The needs in truck parking areas An important estimated lack of : - 2 000 parking spaces on the motorway concessionary companies network (8 000 km) - 2 500 parking spaces on the public network (12 000 km) 3 33
The needs in truck parking areas The actions in progress : - on the public network 1 400 new parking spaces to be created by 2030 studies to be carried out for a better knowledge of private supply - on the concessionaries network Every 5 years, contracts are negotiated with motorway concessionary companies regarding the improvement of exiting network the next contracts will take into account construction of new parking spaces e.g. ASF 1 500 by 2011 4 44
The first secured truck parking sites are a private initiative : along the motorway - A1 - north of Paris (Vémars) - A46 south-east of Lyon (Communay) outside the motorway but close to an exit - Béziers (A9 - exit 36), south of France - Valenciennes (A2 exit 20), north of France 5 55

The french ministry for transports : - has acknowledged the benefits of these new services - has determined pending questions - has set up an experimental policy The contracts signed between ministry and motorway concessionaries for the improvement of their network will include the development of truck parking sites 8 88
