For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information. NOTE: Before replacing O Sensor or O Sensor Module, check aftertreatment wiring harness for spread terminals. For wiring harness checking procedure, DO NOT back probe, use Electric Terminal Tool Kit Electric Terminal Tool Kit 897A. Theory of Operation The engine aftertreatment system monitors the oxygen content in the exhaust. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the exhaust gases for oxygen content and varies the fuel injector on time to control the intake air fuel mixture. This diagnostic monitors the delta reading between the upstream and downstream O Sensors. The PCM will illuminate the MIL lamp when the diagnostic runs and fails in two drive cycles. The PCM will turn off the MIL lamp diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles. When Monitored: This diagnostic runs when the engine is running. Set Condition: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will set the fault if the delta reading between the O Sensors is too large. Possible Causes O SENSORS O SENSOR MODULE NOX ABSORBER CATALYST LEAKING OR DAMAGED Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. (Refer to 8 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/. OTHER DTC. Turn the ignition on.. With the scan tool, read DTCs. Are there any other O Sensor related DTCs present? Yes Repair other O Sensor related DTCs first. No Go To. ACTIVE DTC. Turn the ignition on.. With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.. Turn the ignition off for 7 seconds.. Start the engine and drive the vehicle at 0 MPH. Perform a zero fueling event (decel condition for 0 seconds, with foot off of accelerator pedal). Repeat - times.. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return? Yes Go To Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION -.7L test procedure. (Refer to 8 - DTC-Based Diagnostics/. OXYGEN SENSOR SOOTED. Remove the O Sensors.. Carefully clean the soot from the O Sensor. NOTE:. Reinstall the O Sensors. Do not tap or bang the sensor to remove loose debris. This will damage the sensor.. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.. Turn the ignition off for 7 seconds.. Start the engine and drive the vehicle at 0 MPH. Perform a zero fueling event (decel condition for 0 seconds, with foot off of accelerator pedal). Repeat - times. 7. With the scan tool, read DTCs. Did the DTC reset? Yes Replace both O Sensors in accordance with the service information. Go To. INSPECT THE AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM. Perform the AFTERTREATMENT INSPECTION GUIDELINE procedure. (Refer to 9 - Non-DTC Diagnostics/ Drivability - Diesel - Diagnosis and Testing). Were any problems found? Yes Perform the appropriate repair. No Go To. OXYGEN SENSOR MODULE.
Did the DTC reset? Yes Replace the O Sensor Module in accordance with the service information.
