In late 2015, Pep Boys found itself the target of a bidding war between Japanese tire company Bridgestone and activist investment firm Icahn Enterprises. After originally accepting an $835 million offer from Bridgestone, the auto parts retailer eventually agreed to a $1 billion-plus purchase by Icahn (which completed in February 2016).
