Refinery Specialties 3 Evolution in a changing world Our highly experienced Refinery Specialties Innospec is one of the leading suppliers of specialty chemicals in the petroleum additives market and the largest supplier of heavy fuel oil treatments in the world. Innospec s rapidly expanding Fuel Specialties business comprises of a number of dedicated teams. The Refinery Specialties team supplies refinery fuel additives and provides advice to refineries all over the world. We also have teams serving the needs of the marine, power, heating, performance specialties and fuel borne catalysts markets. team is part of our international Fuel Specialties business. This dedicated team works closely with refiners to ensure their products meet specification cost-effectively by supplying innovative fuel additives as well as sitespecific services. The use of additives is especially important in today s global refinery market. Refineries have to process crude oil from many different sources and produce fuels that vary considerably depending on geographic location. In an industry subjected to constant change, whether from shifts in the world economy or new legislation, we are continually evolving and adapting our organisation to make sure we can deliver the products and services our customers require. With our extensive resources and knowledge of the refinery business, our Refinery Specialties team is able to work at the cutting edge of additive technology. As part of Innospec, we can draw on the global reach and financial resources that few of our competitors can match. This means we can supply a wide customer base with innovative solutions to their fuel problems on both a local and international scale. Our products are in use at refineries all over the world. We currently supply additives to over 200 refineries in more than 65 countries. Innospec is a dynamic global specialty chemicals company. Our Fuel Specialties business specialises in manufacturing and supplying additives to improve fuel efficiency, boost engine performance and reduce harmful emissions. Our company has evolved out of the tetra ethyl lead (TEL) business to become the champion of innovative new fuel treatment technologies in a rapidly changing market. We are the only business solely focused on fuel and fuel additive technology.

4 Refinery Specialties Our approach is to work with refineries to create fuels that can make the most of modern engine technology while responding to the needs of the environment. So when environmental pressures to reduce toxic sulphur emissions from vehicle exhausts prompted the production of low sulphur and ultra low sulphur diesel fuels, we quickly identified the problem of reduced fuel lubricity. The result was a new range of lubricity improvers designed to protect vehicle fuel pumps from premature wear.

Refinery Specialties 5 Finding the right product Innospec has many years experience in developing, manufacturing and marketing refinery fuel additives for a wide range of applications. Our product range includes: Antioxidants Stabilizers Dispersants Conductivity Improvers Stadis Cetane Improvers Lubricity Improvers Cold Flow Improvers Corrosion Inhibitors Metal Deactivators Distillate Fuel Oil Additives Heavy Fuel Oil Additives Octane Improver PLUTOcen G Dyes and Markers Process Additives The result is a portfolio of products that are designed to overcome many of the problems faced by refineries in the day-to-day processing and handling of fuel. Our product range is continually evolving as we develop more effective and innovative solutions to our customers needs. Present us with a new challenge, and you can be sure we will find an appropriate solution. We can draw on our past experience of similar problems as well as our extensive technical resources to create additives that work effectively. Fuel stability is essential. That s why our range of antioxidants, fuel stabilizers, dispersants and metal deactivators are designed to meet the needs of todays fuels. Safety must always be the top priority in the pumping and handling of fuels. Our Stadis conductivity improvers prevent the build up of electrostatic charge, minimising the risk of fire and explosion. Stadis 450 is renowned worldwide and is the only static dissipator additive internationally approved for use in aviation fuels. Our products also provide refiners with the flexibility to meet ever-changing fuel specifications. By using Innospec cetane number improvers, refiners can produce diesel fuels that deliver better engine performance and lower levels of regulated exhaust emissions. Many of our additives have been developed in response to changing market conditions. Our biodegradable low toxicity octane improver PLUTOcen G is a good example of an innovative and environmentally friendly solution for octane deficient fuels. It gives refiners the option to regain octane while ensuring the fuel remains compatible with todays increasingly demanding engines and exhaust emission systems. Similarly, as environmental, regulatory and marketing pressures continue to drive down the sulphur content of diesel fuels, we have developed the widest range of lubricity improvers in the market to meet all possible requirements from our customers. Cold flow improvers also form an essential part of our diesel fuel additives portfolio. Through laboratory evaluation and precise matching of product components to fuel type, these products optimise the low temperature performance of fuels as costeffectively as possible. Wherever fuel is stored or distributed, there is a risk of corrosion caused by the traces of water picked up by the fuel during processing and storage. We market a range of corrosion inhibitors to combat such problems in pipelines, tankfarms and terminals. We supply a wide variety of dyes and markers to give market differentiation, supplier identification or as fiscal markers for tax purposes. Whatever the requirement, we work closely with our customers to design and formulate dyes that meet their specific requirements.

Refinery Specialties 6 Adding value with innovation and support As part of Innospec, our Refinery Specialties customers benefit from a fully integrated supply chain and an international network of sales offices. We can offer unrivalled support, delivering products anywhere in the world to our customers specifications. Innospec s Fuel Specialties business is registered to supply and sell petroleum additives. Care of the environment is important to Innospec. That s why we were one of the first signatories to Responsible Care, the worldwide programme promoting continuous improvements in standards of health, safety and environmental performance. We also set up Innospec Environmental - a company that can provide a complete decommissioning and remediation package that embraces both TEL and other hazardous materials. We work closely with the refiner to help him meet a particular operational objective or fuel specification. Whether it is developing new products or following specific delivery instructions, you can rely on Innospec to get it right and add value every step of the way. Our dedicated team of technicians, engineers and product managers provide advice and guidance across the complete refinery product range. What is more, we have the people and the resources to develop new and highly complex specialty chemicals. Our technical personnel are all highly skilled. They understand the chemistry that defines additive performance and they are able to relate this knowledge to the needs of our customers. State-of-the-art scientific techniques, such as computer modelling and test simulation, are used to optimise our additive design. On-site we can provide a complete technical support service and mobile laboratory. When fuel specifications are changed or a new additive is used for the first time, we offer on-site monitoring and assessment of the production streams to ensure that product quality is maintained. To support the use of our products around the world, we also provide a comprehensive range of engineering services. These include the design, construction, delivery and commissioning of new blending plant and dosing equipment and guidance on the safety and maintenance of these units. We can offer engineering advice and assistance with offloading, storage and blending of all our fuel additives. Training in product handling is also available, if required. Our Refinery Engineering Services team has worked with over 200 refineries across the world. Their experience, knowledge and technical abilities are second to none. So from the development of new fuel additive technologies through to the provision of site-specific services, our Refinery Specialties team is truly focused on the needs of todays global refinery market. By continually pushing the boundaries of technology, service and support, Innospec is able to respond to our customers ever changing needs in a rapidly changing market.

Refinery Specialties 7 Our extensive laboratories in Ellesmere Port, UK and our new testing facility in Millbrook, UK are used to test fuel additives for performance and cost-effectiveness. We can optimise our formulations in line with customer requirements and specifications.
