Here s how easy it is to select the right motor starter protector for your motor Determining the right motor starter protector remains as simple as ever because we have comprehensively adapted our devices. As usual, the power rating and rated current of the motor are the crucial selection criteria. Whether for use with IE1, IE2, IE3 or IE4 motors: the overlapping setting ranges of the overload release make it easy to find the most appropriate SIRIUS motor starter protector in every case. Compared to motors of lower efficiency classes, IE3 and IE4 motors have significantly higher inrush currents. For this reason, undesired activation of the short-circuit detection of the motor starter protector may occur when switching on. Such early tripping can happen whenever the rated current of the motor is in the top range of the motor starter protector s setting scale. Thanks to the overlapping setting ranges of SIRIUS motor starter protectors, it is always possible to find a motor starter protector for which the rated current of the motor is in the lower range of the setting scale. This helps to reliably prevent premature tripping. If you protect your application with an overload relay, this relay can also be used with IE3 and IE4 motors without any further adaptation. With the new 3VA molded case circuit breakers, we offer the right solution for protecting IE3 and IE4 motors for higher power ratings too. With SIRIUS contactors, you have the inrush under control! SIRIUS contactors have been optimized for operation with the higher starting and inrush current of IE3/IE4 motors. Up to a power rating of 45 kw (i.e. sizes S00, S0, S2 and S3), you can therefore select the standard motor contactors in the familiar way quite simply according to the motor power. In the Configuration Manual for Controls with IE3/IE4 Motors, we have included appropriate selection tables so that selection will always be as easy as possible for you. Since the inrush current is extremely high in the upper performance range in IE3/IE4 motors, we recommend that you take account of the starting current ratio of the motor as well as the power when selecting the ideal SIRIUS contactor for motors with ratings of 55 kw and higher. Up to a starting current ratio factor of 8.5, you can use your contactors in the familiar way; at a higher starting current ratio, we recommend specific versions or over-dimensioning.
