EDUARD MAY 2007 RELEASES May 3rd, 2007 After releasing the new 72nd scale Ni-17 last month, we are following up with a fresh newcomer for May. It is the Czech Avia B.534. Some could complain that it is a boring subject, and still others actually wonder what it is. This is what I would expect, actually, after the introduction of the first test shots in Telford last year. The most frequent feedback was: yeah finely! a new Fury! That response was pretty amazing, as this is no Fury, sorry. I understand that it might ve held more interest for many people, particularly in Britain, Belgium and Spain. However, this is the Czech Avia. We are, after all, a Czech company, and this aircraft holds a special place in our hearts, and in the hearts of our domestic customers. This is for a couple of reasons, one of them being that this is probably the most famous of all Czech aircraft, at least of those taking part in WW II. I already wrote something about this aircraft s history in the April newsletter, and a more detailed look is contained within the instruction sheet cover page. Another reason is that a 1/72nd scale Avia B-534 was one of the first kits produced in Czechoslovakia some 35 years ago, and most Czech modelers were introduced to this art via this kit, and this subject. In fact, it was of enough importance, as a subject, in Czechoslovakia, that the foundation for the modeling industry was laid through it, and evolved to attain the current levels we see today in our country. So when we decided to release a new 1/48th scale Avia B.534, we wanted to make certain to do this subject at the level it deserves. Finally we applied all of our new and progressive methods, and a new level of detailing, to this kit. At first glance, the kit may look somewhat traditional, but the features are really in the engineering of this kit. It possesses a truly builder friendly quality, and I must confess I feel that this kit is at the top of our biplane production, and maybe not only within that genre. If I am asked, which Eduard kit is the best produced, my answer is the Avia B.534. We have never produced anything better. But, of course, the Bf110s are soon coming...
KITS IN MAY - Avia B-534 III.serie, 1/48 There are two main faces of the Avia B.534; the older version, with an open cockpit, and the later variant with an enclosed cockpit and what could be best described as a Razorback style. Later, during WW II, some open canopy aircraft in Slovakian and German units were retrofitted with a new, bubble type canopy. Among the type s bloodline, which contains some five major members, we are going to produce two, the Series III, representing the open cockpit types, and the Series IV, encompassing the Razorback lines. The Avia B.534 Series III is the first coming to the market in May. The boxing is well within the current Eduard standard, with color PE frame, masking sheet and decal sheet with four marking options. Once again, I must stress the plastic with superb surface details. Open and Razorback cockpits The second May release is the well known Mirage IIICJ, and this time, in the Weekend Edition boxing. KITS IN JUNE AND JULY Subsequent efforts will see us continue with the Avia B.534 Series IV (Razorback) next month, together with the Mirage IIIC in the Weekend Edition line. There will be a new set of figures in June, with RAF WW II Pilots, which will be a very nice set of six figures, with five pilots and one mechanic. July will see another Fw 190A, in this case the A-6. New figure sets will continue, with the addition of a
set containing six Russian pilots and ground crew. A 1/48th scale Mirage 2000N (ex-airfix/heller) is also scheduled for July, in the Limited Edition line. PHOTOETCHED SETS IN MAY May should be a pleasant month for all ship builders. There are three new Navy sets in the May listing, two of them are designed for the 1/350 scale Arizona, the third was developed for the magnificent new Italeri PT 596 torpedo boat. 53016 USS Arizona 1/350 53025 Elco PT 596 1/35 There are just four 1/35th scale sets, two for Sturmtiger (Revell) and two for the British Sherman Mk.III (Dragon). 35959 Sturmtiger exterior 35960 Sturmtiger interior 35968 Sherman Mk.III 35972 Sherman Mk.III fenders
We are also continuing to release sets for the old Monogram 1/48th scale Marauder, and are crossing the scale boundary with sets for the new Hasegawa 1/72nd scale Marauder. Besides the Marauder sets, there are plenty of new helicopter sets this month, some 6 besides the Zoom sets. Note the 1/72nd scale set for the F4U-1 Corsair Birdcage (Tamiya), and 1/48th scale Kittyhawk Mk.III set (Hasegawa). 72465 B-26B/C Marauder exterior + bomb bay That s all for today. We have some shows here in the Czech Republic in May and June, and we are going to play soccer in Poland in mid May. It should prove to be a fun month! Happy modeling!
