims indicated in this manual must be respected. If you have any doubts, please contact Pirelli staff.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION TREAD TEMPERATURES Temperatures measured on the tread are an excellent indicator for deciding the best choice of tread compound and for optimising the vehicle setup for each wheel position, such as camber and toe. We recommend measuring the temperature at three different points: inner (innermost side of the vehicle), centre, outer tread. In particular, average temperatures must be the ones suggested in the section Ideal compounds for the best performance, the difference between the values measured internally, in the center and externally must be maximum 20 C, while the difference between the front and rear axles must be no more than 25 C. If these values are exceeded, we recommend the use of a different tread compound or that the vehicle s geometry should be adjusted. DELTA MAX 20 C Initial inflation pressures vary in order to obtain these values, depending on whether the tyres are preheated or used cold. Indeed, preheated tyres can be inflated to slightly lower values than cold tyres. The difference will depend on the type of heater, the time it remains and the environmental conditions. DELTA MAX 25 C PRESSURE Working pressure values depend on the size of the tyre in relation to the load that it is subjected to. In other words, it will vary according to the type of car, the weight and conditions of use. In particular, as the weight of the vehicle, speeds and accelerations that the tyre is subjected to increase, the working pressure must be increased. In any case, tyres should not be used at pressures below 1.6 bar. Using excessively low pressures can cause damage to the tyre due to excess stress on the sidewall or unseating from the rim. Hot working pressures are usually in the range of 2.2 2.5 bar. FITMENT Make sure that tyres are fitted by experts with specialised dedicated machinery and equipment, following the safety procedures. Before assembling the tyres, clean the surface of the beads and the area of the rim that comes into contact with the tyre. Use ONLY special tyre lubricants for mounting tyres. Do NOT use silicone or petroleum lubricants. Check the state of the valves to prevent air loss: check the seals and the tightness for metal ones and check also for any tears or cracks in rubber seals. If necessary, replace them. When the tyre is being used, always use the valve cap. Follow the indications provided on the sidewall of the tyre referring to the rolling direction and the correct positioning of the internal and external sidewalls, if specified. Use the safety cage when inflating tyres. Before unseating the tyre from the rim during dismounting, make sure that the tyre has been fully deflated, removing the inner valve mechanism.
