Diagnostics Mower Decks Troubleshooting Chart Symptom: Mower blades don t rotate (1) Is the PTO clutch engaged? No - Engage. (2) Is the primary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (3) Is the secondary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (4) Is the primary belt Quick-Release belt tensioning handle locked in place? No - Lock in place. (5) Is the secondary drive belt tensioning spring weak or unhooked. Yes - or reattach spring. Symptom: Mower deck vibrates (1) Are blades out of balance? Yes - Balance blades. (2) Are blades bent? Yes - blades. (3) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). Symptom: Deck cuts unevenly or with striping (1) Are blades bent? Yes - blades. (2) Is blade level side-to-side out of adjustment. Yes - Level mower deck side-to-side. Symptom: Deck cuts unevenly or with striping (3) Is blade level front-to-back out of adjustment. Yes - mower deck front-to-back. (4) Are blades dull? Yes - Sharpen or replace blades. (5) Are gage wheels adjusted correctly? No - wheels. (6) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). Symptom: Belt Slips (1) Is the primary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (2) Is the secondary drive belt broken, worn, frayed, (3) Is the primary belt Quick-Release belt tensioning handle locked in place? No - Lock handle in place. (4) Is the secondary drive belt tensioning spring weak or unhooked? Yes - or reattach spring. (5) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). (4) Is the secondary drive belt tensioning spring weak or unhooked? Yes - or reattach spring. (5) Are drive sheaves damaged? Yes - drive sheave(s). Mower Drive Checks Machine parked on a level surface.. Parking brake locked. Key switch in off position. System: PTO clutch and drive sheave (1) Is PTO clutch and drive shave tight on crankshaft? (Key not damaged or missing?) No - Tighten cap screw. ( key, if necessary.) (2) Is air gap properly adjusted? No - Repair and adjust as needed. (3) Is belt on sheave? (4) Is sheave binding, damaged or worn? Yes - sheave. (5) Does sheave angle match belt angle? No - Check jack sheave and PTO sheave. System: Primary drive belt. (1) Is primary drive belt damaged, worn, broken or turned over? Yes -. System: Jack sheave (1) Is belt on sheave? (2) Is sheave binding, damaged or worn? Yes - sheave and bearing. (3) Does sheave angle match belt angle? No - Check jack sheave and PTO sheave. (4) Is nut at correct torque? No - Tighten System: Primary belt tension spring and rod (1) Is primary belt tension spring or rod damaged, worn or weak? Yes - spring or rod. (2) Is belt tensioning handle in tension position? No - Move to tension position. System: Jack sheave arm (1) Is jack sheave arm binding, damaged or worn? Yes - jack sheave arm. System: Secondary drive belt (1) Is secondary drive belt damaged, worn, broken or turned over? System: Secondary drive belt tensioning spring (1) Is secondary drive belt tensioning spring damaged, worn or weak? Yes - spring. Attachments Diagnostics - 352

(3) Is pivot arm bent, locating idler parallel to belt? Yes - pivot arm. System: Fixed idler (1) Is idler binding, damaged or worn? Yes - idler. (2) Is belt in place? System: Spindle sheave (1) Is spindle sheave tight on spindle with key in place? No - Tighten nut and install key as needed. (2) Is spindle sheave damaged, bent or not running straight? Yes - Repair, or replace as needed. (3) Is belt on sheave? (4) Does Sheave angle matches belt angle? No - sheave. System: Blade (1) Is blade bent, worn or damaged? Yes - blade. (2) Is blade sharp and balanced? No - Sharpen and balance. (3) Is blade level side to side? No -. (4) Is blade correctly adjusted front to back? No -. System: Mower deck lift linkage (1) Is mower deck lift linkage mounting hardware tight, not worn? Yes - Tighten or replace as needed. System: Engine (1) Is engine is running at correct rpm? No - engine fast idle and governor. No - Check engine adjustments and condition. No - Inform operator that engine should be running at fast idle when mowing. System: Spindle and housing (1) Have bearings failed? Yes - as needed. (2) Blade tight on spindle. No - Tighten hardware. Attachments Diagnostics - 353
