Introduction: The 21st century electric grid is witnessing several disruptive changes. After 100 years of centralized power generation and creation of massive electric grids, the shift is now towards de-centralized generation. For the past five years we are witnessing that increasing share of new generation resources are being added at the low voltage or distribution segment of the grid which is a major transformational change to the electric grid. The traditional boundaries between Generation, Transmission and Distribution are fast disappearing and the grid is evolving as an integrated grid. Smart Grid technologies have emerged as the key enablers for both integration of distributed and variable renewable energy resources as well as electric vehicles. The widespread deployment of smart grids is crucial to achieving a more secure and sustainable energy future as well as addressing current concerns with existing electricity systems, such as ageing infrastructure and increasing peak demands. Smart Grids have also emerged as the critical enabling infrastructure for all flagship programs for Government of India (GoI) such as 24x7 Power for All, 100 Smart Cities, 175 GW of Renewable Energy by 2022, National Mission on Electric Mobility with a target of 6-7 million Electric Vehicles by 2022 etc. The industry and utility heads have raised concerns about the dearth of trained people and knowledge gap among the workforce in the fast-changing technology domains. Learning from experiences of RAPDRP projects that suffered in many states mainly due to lack of skilled manpower is an example. Foreseeing such scenario and to avoid this situation, it is important to create a talent pool in India to implement the new programs successfully on schedule. About ISGF: was established as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative of Government of India for accelerated development of smart grid technologies in the Indian power sector in March 2011. It is registered under Indian Societies Registration Act (Act XXI of 1860). ISGF was set-up to provide a mechanism through which academia, industry, utilities and other stakeholders could participate in the development of Indian smart grid systems and provide relevant inputs to the government s grid modernization program. ISGF work closely with the Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Urban Development and NCIIPC. With 180+ members comprising of ministries, utilities, technology providers, academia and students, ISGF has evolved as a globally reputed think tank in smart grids and smart cities. ISGF is pleased to announce Smart Grid Foundation Course, a 03 Day course scheduled from 07-09 August 2018. This course has been designed to prepare utility engineers, industry executives and fresh graduates to understand the nuances of smart grid technologies, architectures, standards, business models and implementation experiences of past projects Objectives of Smart Grid Foundation Course are: 1. Help the participants to understand the relevance of smart grids, its potential and challenges. 2

2. Enable them to play a critical role in the Smart Grid development in their organisations. Identifying the key barriers to realizing a successful deployment of a robust Smart Grid. 3. Provides the participants a platform for peer-to-peer technology discussions with experienced industry experts. 4. Help in defining the problems that the utilities now experience and showcase what Smart Grid technology and practices can do to help resolve them. 5. Provide learning on various Smart Grid technologies and their real-world applications 6. Support in determining key market drivers for implementing the technologies. 7. Gaining deeper insight into the end-use customer s needs and consumption pattern to better manage load forecasting. 8. Implementation of Time of Use (Real Time Pricing) tariff.
