Safety Information Please take these safety precautions into consideration under the folowing conditions : 1. Servicing the vehicle When servicing your automobile (i.e. changing the oil, washing your car), the NUSTART system should be in Valet Mode. There is a safety shutdown switch under the hood that deactivates the remote starter function if the hood is open. However, if the switch has been damaged or the switch has been installed improperl y, the vehicle may start when the button is pressed for 2 seconds, even if the hood is open. 2. Loaning your vehicle to others Whenever you loan your vehicle to an individual who is not famili ar with NUSTAR T you may want to put the vehicle in Valet mode. This wil prevent the borrower from accidentally activating the NUSTART auto-security system. 3. For manual transmission vehicles If the NUSTART Nu1000R is installed in a manua l transmission vehicle, extra precautions are required because the NUSTART does not monitor the gear shifter : I m p o r t a n t! Under normal circumstances, Reservation Mode is cancelled when a door or hatchback opens. Pl ease verify that the opening of any door or hatchback cance l s Reservati on Mode. I f any of the doors or hatchback are not monitored by N USTART because of improper i nstallation or a faulty dome li ght switch, do not use the NUSTART and take your vehicle immediately to the deal er for repair. Do not set Reservation Mode if the window(s) are open or if there is anyone inside the vehicl e, this includes animals. The horn/siren will be mute only when arming or disarming your vehicle. When the alarm is armed, the starter kill function (an optional feature provided by your installer) is activated. This feature disengages the starter mechanism on your vehicle and prevents it from starting, even with a key. Note : If you lose your remote after you have armed the vehicle, use your key to open the door. The siren will go off. Turn the ignition on then off, 5 times with your key to shut down the alarm and put the system into valet mode. You can cancel the valet mode with a remote later on. See : Valet mode, on page 10. This is to give a 30 second warning to the hijacker, then to disconnect the ignition to stop the vehicle. Valet Mode While the vehicle is in valet mode, the only features that will function will be the keyless entry and optional auxiliary functions. In order to enter Valet mode, press the buttons sim ultaneously for a 1/2 second. In this m ode, if the emergency brake has been engaged, the engine will conti nue to r un after the key has been taken out of the ignition.
