Further advantages of a Demag Air Balancer are: Ergonomic design High cycling capability Mechanical whip lash protection Enclosed controls Up/down speed control Low hand force required to move load Simple adjustment Low operating cost Reliable operation Numerous control variations Single load zero gravity Dual load zero gravity Up/down pendant Hand Force Control The most advanced air balancer system today The Demag Air Balancer is the most advanced cable balancer system available. You can effortlessly move your loads into an exact position, even without a pendant control. Better ergonomics With the help of a Demag Air Balancer, you can ergonomically handle any load. This system reduces the risk of back strains, and muscle and bone injuries, thus making your operations a great deal easier and safer. This leads to higher productivity and better employee motivation. A perfect solution Environmental contamination is impossible, since the Demag Air Balancer works quietly and completely oil free. A lifetime of efficient operation is insured through excellent design and low air consumption. Hand Force Control 38465-1 2
Safety first Drive The Demag Air Balancer is equipped with a cable drum which is driven by compressed air. To lift a load, air is fed into the cylinder which in turn sets the piston in motion. The moving piston causes the cable drum to rotate via the ball screw arrangement the Balancer then lifts its load. To lower the load, you simply reduce the air pressure and the process is reversed. By regulating the air flow, a number of functions can be performed. These range from simple up/down operations to seemingly weightless handling of loads (zero-g control). Controls space and mounting plate Suspension The Suspension Kit (sold separately) consists of two KBK Trolleys and a Load Bar. Universal Load Bars are also available so that the Balancer can be suspended from the trolleys of other enclosed track manufacturers. Cover The sturdy metal cover protects both the balancer and controls from environmental damage. Controls Space and Mounting Plate The enclosed control space provides ample room for all available controls, while keeping them safe from environmental contaminates. Cover Mechanical Speed Limiter Should the attached end effector lose its load, or in case of a cable failure, the Mechanical Speed Limiter will stop any high speed upward movement that is unsafe for the operator. This feature is standard equipment on all Balancers. Cable Guide Due to a special cable guide, the cable always enters the Demag Air Balancer at the same spot. The cable will not travel sideways during a lift operation. Thus true vertical lift is provided as a standard feature. Real world performance The Demag Air Balancer can operate at speeds up to 400 ft/min (~60 m/min), with a duty factor of 100%. Depending on what type of Balancer (DBS 55 or DBS 110) the safe workload ranges from 0 125 lbs or 0 250 lbs. Cable Drum Cylinder 38510 Cable guide Speed limiter Ball Screw 3
Up/down control. Fast and precise with unparalleled safety Up/Down control in DSK handle The standard control of the Demag Air Balancer is the ergonomically designed DSK control pendant. Depending on how much you press the control buttons, the patented valve blocks control the lifting or lowering speed with unsurpassed sensitivity and infinite adjustability. The big advantage over a chain hoist is that once the operator positions the load using the pendent, he can perform final positioning by simply moving the load by hand. The cushion of air in the balancer can be compressed, allowing load to be moved approximately 4" up or down. Speed adjustment is possible by opening the DSK protective cover and accessing the screws on the valve block. This makes adjustment easy yet tamper proof. Load hook The Up/Down Balancer comes standard with a Bullard safety lock hook. Pneumatic Speed Limiter The Speed Limiter is standard equipment in the Up/Down Balancer. Its patented valve technology insures that the load hook moves at a speed which is always safe for the operator. The maximum speed is limited under the full load range of the balancer, even if there is nothing suspended from the hook. Unlike the speed limiters of other balancers the Pneumatic Speed Limiter will operate under constant usage, without requiring service, for the lifetime of the Balancer. 38465-5 38504 Single and Dual Balance, Zero Gravity Controls just the right thing for a constant load In case you lift the same thing all the time, a Demag Air Balancer with Single Balance Control provides fast and safe support. It will keep a constantly attached load, like a weld gun or a nut runner, in perfect balance. The seemingly weightless load is easily handled and brought into exact position. for two alternating loads The Dual Balance Control is perfect for operations which require the lifting and placing of parts of a constant weight. The first load to be balanced is the weight of a custom end effector (grabbing device). The second load, is the weight of that end effector, plus the part to be lifted. The balancer utilizes a signal from the end effector to switch between these two balancing modes. 38527-2 4
Hand Force Control safely handles any load Lifting with confidence The most comfortable control available for the Demag Air Balancer is the Hand Force Control. It provides unsurpassed advantages when handling, guiding or positioning any load. Automatically adjusts to any load without operator adjustments Possible to handle the load with both hands Minimum resistance to moving The load follows you up/down Reliable and safe Fast or slow Sensitive and precise Built in standard safety features With intuitive control, sensing what the operator needs to accomplish Always where you left it One of the remarkable advantages of the Hand Force Control is, once a load is left in balance, it will remain at its position. You can even exchange the load or change its weight (by filling, draining, unloading or loading) and the load stays in its initial position! Float control feature In case you need to handle your load directly, the Hand Force Control can be switched to float mode. You can touch your load with both hands while guiding it in to place and making final adjustments with great precision. This is especially useful when handling raw materials, unfinished goods, or during assembly processes with critical joining operations. Additional safety features Two additional safety features provide maximum safety during your operation: A Safety Release Interlock and Safety Lift Interlock. The Safety Release Interlock will keep the loads locked in the end effector until they safely rest on solid ground. In reverse the Safety Lift Interlock will suspend any further operation until the load is safely held in the end effector. 38501-1 Standard or individual control settings Your Demag Air Balancer is of course immediately fully operational. But if desired, a small hand held terminal will allow you to specifically adjust the control settings and functions. Guided by a simple menu, you can access the Balancer configuration and perform the desired changes online. You can immediately test the changes and make modifications if necessary. Quick disconnect The Hand Force Control handle comes with a Demag quick connect interface. Standard load attachments are easily exchanged. The interface also allows the connection of special end effectors. 38465-2 38298 5
