2014 Fatalities Ø 11 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths due to running red lights in Austin. Ø None were at RLC intersections Ø RLC alone does not prevent or create collisions but they do reduce the likelihood of them occurring while capturing the event on video.

Limitations in Texas Ø Sec. 542.2035. LIMITATION ON MUNICIPALITIES. (a) A municipality may not implement or operate an automated traffic control system with respect to a highway or street under its jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing compliance with posted speed limits. The attorney general shall enforce this subsection.

Ø Sec. 707.006 Criminal Violation (a) A local authority shall operate a photographic traffic control signal enforcement system only for the purpose of detecting a violation or suspected violation of a traffic-control signal. (b) A person commits an offense if the person uses a photographic traffic signal enforcement system to produce a recorded image other than in the manner and for the purpose specified by this chapter. (c) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
