Nissan Ireland Cedar House Park West Business Park Nangor Road, Dublin 12 Product Campaign Bulletin REFERENCE: MODEL: SUBJECT: PIB-NES-DAS-13-001 E12 New Note TB E12 - New Note New Technology Systems 1) DESCRIPTION Some customers may seek clarification for the different driver feedback signals generated by the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) applied to New Note. Different systems are fitted depending upon grade. The scope of ITS covers the following features: - A. TPMS (Type Pressure Monitoring System). B. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system C. Moving Object Detection (MOD) D. Overspeed Warning E. Blind Spot Warning 2) BACKGROUND The purpose of this document is raise awareness of the new technologies on the E12 Note. Please refer to the guide below to help explain the system/s functions and the meanings of warning signals. More information can be found in the owners manual and technical detail can be found in the ESM. 3) VEHICLES AFFECTED From VIN SJN***E12**000001 To VIN SJN***E12**999999
4) SERVICE PROCEDURE [A] TPMS The Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) monitors the pressure of the 4 tyres fitted to the vehicle using electronic sensors (A) on the tyre rim. The location of each TPMS sensor is registered in the TPMS system and the sensors transmit pressure and temperature data to a receiver in the vehicle. After switching on the ignition, the TPMS indicator light (B) will come on and then turn off, indicating that the system is operational. If a tyre is found to be significantly under-inflated, the TPMS indicator light (B) will come on together with the TPMS tyre location indicator light (C), indicating the tyre(s) which is /are found to be under-inflated. If this occurs, the customer should stop vehicle at a safe location to inspect the tyre(s) concerned. The tyre pressure of the concerned tyre(s) should be checked and reinflated as soon as possible to the correct tyre pressure. TPMS messages TPMS indicator lights Possible cause Recommended action Low tyre pressure Genuine NISSAN TPMS sensor is not detected at one or more wheels TPMS radio communication interference between TPMS wheel sensor and TPMS receiver due to external sources TPMS parts malfunction Inflate tyre to the correct pressure Check tyre for presence of genuine NISSAN TPMS sensor Drive away from the area of interference If the problem persists, interrogate system with diagnostic tool.
Tyre Change Process: When changing the tyre on a vehicle it is normal practice to also change the Schrader valve. For vehicle fitted with TPMS it is not necessary to replace the complete TPMS valve, instead just replace the grommet and washer, see image below. When changing wheel Treatment same as black valve Change TPMS grommet same as black valve. And tighten at correct torque(7.5nm) How should the customer react to the warning lamp Warning lamp What should the customer do? Maintenance Check and adjust tyre pressure Go to dealer
TPMS reset TPMS warning threshold can be changed by the following procedure. (When the reference tyre pressure has been changed, when a tyre has been changed etc.) TPMS reset (ignition ON and engine not running) 1. With the ignition ON and the engine not running, press button 1 repeatedly until the TPMS SET indicator light D appears in the display. 2. Push and hold button 1 for at least 3 seconds: the TMPS SET indicator light D will start flashing and SET E will start flashing in the display as well. Both lights will flash 3 times and then turn off. 3. Drive the vehicle for several minutes at speeds between 25 km/h (16mph) and 100 km/h (64mph): the system is now reset and the (new) tyre pressure and temperatures are stored in the system Winter season care point. If a tyre is fitted to the vehicle without a TPMS sensor (for example, when use current Note tyre without TPMS sensor), the TPMS warning lamp will be ON after driving more than 10 min. Also, there is no OFF switch to disable the system because TPMS is a regulation requirement (If car can not inform low tyre pressure situation. TPMS warning lamp should be flash then light ON) This is not malfunction. If this situation should arise the customer should add a TPMS sensor to the rim at their expense.
Care point when tyre inflation Leverage of extension air tool might bend TPMS sensor valve. Please treat carefully Care point when changing a tyre It is possible to damage a TPMS sensor when replacing a tyre. Take off the upper tire bead at the opposite side of the valve. The tool should not be used near the valve (no less than 30 cm). Non-genuine Smart phone battery charger interfere with TPMS data system. Check for use of non-genuine power supplies connected to 12V accessory supply in the event of TPMS reception issues. Recommend genuine charger or USB charger. Smart phone Bbattery charger Noise interferes with the TPMS data
FAQ s for TPMS: Q - How many sensors can be programmed into monitoring system at once? A - Each TPMS sensors have IDs to recognize their own car. 4 TPMS sensor IDs are registered at TPMS controller. (This is to avoid reading pressure data from another vehicle). Q - Is Consult III+ needed to configure sensors into system? A Sensors are activated in the factory when vehicle is built. If new sensor is added to car, Consult 3 and TPMS activation tools are needed to be registered (NI-4023) TPMS sensor ID to TPMS controller. Q Will Spare Wheel sensors be available form After Sales parts? (i.e. for winter tyres) A Yes parts will be available from NMPC. Q Does the position of each wheel need to be programmed into the vehicle system to support the diagnostics? A No. After a short period of driving using the speed of each wheel the system automatically identify the location of the wheels fitted to the vehicle. Q - Is there a special rim requirement in order for sensor to fit properly? (In P12 there was a support in the original rim for the sensor so when placing to after market rims, sensor was not supported and got easily broken) A Yes. Although most after market wheel rims will be compatible with TPMS sensors, we can not guarantee it. Nissan design is in the process of making easy wheel rim check sheet for after market wheels. Q - Will there be several different sensors for different models and rim sizes? A No The sensor is the same size for all wheel sizes. Q Will the TPMS system require a sensor in each wheel i.e. 4 per vehicle? A Yes - Each wheel will be equipped with an individual sensor. Q - Will this system be used on other models i.e. Qashqai, leaf Juke etc? A - Yes due to regulation Nissan adopt TPMS on New Qashqai and minor change Juke and Leaf in the near future. Q - Are the sensors used on new Note the same as currently fitted to GTR A No Note uses a new system which is different from any previous TMPS system used in Europe by Nissan
[B] Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system The LDW system alerts you when you cross either the left or right side of the traveling lane. The LDW system operates at speeds over approximately 70 km/h (43 MPH). When the vehicle crosses either side of the traveling lane without using the direction indicator, a chime will sound and the Lane Departure Warning light on the instrument panel will start flashing (orange). [C] Moving Object Detection (MOD) If the MOD system is activated in the <DRIVING AIDS> menu (in the Nissan connect navigation module). The system will automatically turn on when the vehicle is put into reverse gear. The Around View Monitor screen will turn on and the system will alert when moving objects are detected in the rear view. If a moving object is detected, a warning beep will sound and a yellow border will show around the rear view screen. Note: When in reverse, only the rear camera is selected for MOD, if the vehicle is in Neutral (with parking brake on) all cameras will detect moving objects.
[D] Overspeed Warning The current vehicle speed is compared to the speed indicated on the map. If the vehicle is approaching a section with lower speed indication, the [Overspeed Warning] appears at the lower right corner of the map screen as an icon. Switch to [ON & Beep] to show and warn with a chime, switch to [ON] to show without chime, or switch off. [Overspeed Threshold] When the [Overspeed Warning] is set to [ON & Beep] or [ON] the [Overspeed Threshold] value can be set. When set, the warning is made at an earlier or later stage depending on the distance to the actual section on the map. [Speed warning for curves] If the vehicle is approaching a curve with lower speed indication, the [Speed warning for curves] appears at the lower right corner of the screen as an icon (yellow, triangular). [E] Blind Spot Warning The Blind Spot Warning (BSW) system helps alert the driver of other vehicles in adjacent lanes when changing lanes. When the rear view monitor camera unit identifies a vehicle in the detection zone the Blind Spot Indicator lamp (located on the outside mirror) illuminates. If the turn signal is then activated the system chimes and the BSW indicator lamp flashes. BSW indicator lamp location BSW indicator lamp
