Selection of the appropriate system is primarily dependant on the desired application as well as requirements such as load capacity, design or available space. Series 25 Typical applications of the mk Profile System 2000 Series 25 are for trade shows, electronics and small equipment. From light frames, displays, cabinets and shelving to prototypes, measurement and test equipment, control panels and electronic enclosures. Series As the most extensive system, Series is the basis for lighter machine frames, enclosures and guarding, workstations and our GTP system (Railings, Stairs and Platforms). Series 50 The structural profiles of Series 50 are designed for higher static loads in such areas as machine building, heavy machine frames and other load bearing structures. Series 60 The profiles of Series 60 were designed for applications which were historically the realm of steel construction. Using M12 connectors, the rigidity and load capacity of this series can be fully utilized. 14 mk Systems Profile Technology

Standards, Norms and Calculations mk profiles are extruded aluminum and are available in standard lengths of 5100 mm. Profiles are available cut to length. Longer lengths may also be available on request. All structural profiles are chemically etched per E6, whereby surface grooves and roughnesses are removed. As a surface treatment the profiles are anodized with appx. 10µm of tint C0 (natural). This surface finish is alkaline and acid resistant (alkalines to PH 9.5 and acids to PH 4). The following tables show the allowable dimensional deviations from standard with maximum values indicated. Alloys of mk Profiles Per DIN 17615 Precision Profiles mk uses primarily two alloys for all profile series. For Series 25 and, for Series 50 and 60, AlMgSi 0.7 F28, which has a higher strength. 6063T6 6005T6 3.3206.72 3.3210.71 AlMgSi 0.7 F28 Density 2.7 kg/dm 3 2.7 kg/dm 3 E-Modulus 70.000 N/mm 2 70.000 N/mm 2 Rm 245 N/mm 2 270 N/mm 2 Rp0.2 195 N/mm 2 225 N/mm 2 Reduction of Area 10 % 8 % Hardness HB 75 90 Linear Expansion 23.4 10-6 1/K 23.4 10-6 1/K Thermal Conductivity 200-220 W/(m K) 180-220 W/(m K) Electrical Conductivity 38-34 m/(ω mm 2 ) 26-32 m/(ω mm 2 ) Squareness of cross-section all values in mm D W over Width W Range to Deviation from square of cross-section D - 0.20 60 0.30 60 90 0. 90 120 0.45 120 150 0.55 150 180 0.65 180 210 0.70 24 mk Systems Profile Technology

Determining the Deflection of the System Profiles The Deflection of the mk Structural Profiles can be ascertained mathematically as well as through the use of the ensuing logarithmic charts. Using the graphs is the fastest way of determining deflection. This method can also help recommend a profile given allowable deflection under a particular length/load situation. Using the given equation is recommended to determine exact deflection. The examples shown here are limited to profiles supported at both ends with a single load at the center an evenly distributed load As the weight of the beam itself can be considered an evenly distributed load, the deflection due to this can be taken from the graph Deflection due to evenly distributed load, or calculated as shown in the example equation. To determine the total deflection of overlapping profiles the deflection of the individual beams may be added (note to include the applied load as well as the weight of the beam). Consider the following application: A machine frame is constructed using Profile mk 2025.02, oriented vertically, as the top beams. This frame is 1525 mm long on one side. A surface plate is placed on these beams, which exerts a force of 237 N/m (distributed load) on this profile. A piece of equipment is placed onto the surface plate, which exerts an additional force of 750 N (point load) on the beam. This example is shown in the calculations at right. Caution! Die examples shown are only valid for in relation to beam lengths relatively small deflections! Example: Series 25 Deflection calculation using point load and weight of beam Load: f Point = 250 N q Distr. = 237 N/m L = 1585 mm Profile: mk 2025.02 (25 x 50 vertical) Using: I X = 12.19 cm 4 =^ 121900 mm 4 q Beam = 1.35 kg/m =^ 13.2 N/m E = 70000 N/m 2 (E-Modulus Alu) Deflection due to point load using the graph on page 29 f Point = 2.4 mm using the formula f f Point = Point L 3 = 250 N 1585 3 mm 3 48 E I X 48 70000 N/mm 2 121900 mm 4 f Point = 2.43 mm Deflection due to distributed weight of beam using the graph on page 30, with q = q Distr. + q Beam = 250 N/m = 2.4 mm f Distr. using the formula 5 q L 4 f Distr. = = 5 0.25 N/mm 1585 4 mm 4 384 E I x 384 70000 N/mm 2 121900 mm 4 f Distr. = 2.4 mm Total Deflection f Total = f Point + f Distr. = 2.4 mm + 2.4 mm f Total = 4.8 mm Caution! Ensure correct use of units. To be safe, compare calculations with the examples shown above. 28 mk Systems Profile Technology

Consider the following application: A machine frame is constructed using Profile mk 20.02, oriented vertically, as the top beams. This frame is 2500 mm long on one side. A surface plate is placed on these beams, which exerts a force of 315 N/m (distributed load) on this profile. A piece of equipment is placed onto the surface plate, which exerts an additional force of 750 N (point load) on the beam. This example is shown in the calculations at right. Caution! Die examples shown are only valid for in relation to beam lengths relatively small deflections! Example: Series Deflection calculation using point load and weight of beam Load: f Point = 750 N q Distr. = 315 N/m L = 2500 mm Profile: mk 20.02 ( x 80 vertical) Using: I x = 83.26 cm 4 =^ 832600 mm 4 q Beam = 3.62 kg/m =^ 35.5 N/m Deflection due to point load using the graph on page 39 f Point = 4 mm using the formula f Point L 3 = 750 N 2500 3 mm f 3 Point = 48 E I x 48 70000 N/mm 2 832600 mm 4 f Point = 4.2 mm Deflection due to distributed weight of beam using the graph on page, with q Total = q Distr. + q Beam = 350 N/m = 3 mm f Distr. using the formula 5 q L f Distr. = 4 = 5 0.35 N/mm 2500 4 mm 4 384 E I x 384 70000 N/mm 2 832600 mm 4 f Distr. = 3.05 mm Total Deflection f Total = f Point + f Distr. = 4.2 mm + 3.05 mm f Total = 7.25 mm Caution! Ensure correct use of units. To be safe, compare calculations with the examples shown above. 38 mk Systems Profile Technology

Drill System 2000 Series Flat Finish Profiles Series These profiles are identified by their smooth exterior surfaces. The absence of any gaps leaves contaminants no place to accumulate. The profiles are further designed to be completely standard system profiles, which is to say that they can be used with all assembly components. The T-slot can be opened, either partially or completely, with very little effort. In this instance, the T-slot cover can be removed with the parting tool. Designed exclusively for use with mk profiles, very little force is required. If a partial removal of the cover is desired, we recommend placing a drilled hole at the exact location using our drill fixture. Consider the following application: A machine frame is constructed using Profile mk 2004, oriented vertically, as the top beams. Example: Series 50 Deflection calculation using point load and weight of beam. Load: f Point = 750 N q Distr. = 315 N/m L = 2500 mm Profile: mk 2004 (50 x 100 vertical) Using: I x = 199 cm 4 =^ 1990000 mm 4 q Beam = 4.75 kg/m =^ 46.6 N/m Deflection due to point load using the graph on page 57 f Point = 1.7 mm using the formula f Point L 3 = 750 N 2500 3 mm 3 f Point = 48 E I x 48 70000 N/mm 2 1990000 mm 4 f Point = 1.75 mm Deflection due to distributed weight of beam using the graph on page 58 with q Total = q Distr. + q Beam = 362 N/m = 1.3 mm f Distr. using the formula 5 q L 4 = 5 0.362 N/mm 2500 4 mm f 4 Distr. = 384 E I x 384 70000 N/mm 2 1990000 mm 4 f Distr. = 1.32 mm Total Deflection f Total = f Point + f Distr. = 1.75 mm + 1.32 mm f Total = 3.07 mm ² 3.0 mm Caution! 76 mk Systems Profile Technology Profile Supports Foamed Profile A technological advantage unto itself, profile supports using this foam process create beams with enormous stability. They are heavily used as columns or supporting beams for mezzanines and machine frames. Foamed profiles are normally available in lengths of up to 5000 mm. On request, special lengths may be possible. Basically, this process is available to all profiles of series, 50 and 60. They are manufactured to customer specifications. Once foamed, the profiles can no longer be disassembled, and can also be used where dynamic loads are present.

Function Profiles Linear Technology Linear Technology The mk Linear Technology System consists of glide, recirculating ball and dual-row grooved roller bearings. Just a few basic elements are required for the construction of precision tracks and carriages. Detailed information regarding the selection and design of linear systems is available on request. The profiles shown on the following pages are designed primarily for use with the grooved roller bearings. Hardened steel rods are securely clamped over their entire length using precision clamping profiles which ensure exact parallel. The load ratings of the systems are dependant on the rod diameter selected. mk offers four guide rod diameters for the four profile series. ...* Profile length in mm Function Profiles Linear Technology Linear Technology System Layout The guide track is mounted directly to the base supporting profile, whereby attention must be paid to using compatible profile series and systems. Available adapter profiles provide options for additional combinations. The selection of a linear system is based of the desired support profile and rollers. When selecting a support profile, calculate both the deflection and the strength of the profile. For proper operation of our linear modules, total deflection cannot exceed 1 mm/m. Standard mechanical calculations as shown in the respective profile sections of this catalog are sufficient. Further information is available on request. General Information for Angles mk Angles mk Angles are manufactured from extruded aluminum profiles (AlMgSi 0.7 F28) and are milled perpendicular. They have a tumbled surface finish. We can also manufacture special angles using our angle profiles. mk Keyed Angles The keys in Angles Bs, Cs, Ds, Es, Fs, Gs and S firmly hold the angle in the T-slot, thus preventing any rotation of the profile. In an assembly you can be assured of exact 90 connection. mk Angles are our most popular components. They also offer the possibility of attaching profiles from different series. M8 threads can be cut into the extruded holes on the sides of most angles. (ex. Angle B to attach paneling) 144 mk Systems Profile Technology

Electricity and Grounding If assemblies are electrified (i.e. lighting, electrical outlets, etc.), VDE 0100-410/413 requires that all conductive elements of the workplace must be connected via a common ground, so that the workplace remains safe in the case of an electrical short. As a rule, mk uses a grounding method in all it s standard workstation systems which is applied whether the workstation has electrical components or not. Connecting angles using our PE-Nuts, this grounding is accomplished without the use of additional wires. This means that in the case of later electric additions, the only the electric element itself must be connected with the workplace. Angle connection with PE-Nuts The nut is stamped to include protrusions which break through the anodized surface of the profile. This provides conductivity through the screw and thus ensures grounding of the connection. Grounding Nuts A defined grounding location of an mk workplace for attachment to a common ground.
