Diagnostics Mower Decks Troubleshooting Chart Symptom: Mower blades don t rotate (1) Is the PTO clutch engaged? No - Engage. (2) Is the primary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (3) Is the secondary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (4) Is the primary belt Quick-Release belt tensioning handle locked in place? No - Lock in place. (5) Is the secondary drive belt tensioning spring weak or unhooked. Yes - or reattach spring. Symptom: Mower deck vibrates (1) Are blades out of balance? Yes - Balance blades. (2) Are blades bent? Yes - blades. (3) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). Symptom: Deck cuts unevenly or with striping (1) Are blades bent? Yes - blades. (2) Is blade level side-to-side out of adjustment. Yes - Level mower deck side-to-side. Symptom: Deck cuts unevenly or with striping (3) Is blade level front-to-back out of adjustment. Yes - mower deck front-to-back. (4) Are blades dull? Yes - Sharpen or replace blades. (5) Are gage wheels adjusted correctly? No - wheels. (6) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). Symptom: Belt Slips (1) Is the primary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (2) Is the secondary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (3) Is the primary belt Quick-Release belt tensioning handle locked in place? (3) Does sheave angle match belt angle? No - Check jack sheave and PTO sheave. (4) Is nut at correct torque? No - Tighten System: Primary belt tension spring and rod (1) Is primary belt tension spring or rod damaged, worn or weak? Yes - spring or rod. (2) Is belt tensioning handle in tension position? System: Spindle sheave (1) Is spindle sheave tight on spindle with key in place? No - Tighten nut and install key as needed. (2) Is spindle sheave damaged, bent or not running straight? Yes - Repair, or replace as needed. (3) Is belt on sheave? (4) Does Sheave angle matches belt angle? No - sheave. System: Blade (1) Is blade bent, worn or damaged? Yes - blade.
